Set in the Bordeaux vineyards and recently renovated throughout our beautiful 2 bed Vine Cottage is perfectly situated for exploring the Dordogne Chateaux or Bordeaux & its coast. It is only 5 miles from the medieval wine city of St. Emilion. Left on 05/08/2013 for a stay in April 2013

What a welcome! An absolutely wonderful meal prepared by our hosts was waiting for us upon arrival. The timing was great as we had travelled down from Paris and rented a car in Libourne. (Here's some help-in the smaller towns, the car rental places close at 6:30pm). Your host will recommend that you print out the map he attaches to your booking agreement. I didn't take it as we had lived in Belgium for 5 years so I was comfortable with the written instructions and handling road signage, roundabouts, etc. The instructions were perfect, so we had no problem finding the cottage and getting in. (It also helps to have a phone that works overseas-in case you get lost.)
Once we got into the Vine Cottage, Andy appeared within minutes to personally welcome us. He went over some of the Do's and Don'ts, explained the way to operate the appliances, pointed out his welcome booklet that explains everything any traveller could ever want and/or need about the surrounding area, and then he took his leave. Andy is a kind and considerate host who respects your privacy, but who also makes you feel comfortable going up to his chateau to ask him questions.
Now for the Vine Cottage. It is exactly as described in the listing. It is in very good condition with all of the amenities listed in his description. The welcome box with wine and cheese helped make for a first great evening. The downstairs master bedroom is very comfortable, and for complete privacy and a good nights sleep, pull the shutters closed and you won't know if its daylight or still dark outside. The bed is great and you will get a great night's rest. The upstair's bedroom has two single beds that aren't as comfortable as the one downstairs, but they would work fine for younger children.
The rest of the cottage is comfortably furnished and all necessary appliances are provided.
The one downside, is that there are about 10 metal stairs you will need to lug your suitcase up when you arrive. But that is one downside I would gladly overlook to book a stay at this vacation rental. Too cold to use the pool, but it looked very inviting. My wife and I are now considered senior citizens, and we had no problem using this cottage. And if your group is larger, he has a one bedroom cottage next door and even a smaller care-taker cottage that can be rented out at the same time.
Our only regret was having to leave...
I would suggest booking here for a week or more. There is plenty to see in and around St. Emilion; as this is a world class destination.

Dear Greg. It was a pleasure to have you here & we are so glad that you had a wonderful time. The master bedroom has a UK/continental king sized bed which is why you found it so comfortable. The twin room (that you did not use) has standard UK/continental adult sized twin beds. However, we know that to American eyes they seem small by comparison to your usual larger US bed sizes. Best regards & see you again sometime. Andy

Andrew and Richard are perfect hosts- discreet, friendly, and Richard is a great cook.
Andrew is very efficient in sorting out the arrangements and this is a rental where you can have a high level of confidence.
The one bed apartment was very clean and very well equipped. The pool was well maintained. Richard and andrew lived next door but we never felt intruded upon- they have the measure of privacy and welcome down to a fine art.
We would recommend and would stay again when we are in the region.

We have stayed at Vines & Roses on 3 occasions, 2006-8-9. The location is superb amongst the vineyards. The villages of Listrac and Puisseguin are within easy walking distance. St Emelion is a short drive away and is one of the most beautiful villages we have come across in our travels. There is a market on most days at a different village within the area. The accommodation is extremely comfortable and the hosts could not do enough for us. Could not recommend this property more highly. Return visit cannot come quick enough.

A wonderfully warm welcome in a very well equipped gite with absolutely every kitchen utensil you could possibly need. Perfect setting and very well located for visiting this beautiful area. The list of local markets & amazing family run wine chateaux provided was very useful and we spent many happy hours visiting some of them. The wines were superb & cheap!!!
