St Martin Chalets were hand-built by expert carpenter Herbert Bliem and his team of local craftsman. The chalets are the perfect blend of old wood and traditional techniques with the latest in environmentally friendly insulation, underfloor heating, sunflower-oil-powered electricity, plus well-equipped central facilities with sauna and gym. The available chalet overlooks the central pond and is only 5 minutes from the main St Michael ski lift.

Lungau is a gorgeous and often missed part of Austria, which is also lucky enough to be one of the most snow sure parts of the Southern Alps. Thanks to its unique geography, it enjoys reliable snow as well as over 200 days of sunshine each year. The skiing is split over 5 different mountains, all interlinked, offering 250km of family-friendly skiing between 1700m and 2400m - all accessible through one lift pass.
The hamlet of St Martin and its larger cousin, St Michael (which is less than 10mins walk away), has numerous restaurants, traditional gesthouses and bars, offering wonderful local cuisine and authentic Austrian apres-ski and nightlife. The streets are lined with lovely architecture as well as local butchers, bakers, supermarkets and banks, offering all the necessary amenities.
Summer and winter alike, the area is one giant adventure playground, which offers all manner of activities from golf, white water rafting and paragliding to fishing, hiking, sightseeing and spa holidays.
Austria is only one hour from Italy, and enjoys a very similar climate (it's surprisingly hot in the summer). It's also very close to Hungary, Slovenia, Switzerland and Germany.

A lovely setting of 10 chalets, we had no 9, 3 good sized en-suite bedrooms with 4 further beds in the loft, adults in the bedrooms, 2 youngsters in the loft, ideal for us. Our chalet was well equipped, lovely fire, very warm, almost too warm at times. We had a bread delivery each day, though St Michael's was only a 10 min drive away with a good bakery. We had a fantastic Christmas with plenty of snow and sunshine as well, lots to do in the area, would go back again.

Stayed for 1 week at this resort in Chalet#10 (2 families sharing). What an amazing experience. The place is located in the most beautiful surroundings, and is high quality everything, from the spacious buildings and beautiful grounds in autentic austrian style, comfortable beds and living quarters, kitchenware and equipment right down to the wine opener. Location is fantastic with hikes on mountains all around. The kids made friends with kids from other chalets and played international kick-the- can every day. Management was super helpful and it was just a great pleasure to stay there.
If we ever go back to austria again (from Canada) this is where we will return. -

We've been to St Martin Chalets in the winter and summer and had amazing holidays each time. In the winter, there's great skiing on your doorstep and everything is so easy. The friendly local ski school, Skischule St Michael, is fantastic for the kids and ski hire is all arranged at the chalets for you. There is a great weekly programme of events you can sign up to free as chalet guests, including snow shoeing, ski touring, steep and deep off piste skiing and cross country skiing. Our kids also love tramping to the top of a mountain, gorging themselves on ribs and chips and tobogganing down at night! Even though we went in half term, the slopes were not busy.
The chalets are spacious, impeccably clean and very welcoming after a day on the slopes. The couple who run the chalets, Jodi and Herby, could not be more helpful and accommodating. It's all the little touches which make such a big difference, too. For example, you can choose to have freshly baked rolls and croissants from the local bakery delivered to your door each morning and you can send a shopping list in advance so your 'fridge is stocked when you arrive.
The chalets are also a great place to go in the summer. The landscape is stunning and there are loads of outdoor activities to enjoy - cycling, outdoor swimming pools, great walks, rafting and wonderful pubs to sit outside and enjoy a rice beer in the sun. We were taken on a great walk to a summit by Herby from St Martin Chalets one day and left the kids in Smarty Land, a summer activity programme for kids. They had such a great time trampolining, running round the woods, enjoying a water slide and climbing structures with safety harnesses that they begged us to let them spend another day there.
We have had the best family holidays at St Martin Chalets - I couldn't recommend them strongly enough.

Perfect chalet for quiet skiing holiday. Friendly English speaking staff, happy to accommodate any request. Chalets are all clearly very newly built, and certainly one of the nicest I've stayed in. Local lift just about walkable, though bus service fairly regular; St. Michael's ramge of pistes are limited but pleasantly empty. 5 min bus journey to neighbouring St. Margarethen. Nearest shop/supermarket is not walkable, but can arrange for food delivery if you don't have a car.

We had a great week in Saint Michael in the middle of March. The weather wasn't great the week we stayed (good snow!) but all the fun stuff we did made up for the lack of blue skies. In one week we managed to ride the snowbikes, be guided off piste, enter a tobogganing race, have a proper austrian sauna, walk up Spiereck on skis, have a Michelin Star meal, ski in the many different areas we had on our ski passes and of course just relax and enjoy our lovely chalet.
