      Beautiful, comfortable, and well-maintained

Left on 04/08/2013 for a stay in March 2013

We just returned from a wonderful week at Villa Capiz. The best part of the house is the fabulous view and the large decks facing the view. Really great outdoor seating arrangement. The bedroom set-up was perfect for my family. My younger daughters shared one master suite and my teenager stayed in the smaller upstairs bedroom. Although it seemed unusual to go upstairs/downstairs via an outside staircase, it added to the excitement of staying in a tropical location. Everything was very clean and the house is very well-maintained. Rugs and bedding were fresh. Even the grill was clean! The indoor and outdoor lighting were very good which is important because it gets dark fairly early. Only the bedrooms have a/C which was plenty for us, as the whole house is screened. We had some problems with the programming on the a/C units (which are apparently new) and Peter, the property manager, was very responsive. I appreciated that the kitchen was stocked with a few basics- seasonings, coffee filters, oil, condiments, etc. The location of the villa is also very convenient to Cruz Bay, grocery stores, etc but in a nice private setting.

      Relaxing

Left on 09/05/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Villa Capiz was amazing. My husband & I went with his brother, sister and her boyfriend for a week in august. Each couple had their own bedroom & bathroom. It was nice having the privacy. The villa is very clean, spacious and comfortable. The outside area is as big as the inside. In fact, we spent all our time outside enjoying the view, breeze and pool. We had a great time there and cannot say enough good things about it. All of us said we will definitely go back. Also, Deb & Nancy were great to work with.

      Perfect in every way

Left on 02/21/2012 for a stay in January 2012

My wife and I stayed here for almost a week in late January 2012. Debbie (the villa owner) was a joy to correspond with. She made sure we had everything planned for our trip.

When we got off the ferry we were met by Nanci (the property manager). She was fantastic. She drove us to pick up our jeep, and then we followed her to the villa where she gave us a map, talked about the island, showed us the villa (how to lock up, set the alarm, open the gate...etc) and stayed around to answer any questions or to give recommendations.

I can't express how awesome our stay was. St. John is the perfect island, and Villa Capiz is a great home base. The view is unbelievable. You have complete privacy, and at night you'll see more stars than you thought possible.

      Exceeded Expectations

Left on 01/24/2012 for a stay in December 2011

We decided to take our parents and two children ages 6 and 4 to St. John and were late booking our villa but we found Villa Capiz was still available and it seemed to have all we’d need. We were debating between this and one down closer to the water. The last time we stayed at Carnival Beach House in Klein Bay and really enjoyed being close to the water. We chose to be higher and I think we made the right choice.

View: This view is unbelievable, every morning watching the sun light up the bay below to each night watching the most magnificent sunsets. Others mentioned they didn’t want to leave…now I wouldn’t quite say that because the beaches and snorkeling is so good but you really can’t beat coming back to such a great villa and view.

Setup: As previously mentioned, there are 2 king suites downstairs connected, each with their own bathroom. Rooms were spacious and comfortable and were perfect for us with our kids as we were connected to their room. Rooms downstairs had aC and there was a radio that you could connect an Ipod to (we didn’t use). Note to owner – it would be great if you add a screen door to the showers downstairs. Upstairs had a nice bedroom which my parents used and worked great because it was like they had their own private villa. The kitchen is upstairs and there are wooden sliding doors you can open to screened doors so when you are in the upstairs great room/kitchen you have the most unbelievable panorama. The upstairs deck has a table, hot tub and grill. We ate breakfast every morning at the table outside and enjoyed the bananquits coming to enjoy the sugar water we left out and sugar we left on a plate. My parents are major birders and they really enjoyed the birds here, hummingbirds, banaquits, among many others.

Pool/Spa: In December, the pool was too cool for me, my son enjoyed it…but I enjoyed the hot tub after a day at the beach with my daughter. The pool is gorgeous and I would love to be here in the summer when I could enjoy it more…

Dinner: We ate in every night except one night when we had to go back to asolare. The view at asolare is great but it doesn’t hold a candle to the view at villa capiz…I brought a soft sided cooler with steaks, chicken and other food. They have a great grill we used nearly every night. I would recommend skipping the town and messing with the traffic and cooking at the villa, this way you can enjoy each sunset, especially if you have a great cook!

Evenings: after the beach, after the delicious dinner, after the sunset, after watching St. Thomas light up, after putting the kids down to sleep…we would turn our chairs around and look up into the sky and enjoy the stars. The stars were so great…unbelievably, we only saw 2 or 3 shooting stars. I almost don’t believe this to be true but it is. Normally I would expect to see that many a night if trying. The star gazing is just incredible.

Kitchen: had all we needed, lots of pots and pans, silverware, plates, glasses, cutting boards…everything you’ll need….plus the view is worth another mention.

