      Charming chateau in lower Normandy

Left on 01/19/2013 for a stay in September 2012

My mother-in-law, wife, and I stayed in September of 2012 for one night. Jacques and Marie Claire were wonderful hosts. Jacques spoke english; however, Marie Clarie did not. But not an issue. The small chateau has some history which Jacques was able to provide along with some local history as well. The rooms are large with high ceilings and the beds comfortable. The bathrooms were en suite and modern. The windows were huge for plenty of fresh french air. The country side here is quiet and picturesque. For breakfast, I had my first 3 minute egg. The additional juice, coffee, breads, jams, and yogurt were plenty. Of the 4 places we stayed during our week in Normandy, Chateau de Saint Charles de Percy was the most personable. Jacques was available but unobtrusive. We felt at ease and at home. Our hosts were very gracious. It was touching that when we left, they both came out to see us off. We could not miss the photo opportunity. And they were waving as we drove away. Next time we are in Lower Normandy, we will stay again.

We made the reservation directly with Jacques via e-mails. No issues, very easy. No deposit, just cash when we arrived. Could not be simpler.

Jacques told us of the story of an american, Lieutenant Delbert Schmid, sheltered and protected by the locals, he had to evacuate with them and met his death on the road to Saint Charles de Percy with numerous civilians. There is a memorial at the cemetery across the road. Jacques, being the mayor, had a letter from the airman's home state governor. Amazing story. Nearby, there is also a British war cemetery that is very beautiful.

Jacques recommended a very good restaurant, Le Moulin de Jean. It was a short drive, but worth it. Additionally, Jacques was able to provide a wifi booster to have internet in the bedroom.
