Additional Location Information
St Kilda, with a population of 16,122, is located 6km south from Melbourne's CBD. St Kilda was named after a ship, the ‘Lady of St Kilda’, which moored at the main beach for much of 1841. During the Edwardian and Victorian eras, St Kilda became a favoured suburb of Melbourne's elite, and many palatial mansions were constructed along its hills and waterfront. Post WWII, St Kilda became Melbourne's red-light district. In recent years, St Kilda has experienced gentrification. Now St Kilda is one of Melbourne’s premier and most expensive suburbs. St Kilda is home to many of Melbourne's famous visitor attractions including Luna Park, the Esplanade Hotel, Acland Street and Fitzroy Street. It is home to St Kilda Beach, Melbourne's most famous beach, several renowned theatres and several of Melbourne's big events and festivals.

We had some initial problems with the lift not working on our arrival and having to carry our bags up 4 flights of stairs. Also leaving the code for the lift in the apartment one night and had to wait for someone who was on our level to take us up, our fault but a warning to have the code with you at all times. The apartment was clean and comfortable. Great location for ackland Street and it's cafes. Excellent furnishings and comfortable beds. Would have been helpful to have information about the local area including menus for local restaurants. The Italian directly across the road was fantastic, highly recommended.

The pictures and location speak for themselves. However
some small things bugged me.
I would prefer a top sheet under doona( but I know they are frequently missing overseas.)
Though four towels were provided there was room to hang only one. ( but heaps of wallspace for another rail.)
The shower recess was very smart but poorly designed and water could not be confined.
And please, though lots of little goodies, jams etc, were provided there was no pepper and salt. Still ... great! -

We arrived at 5.00 pm on a 30+ degree day to find all the blinds open at this apartment. The air con in the living area was struggling to make a difference. I shut the blinds and put the other two air con units on. In the living area there is only privacy blinds, so no shelter from the hot westerly sun. We went out to local wine bars and restaurants to find air con that worked.
Returning home after 10.00pm the apartment was still like an oven. The 3 air con units are
a. Either too small for the 3 room apartment.
b. very overdue for servicing
c.Not designed for australian conditions
It was hard to get to sleep in the hot apartment. I tried opening the windows and doors but there is not any fly screens and the Mozzies were busy that evening.
We did have cause to call reception prior to our arrival to be told the phone number was "only an emergency number". I did mention it was the only phone number on the recording to call for all bookings for the next 48 hours. Upon leaving we rang at 10.02 am to received a recording saying business hours were from 10.00 am !
The location is excellent. The apartment is a bit tired. Comfortable beds.Overall the service was not efficient.

Thanks for your feedback on this apartment. Most of the reviews for this apartment are very positive and it is unfortunate that your experience was not in line with the other reviews.
We find that the airconditioning is usuall ver effective, but on those rare very hot days- most airconditioners take a long time to really cool anywhere down. We will also ensure our service team are able to respond to your queries during business hours. -

The apartment is in a convenient location and is basicaly well presented. Unfortunately the white blinds in the main living and dining area offer no real protection from the sun on a hot day. Even with the blinds down, you still feel exposed to the elements which does not make for a very relaxing environment. The airconditioning did work however and once the sun went down(7/8ish during our stay in March) we saw some nice sunsets.I may use espresso apartments again but would not choose to stay in this apartment.

Our stay in this apartment was fantastic. It was extremely clean the beds were very comfortable. Provided us with all we needed for our stay. Walking distance to the trams, St Kilda precinct just around the corner.
The fire place was just so lovely in the cold winter week of our stay.
Would highly recommend this apartment to others. -

We stayed in a two bedroom apartment (we have 2 kids ages 2 & 3yrs) for 5 nights. We found the apartment to be in very clean condition and very well appointed for a short term rental. (The nespresso machine was a great addition) The apartment was only a short walk to acland street shops and our balcony had a view of luna park andthe melbourne skyline in the distance. Check in and check was very efficient and we had a very enhjoyable stay.

On arrival we found the appartment was not clean, floor and carpet were dirty as was toilets and showers! no gas to cook with and the allocated car space I couldn't fit my holden rodeo, so I had to park in visitors car space when available otherwise had to park outside! This tarnished what was a relaxing stay!

We stayed here for five weeks. It was absolutely lovely. Great apartment. Very attentive staff when we had questions. We intend to recommend Espresso to my husband's company since they have people traveling from the U.S. to Melbourne frequently. All in all--absolutely lovely space and terrace and wonderful service.

