Musquodoboit Harbour, Nova ScotiaAn amazing experience!
Left on 04/20/2013 for a stay in April 2013
Carolyn and Maurva made our vacation unbelievably wonderful! From having groceries already in the fridge to a delicious birthday cake stashed away as a surprise! Hilda was preparing our scrumptious arrival dinner, and having Mavis and Sabrina helping to keep things clean and tidy all week was just the right blend to make a fabulously relaxing holiday. We were a group of 17 and so had both Cragmere and Windermere - our toughest decision was which pool to swim in!! We all want to came back again soon!!

A last minute getaway turned into a dream vacation. Every aspect of this trip was wonderful. Carolyn was so easy to book with and even met us at the airport to take us to the villa, and that was just the beginning. She was readily available to assist us with anything while still giving us our space and privacy. Thank you for the most spectacular time (and the snorkeling gear)! Thanks to Sabrina for making everything so clean and comfortable. Although we rented a car, we didn't want to leave the property. A (native) resident of Barbados saw our villa and said that this is the nicest view she has ever seen on the island. We've traveled to many of the other islands and had a wonderful time in each one, but this villa is a rare find. The pictures you see are no exaggeration. Now that we're back on the frigid East Coast we're mentally planning our next trip.

We are still here at the villa but this place is so beautiful i had to write about it right away. The house itself is fantastic and beautiful. Large open area which acts as a family room dining room and the kitchen is big as well. The bedrooms are huge and the beds comfortable. All of the amenities are second to none. But where this house really shines is the outdoors area. The pool is decent size but the grounds around the pool are excellent and beautiful. There are daybeds, chairs and gazebos everywhere making it easy for everyone to get what they want, be it sun or shade.
Carolyn who met us at the house was awesome in getting the house prepared with 3 cribs and stocking the fridge. They also recommended Emanuel tours who picked us up from the airport who have also been awesome. The driver, Justin, has been amazing and patient, reliable and very friendly. We have used him to travel the entire island and I can't recommend them enough.
In all, this place is spectacular and the views are incredible. I am typing this while watching the sunrise from our patio!! Beautiful!! -

In order to celebrate my 50th birthday, my husband and I decided to rent Windermere Villa for 4 days and invite 3 other couples to join us. We all live in Barbados and appreciate the beautiful beaches and surroundings that the island provides us with on a daily basis. However, on entering Windermere we knew that we had found a truly hidden gem! Carolyn gave us a wonderful welcome, and called during our stay to see if there was anything that we needed. The housekeeper was very friendly, helpful and courteous. The villa itself is both spacious and comfortable inside and there is plenty of outdoor space too, from the pool deck to the upper rooftop deck, to the most wonderful daybed on the cliff. The view is magnificent! We invited other friends to a barbecue and everyone was totally blown away by this beautiful hidden gem. Forget the platinum coast of Barbados and think paradise on a cliff top with cool breezes and a million dollar view!! We would highly recommend this villa for a wonderful getaway or as an idyllic location for any special celebration.

This is an excellent villa and ticks all the boxes. There were four of us staying in the villa for four days before picking up our cruise. The welcome from Carolyn was exceptional! Her knowledge of the local area and the island is second to none. The villa itself is immaculately decorated and the design is modern living - ie open spaced downstairs living area incorporating the lounge and kitchen. Then you also have another superb outdoor "living" space. The pool is a decent size and the added luxury of the "day bed" situated in the rocks is just bliss. We would not hesitate booking this villa on a return visit to Barbados. Only slight downside - but not really a problem was that the speaker system wasn't working for music - but as we had an iphone with mini portable speakers ourselves we just used that. I believe this was being looked into anyway. You will need a car if you want to get out and explore the island and area - but as we had hired one anyway this was not a problem for us. As others have said, out of the two this is definitely the one to book.

Nova ScotiaBeautiful Villa Offering a Spectacular!
Left on 12/21/2012 for a stay in December 2012
I recently stayed at Windermere Villa ...wow what an beautiful property! Travertine marble, calm cream interiors and Mahoney furnishings throughout the villa set a tone of relaxation. The jewel of the villa is the swimming pool overlooking the stunning ocean view! The villa offers very large rooms with high ceilings. Ac is available but I preferred to open the deck doors to hear the crashing waves and capture the great ocean breeze. Three bedrooms have king beds and one room has twin beds all have full private bathrooms. Windermere is located a short walk to Crane Resort, so it's convenient if you want to visit the L'Azure Restaurant or the Crane Spa. A ideal choice for larger families or 4 couples travelling together, the property would also make an incredible destination wedding site.