Misc: the grounds are immaculate, the décor of villa is great, Nancy the caretaker was helpful and attentive when we called. Gift Hill is steep, I got used to driving on the left side rather quickly, I drove 100% of the time. One other note...downstairs is not connected to upstairs via indoor, you must go outside and take stairs on either side to go up and down...this was not an issue with us at all, wasn't sure about this setup going in. Also, the pool furniture is very comfortable...

Shoot me a note if you have any questions or would maybe like to see my extended album of our trip. I have a a trip review on another site that is more focused on the beaches and our trip than this villa review if interested.

      Great Spot

Left on 01/17/2012 for a stay in December 2011

The view was spectacular and the villa was very well furnished and very comfortable. We (Senior Citizens) went with our son and family. We took the queen bedroom upstairs which was in the main living area/hot tub and his family had two large bedrooms downstairs which was on the lovely pool area. It was a perfect setup for what we needed. But the view was what we really enjoyed -- morning sun on Great Cruz Bay, evening sunsets across the water and stars after dark were wonderful. Property manager met us at the ferry dropoff to show us the way to the home and walk us through the home. The lights on the island went off one evening and she called with instructions where to find additional lanterns, etc. Her boyfriend got us out of a jam one day when our keys were locked in the car -- he came and was able to get in the car. So, the property manager was very helpful during our stay.

Gorgeous views - cozy home with charm

Left on 01/07/2012 for a stay in December 2011

My wife, ~2 year old daughter, and my parents had the pleasure to stay at Villa Capiz in early December, 2011. Deborah was extremely helpful in our planning and provided great travel tips in and around St. John. It was our first time for all of us and we couldn't have asked for a better experience/location. From the moment we got off the dock, as promised, the property manager (Nancy) met us on time that at the dock and promptly took us to a Jeep Rental and showed us how to get to the home and around the island. It was especially comforting because our plane arrived earlier than my parents and it did add some initial stress to join together. Not too mention, getting around the narrow roads and up the mountain to the Villa was concerning for me. Did I mention that you drive on the left hand side of the road? :) I quickly felt out of my element! The stress quickly eased as soon as we arrived at the home and opened up the beautiful wood doors overlooking the Cruz Bay, The view is Magnificent and for my family, worth the trip in the first glance out the deck. Fortunately, we woke up to that same view every day. Simply awesome!

First and foremost, the property I felt was located just right. The Villa was a short drive from Cruz Bay to easy enjoy some of the great restaurants, or a short drive (10 minutes or so) to most of the major beaches on the west side of the island. Plus it is far enough away and secluded that you are at peace with the sounds of birds and nature.

The Villa Capiz itself was everything we could have asked for. The kitchen was tastefully done with every utensil that you need. Just when you think you forgot something, you open up a cupboard and there it was! Obviously, very well thought out. All the furniture, wood trim, tile and rooms were very charming in the Caribbean style. Most importantly, very clean and well maintained. They offered Internet access/WiFi, TV, DVD, CD player for surround sound environment, although we didn't really attempt to use them as we felt better to unplug and primarily read books (some were provided on site), cooked up some nice meals (local market 5 minute drive), and enjoyed some of the local spirits to soak in the setting. In addition, there was a great hot tub and pool to enjoy. The bedrooms had nice, comfortable beds to sleep at night. The bathrooms were near every bedroom as well. It took us a day or two to locate it, but we found the washer/dryer on the lower level which was convenient. They also provided lawn chairs to take to the beach and a few towels.

In short, I would definitely recommend the Villa Capiz to other travelers. There was not one thing that we didn't have at our disposal. I've travelled to other parts of the world in other vacation rentals, and this experience blew all of those away. I researched many places in St John and for the size and space, this one not only was "As advertised", but went above and beyond our expectations in every way. It easily could take 6 comfortably.

The only small suggestion that would have been a little more convenient would be to provide a credit card option instead of Cashiers/Personal checks, but that is really a small thing. They were very prompt in every question we had.

If you have a family of 6 or less, look no further than the Villa Capiz. We had a terrific vacation and look forward to our return trip to Villa Capiz/St John! Kudos Deborah!

      What a Place!

Left on 10/10/2011 for a stay in October 2011

We spent our 25th anniversary at Villa Capiz and it was outstanding! A very private, peaceful location with views of the sun setting behind St. Thomas in the distance (not really too far away)! Amenities are wonderful including the ability to play music from your Ipad while in the pool or jacuzzi, or just relaxing on one of the two decks.
The property manager met us at the ferry, took us to Courtesy Jeep Rental and led us up to the house. Before long we were in the pool, relaxing and enjoying the gorgeous views!
We honeymooned in Hawaii, but felt that this trip was better in so many ways. St. John is a wonderful place with the most gorgeous beaches my wife and I have ever visited. I strongly recommend Villa Capiz for anyone considering a trip to St. John.
*One word of warning to those not familiar with "no-see-ums" the tiny little mosquito like insects that abound during sunrise and sunset: Bring bug spray! These insects are throughout the islands.