Left on 05/06/2011 for a stay in March 2011
The lift code we were given didn't work. It took a long time and a lot of luck for us to come across someone else from the same floor who could inform us that the lift code for the top floor had been changed the day before we got there. Even the cleaner, when we were checking out didn't know what it was, we had to tell her. The smoke alarm was constantly going off even though we weren't cooking or doing anything that may activate it normally. We had to knock it to the ground and remove the battery. Hardly a penthouse apartment - when all we had was a tiny bit of balcony - all the rest of it was fenced off. For the amount of money we paid for this apartment we felt it was disappointing. Not good value for money. Beds were comfy though, and it is in a brilliant position for everything.
Response from Espresso Apartments - 09/06/2011
Manager
We apologise for the problem with the lift codes which clearly hadn't been communicated to us in a timely manner. It is also unfortunate that the smoke alarm was so sensitive and needed a new battery which does happen from time to time. We do endeavour to change the smoke alarm batteries regularly.

Left on 02/10/2011 for a stay in February 2011
We had a fantastic stay at this penthouse suite. The suite was very clean and outfitted with all the comforts of home. The kitchen was stocked with cooking utensils to make a fabulous meal. A nice touch is the Foxtel cable. We stayed in other condo rentals and they typically have just free to air channels.
One of the main reasons we stayed here was the spacious patio deck. It has great views of St Kilda and not another apartment complex!
The location of the condo couldn't be any better. It's situated away from acland and the noiser part of Barkly St. But it was only a block away from them so really accessible for dinner and shopping.
Special thanks to the team at Espresso. They were very prompt, professional and able to accommodate us at the last minute.
We have stayed in numerous vacation rentals over the years and this is the best one we have stayed at. We would not hesitate to recommend this apartment. It will really make your visit to St Kilda unforgettable! -

Left on 02/08/2011 for a stay in December 2010
This unit was extremely run down despite its external appearance. Taps in the main batroom were not secured (as though someone had unscrewed them from underneath) the second bathroom door did not lock as the door did not line up with the latch so we had to stack things behind the door to get it to shut, The clock on the wall needed a replacement battery. This was reported on arrival and I was told that a maintenenace person would contact me the following day after arrival but he never did. One would expect that for $430/night this unit would be immaculate.

This review is obviously in stark contradiction to the other 10 reviews received for this property. Not really sure what to say about it, except it makes not sense to us. We suspect they may have been reviewing a different property and this is glitch?

Loved the accommodation. Felt special and generous. Nice owners. The fabulous coffee machine was great for the 6am starts as one of us would sleep in while the other was up with the kids! The pizza shop accross the road gave us dough to play with and was a 'grown up's' restaurant which was happy to accommodate the3yo and 6yo kids. Awesome location, not too noisy. Kids watched luna park in the distance from the bedroom window. Parking under building useful. 7/11 only metres away for papers and milk etc. Great stay. Used armadale Sitters who I would also highly recommend. Easy arrangements for keys and cleaners. A very happy holiday :-) thanks.

If you don't want to be in the heart of downtown Melbourne, and why would you when there are so many other lovely spots in this great city, then a 10 minute walk through funky St. Kilda to a gorgeous beach is a good alternative.
The 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment was very large with a great private terrace. It's decor is contempary with clean lines, greys, whites and the occasional pop of red. One of the bathrooms will soon need updating, but overall comfortable decor throughout.
The kitchen was minimally outfitted but you could manage simple hot meals. Great little espresso maker as well that felt like a treat.
Wonderful to have an in-suite washer/dryer as well.
The suite had one underground parking spot as well which made where to put the car a non-issue.
The building is a block from the busy, party street in St. Kilda but because it's around a corner, the noise is not intrusive.
The location is exceptional given you're a quick walk to the beach, 40 seconds to great bakeries, with the best cupcakes you'll ever have, bars, shops, a Saturday morning open air market, restaurants and did I mention bakeries?...
We stayed there 3 weeks and within a few days felt like we lived there.
The only issue we had was that the air conditioner leaked a considerable amount of water onto the carpeted floor. Despite several calls and assurances, we never did see that issue resolved so spent a bit too much time putting buckets under the drips and washing towels. Assuming that kind of issue isn't repeated, this is a great property.Response from Espresso Apartments - 09/06/2011
Manager
We apologise that our maintenance team could not get the air conditioner leak fixed for you during your stay. Most maintenance issues are dealy with swiftly and promptly to ensure guests experience minimum inconvenience. We are confident you will not have any issues during your next stay.

although this is a lovely appartment inside there are a few quibbles. The corridors are very dark and hot, the 'keys in the post box' for entry can be confusing, and the location is noisy. The rooms themselves are spacious and well decorated. We booked this one for 7 people, but in no way does it sleep 7, so one of us had to transfer to another 2 bed in the block, which meant extra costs for us. Stayed a further two days in smaller appartment, not as good as this one.