Whitchurch, ShropshireAbsolutely beautiful villa
Left on 08/30/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We have just returned home from a 5 week Caribbean island hop which ended with a week's stay at Windermere. This villa is lovely and we would highly recommend it to everyone.
The space and size is more than you could wish for and the service that you receive during your stay and during the booking process, could not be faulted. Everything you may need whilst there is already provided and more. If you can think of anything else, then they will be happy to sort it for you.
We are a family of 4, our children being 13 and 10, and they too loved the accommodation. My parents also joined us who too were extremely pleased with every aspect of the villa.
The pool and outdoor space is just as pleasing as the inside with a fantastic view to top it off. There is a constant atlantic breeze off the sea although it is obviously still very warm.
The only downside to residing in the area is that you are a little out of it with regards to restaurants and the likes of but that did not bother us as we always get a car with it being so easy drive on the island.
We would definitely recommend it to anyone and will probably be rebooking in the near future.
Just a quick tip, out of Windermere and Cragmere next door, there is no contest, Windermere is far superior and we would always book that of the two.
A big thank you to Carolyn for making the booking process so straight forward, and to Sabrina who was our lovely housekeeper whilst there.

154976Satisfaction Brought Us Back
Left on 04/10/2012 for a stay in April 2012
We have just returned from our second rental of the Windermere Villa in april 2012 and we will be back!
Our first time renting the villa was in March 2010 when we rented it for two weeks and over the course of the two weeks had extended family join us as well as highschool kids and young adults. It was a fabulous experience in part because of the grandeur of the villa; in part because of the incredible staff who get service; and the generous and kind owners who followed up to make sure everything was done right.
Two other couples joined us for a week (one returning and one for the first time) this time and our early regret was that we only came for 1 week but we won't make that mistake again. We had sung high praises of the villa and the staff and so we were somewhat nervous that we had oversold the place (memories do tend to get fonder with the passing of time) but that went out the window on the first day. Our trip was delayed due to airline issues and so we were saddened to think we would have one less day there but that was dispelled when Carolyn the local manager arranged for us to stay at the sister Craigmere Villa for an extra night at the end of the week at no charge!
If that was not enough the warmth and charm of Sabrina removed any doubt that may have remained. She is a jewel and contributes in no small way to the charm and specialness of the property.
And speaking of the property it was every bit as special as we remembered it between the magnificent views; the open air feel to the villa; the new day bed jutting out over the cliffs where the ocean sounds and pounding waves lulled us to nap time on a number of occaisions; the refreshing infinity pool; anf for those of us needing to ease into relaxation a robust wireless network that allowed us to work and still enjoy the surroundings.
The staff are incredibly helpful in arranging reservations and transportation to a wide variety of venues including golf, restaurants, and touristy venues.
The proximity to the Crane Resort and its facilities only serves to enhance the whole Windermere experience. And we were able to participate in some local cuisine thanks to the staff arraning for a wonderful local cook to come in one night and cook for us.
So we will be back and next time we will be staying for the 2 weeks again so we get to enjoy fully what we would simply call the Windermere experience. -

we recently stayed at Windermere in St. Philip. The location is excellent. The villa is absolutely lovely. But more importantly the staff was wonderfully helpful and always pleasant and available. The property is in immaculate condition and is located in a quieter location on the island than the west coast. You will be happy with every thing that this villa and staff have to offer

