Description from the owner

Les Terraces sur la Dordogne lies in an historic bastide town on the Dordogne. We are told that the house was built in the mid-1200s, although it was probably built about 100 years later, and was orginally used as a warehouse for goods shipped by barge up and down the river, which runs right outside the house.

Renovated in 2000, and again in 2009, the Ground Floor offers spacious open-plan accommodation for up to 6 people (1136 sq ft or 105.5 sq m). This generous apartment has a spacious river terrace with direct access to the Quai alongside the river.

Located right in the middle of 2 famed wine producing districts (Bergerac & B...Read more

The terrace view is the Dordogne river - it can't be beaten

Left on 08/24/2012 for a stay in April 2011

We spent a marvellous week here, it was great being in the centre of a small town with everything needed a short walk away, or at most, a short drive. The town is delightful with a considerable medieval heritage still evident in the buildings; well supplied with restaurants and a huge Saturday market. Acquitaine is easily accessible, with castles, chateaux and vineyards within at most a couple of hours drive through lovely countryside. St Emilion is just an hour away and well worth a day out. The apartment is well equipped and comfortable, with everything needed for your stay provided. We were sorry to leave, but aim to return as the whole experience was so enjoyable.

      Wonderful apartment overlooking the Dordogne

Left on 04/15/2012 for a stay in April 2012

We stayed at this apartment over Easter and, in spite of the weather, enjoyed ourselves immensely. The apartment is very well appointed and spacious. It has a terrace with barbecue, table and chairs that overlooks the Dordogne.

Within walking distance are a number of patisseries and good restaurants. Sainte-Foy-La-Grande is quite well positioned for visiting places such as Bergerac, St Emilion and Perigueux. The caves drawings at Lasscaux are about 90 minutes away.

relaxing, gorgeous riverside terrace, character oozes from the b

Left on 08/15/2011 for a stay in August 2011

We stayed at Les Terraces for a week in august this year (2011). The apartment surpassed what the pictures on the website show you. The building is 800 years old, beautifully restored and oozes character and charm. There's lots of space - we were 2 adults and 2 lively boys and we all really enjoyed the experience.

The riverside terrace is special - we ate breakfast there, had coffee there and a nightly glass of wine. The river flows right past the door and we had our own steps with direct access to the quay through a private locked gate. The area around is quiet so we slept really well.

There are some nice laid back restaurants nearby, Alex suggested some lovely ones, and the kitchen is really well equipped for cooking. We were delighted with the hi tech spec - who would have thought it of such an old building? Wifi access, large plasma tv with two cable boxes attached, dvd player; surround sound, even an iPod cable for mp3 playing!

We were concerned that the kids might be bored, being inland. No chance! There's a beach (yes!) on the opposite bank of the river which is super for a swim or tiddler fishing and alex helped organize canoeing for us on the Dordogne one morning which was really something special. We had never done it before but it was easy and safe and great family fun.

On other days we drove to see castles (with catapults, swords and armor), vineyards and historic towns in the surrounding countryside.

The whole apartment is open plan, including both bedrooms, which are curtained off rather than walled off. While this initially seems odd, it is nicely done in sympathy with the structure and layout of the lovely old building that it is.

All in all, a lovely rental - well deserving of an excellent rating. We do hope to be back in the future.

      Absolutely wonderful!

Left on 08/04/2011 for a stay in October 2010

My friends and I rented the entire house (3 apts ) for a week last fall and couldn't have been happier. The town was perfect for our needs (a market, bakeries and a few good restaurants) and the location was great for day trips. The area is stunning.

The house was absolutely beautiful and spotless. The pictures do not do it justice. We would definitely go back and hope to one day. This year we are doing a different area with the same friends but we are all still talking about Les Terraces.

The owner, Alex, was very helpful and easy to deal with, as was the woman who met us at the house.

The top floor and the main floor were our favourites as the middle apt didn't have a deck but was still very lovely.

If you rent this house you will not be disappointed. We will definitely go back one day as one week was not enough.

beautiful apartment, very good location, welcomed like visiting

Left on 05/19/2011 for a stay in August 2010

We stayed a week in this quality spacious apartment, travelling by car to surrounding wine regions. At night we cooked in the fully equipped kitchen and ate on the patio overlooking the river. Our hosts were amazing, going all out to welcome us, provide tourism advice and cater to our needs. Small problem with the wireless internet dropping out, probably due to the 2' thick walls! The downstairs bedroom is not private, which is worth knowing if you are sharing with other than family.

      Wonderful relaxing break.

Left on 05/22/2010 for a stay in September 2009

Had we known what a delightful place Les Terraces sur la Dordogne was we would have made sure to stay a few days longer. The owner made us very welcome and we were extremly well looked after.

The flat is very spacious, nicely furnished and homely with all the necessary facilities and a large terrace. The house is overlooks the splendid river Dordogne (excellent for fishing we believe, pitty we left our fishing rods at home!)

The location is quiet and yet within walking distance to the shops and other amenities, such as the wonderful Saturday market. There are plenty of places to visit chateauxs, vineyards and beautiful villages set in lovely countryside.

      We would certainly visit again.

Our stay at Les Terraces sur la Dordogne was the perfect place for a relaxed and exciting vacation. Located on the river in Ste. Foy we enjoyed the beauty of the area and many day trips to small towns and villages. The home like atmosphere of the apartment was a welcome spot after a day of sightseeing.