Left on 05/12/2011 for a stay in February 2011

Villa Capiz far exceeded our expectations. The setting, gardens, pool, decor & service were all perfect for our group.
The outside and inside blend so beautifully. We never took off our bathing suits! The house gave us such a feeling of relaxation. We cooked more than we had expected because we did not even want to leave. The big dining table with marvelous view are tough to match. Each bedroom had great privacy and comfort, while the group spaces were inviting and spacious. All in all we are already planning our next reunion on this beautiful island and plan to book Villa Capiz.
We do not think we could do any better.

      Exceeded our expectations

Left on 04/29/2011 for a stay in July 2010

We went to Villa Capiz for our anniversery, and a second honeymoon of sorts. We camped in St. John when we were first married, but we are older, and that was great for then, but this was at home, feel regal superb. It was hah at the end of July, but the combination the incredible pool, and the fairly constant breezes made it quite comfortable. Ac in the bedrooms was nice, of course.

We felt as if the owners put a lot of thought and love into the villa. They had great artwork, sculptures in the garden , and homey touches...like the carpets. The binoculars were nice, too, for bird, people and sea watching.

Since it was a second honeymoon of sorts, the, the peace and quite privacy, and the hot tube made it very romantic. Just what Dr. Ruth ordered.

There are many more and better restaurants in town than our first St. John trip, and it is a 10 minute zip into town to get there. There are so many fabulous beaches, and every one has something diffrent to offer. We had one main problem, and I hope to address that the next time we are back. Our vacation was too short. Next time, we'll bring the family. Can't wait.

      What a view!

Left on 04/28/2011 for a stay in January 2011

My wife and I rented this villa, and took our daughter, son in law, and their two high school girls. It was our first time visiting St. John, and I think we picked the perfect place! We woke to a spectacular view every morning, and ended most days with a cocktail on the deck while the sunset entertained us. While we made it to various beaches (Vai's was our favorite!), we always rushed back to the comforts of our rental, the pool and patio just too perfect.
Our only negative was the hot tub was broken when we arrived. We called the property manager, and someone was there to fix it next day. Great response time!
If and when we return to St. John, Villa Capiz will be our home away from home!

Left on 04/24/2011 for a stay in March 2011

We arrived in the late afternoon, unpacked and sat on the porch overlooking St Thomas.
As the sun set, the lights went on all over St Thomas. It was a spectacular surreal painting unfolding before our eyes. The house is designed so that every room looks out to the ocean. Even the kitchen and dining areas flow out to the porch. We liked the local touches in the furnishings. Very comfy Beds, too. Good location, at the top of the hill up from the town. The pool is everything that we saw in the photos and more. Can't wait to get back next year.

      Villa Capiz-An awesome Vacation Rental

Left on 04/23/2011 for a stay in April 2011

My wife and I just returned from our vacation in St. John in the U.S. Virgin
Islands. We had looked at multiple rental villas for months on line and were
wanting to find a villa with privacy and a lot of the features that you would normally
have to share at a resort. After looking for weeks, we saw Villa Capiz with its website
at www.villacapiz .com This is complete with a video of the private pool with fountain, the
upper deck Hot Tub with a view for miles of the many islands surrounding St. Thomas,
and the awesome blue crystal clear waters of the Carribbean far below. The House is
romantically secluded, surrounded by flowers, greenery and palm Trees high atop of
gift Hill, which is only about 10 minutes from the downtown restaurants, shops & beach
bars near the ferry dock in downtown St.John. The roads leading up to the house are
newly paved and are in great shape. It still is best to rent one of the many little compact 4-wheel drive cars or jeeps that are readily available to have for getting to the many awesome beaches on St .John.
Villa Capiz had every possible feature to relax and hang out at home for the day if you
just want to be lazy, with Outdoor Speakers on the lower Patio next to the pool with fountain, and on the upper deck as well for evening soaking with tunes right above the
hot tub. The stereos on both levels have easy connection for your MP3 player so you can
enjoy your own Music. A radio station that is upbeat is on 104.1 "The Buzz." The Villa is
complete with outdoor lounge chairs around the pool for sunning or a Gas Grill on the
upper deck for a barbecue and a covered area w/ table and chairs for outdoor meals
with seating for 6. This villa has it all. The lighting at night is everywhere you look & offers
dimmers to lower the lighting for night time ambiance. The house haslarge sliding patio doors with screens on both levels, so you always have a complete views of the islands.
The main floor kitchen and great room have every convenieince needed for couples or
larger families with teens including satellite T.V . This is like home away from home
except without work, but beautiful water, sun and the best beaches in the world!! This
is a rental villa not to be missed. Check it out!!