The Windmere is a beautiful house in a beautiful spot. It was the perfect vacation rental for me and my family. We loved the house itself and found the location to be ideal. However, as I will explain further down, I would only caution that the Windmere's location might not suit every traveler's needs.
The house itself is in near mint condition. There are four large bedrooms each with its own bathroom plus another bathroom on the ground floor off the living room. The master bedroom is on the second floor but all of the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Three of the rooms have french doors looking out to the ocean. Furnishings are modern with everything you need but not a lot of extra clutter. Beds are big, comfortable with nice linens and comforters. There are air conditioning units in every room and big fans that keep things comfortable in main room. The shared space is essentially a big open room with a dining space, a living room with big, comfortable couches and an open kitchen with an island. Overall, I think the condition and style of the house compares favorably to an upscale hotel room.
The house is situated on the ocean and the back deck feature beautiful views of the coastline. Two sets of french doors lead from the main room to back porch. There is a pool in the back and a pagoda which offers comfortable shade in the afternoon. There are also stairs in the back which lead to a roof deck with even more expansive views of the coast line which we found to be perfect for happy hour at sunset. There is a big table on the porch and we enjoyed eating dinner there most nights.
There are two boardwalks from the back of the house. One leads to a daybed situated among the rocks overlooking the ocean and is a perfect place for a nap. The second leads to a long flight of stairs which, in turn, lead down to the ocean. The area at the bottom of the stairs has jagged rocks and the ocean is pretty powerful there. It would be possible to climb over the rocks to get in the water but we mostly explored around the rocks (and found a few conch shells). We also saw some small crabs climbing around the rocks which the kids thought was cool. However, this is not a private beach where you could lay out some towels as the surf comes right up to the rocks.
From the pictures on the web, I was concerned about whether the back of the house represented a potential danger for our young kids. The house is very well fenced in and the drop off from the deck to the ocean is more gradual than I expected from the pictures on the web. Our extended family was there with 10, 8 and 2 year old kids. You might need to keep a closer eye on kids in the 4-6 year old zipcode that would be old enough to get through the fences but might get themselves into trouble without supervision. While certainly vigilant, we tend to be pretty relaxed and found the situation to be easily manageable. However, more anxious parents might have an issue.
I would divide Barbados into 4 regions. The West Coast is highly developed with hotels, shopping and restaurants including the Sandy Lane, the most famous resort on the island. The beaches tend to be relatively thin and there is very little surf on the West Coast. The Southwest Coast is also very developed but with more surf. The East Coast has a much rougher surf and is primarily a surfers haven with less development and a more bohemian feel (recommend visiting for physical beauty but not good for kids swimming). Windmere is on the Southeast Coast. There is some development here including the well known Crane Resort. However the development is not as concentrated as on other parts of the island. We managed to see most of the island during our trip and much preferred the pristine setting of the Windmere to any other place we might have stayed. However, I think a car is essential if renting at the Windmere due to limited number of close by dining or beach options and, with traffic, it could easily take 45 minutes to drive back to the West Coast for a more elaborate night out (Restaurants on the southeast coast would have been much closer but would still require a drive or a taxi). We were mostly happy cooking at home or eating at the Crane (Carriage House at the Crane has great views for lunch and food is fine albeit nothing special).
Windmere is located directly next door to the Crane resort and I was able to walk to the stores in the Crane resort in 10 minutes. (The resort is set back so does not interrupt the incredible view). It would be possible to walk to either Foul Bay to the west of Windmere or Crane Beach to the east in 15 minutes or so but it would be difficult to do with a bunch of towels and kids etc and we almost always chose to drive (walking might be more feasible with no kids involved. The house is situated in a small cul de sac near 3 or 4 other houses and the area seemed very safe (actually the whole island felt very safe to us). It was a 2 minute drive to near by convenience stores and a 5-7 minute drive to the larger grocery store at 6 Roads where we bought mint for mojitos.
Some of the websites I checked cautioned about strong surf on this part of the island but my 8 year old girl was very comfortable swimming at Crane beach, which is extremely beautiful. Crane beach can be accessed though the resort (just tell them that you are eating at Carriage House) or by public access less than one minute further down the road by car. We chose to drive to several different beaches during our week in Barbados including Enterprise (Miami) beach very beautiful with mix of locals and tourists 15 minute drive and Dover Beach, another 5 minutes past Enterprise beach.
The manager of the house was very helpful, picking up my parents from the airport and arranging for a taxi to pick us up. She was also extremely quick to address any question that came up during our stay. Another very lovely woman would come to clean up each morning and gave us great advice about getting around the island. They also offered reliable taxi service but we mostly drove ourselves.
In conclusion: a beautiful house, great location, great views and great management. We had two slight complaints. First, the pool is not heated which is typical for Barbados (we noticed pools were not heated at the fancy Crane resort for example). The water was not freezing but too cold for my kids to spend extended time (they are admittedly spoiled on this issue). Also, there was not a bbq grill when we got there which we viewed as essential given that we intended to prepare many of our meals at home. However, this issue was remedied by management which bought us a new charcoal grill and told us they have plans to install a permanent grill. -

If anyone is heading to Barbados I highly reccommend you stay at the Windmere or Craigmere villas. These Villas are the most impressive houses I have ever stayed in, the way they hang on a cliff over the ocean is surreal and the view is like nothing I have ever seen. Not to mention the private infiti pool and world class beaches on either side of the villas.

This was my 3rd trip to Barbados, usually I stay at Cragmere Villa, which is also a fantastic place to stay for your week of luxury!! This time we decided to stay at the new Windermere Villa which is located right beside Cragmere. Unbelieveable view, beautiful living quarters, location and service! Our Villa manager Carolyn and housekeeper Sabrina, made sure we felt right at home and anything we needed, they were there to help. They both were spectacular ! This gorgeous property overlooking the azure ocean waters offers privacy and spectacular views. The luxurious decor extends to the pool and balconies, including a king sized day bed located on a detached gazebo perched on a cliff. The knowledgeable staff is warm, inviting and eager to assist in any way to ensure you truly enjoy the experience of their Island. Our stay couldn’t have been more perfect! A multitude of thanks to our host Tim Moore; the property Manager, Carolyn; our always smiling and exceptional housekeeper, Sabrina; to Hilda for the wonderful dinners she prepared for us; and of course Dave, from the house recommended car service, for guiding us on our many outings.
