We went as a mature couple who wanted to totally relax. Bernard was in residence during our stay and was very helpful - he responded quickly to requests. The views are absolutely magnificent and the garden is gorgeous. The villa is well fitted with mod cons. The internet worked well, as did the washing machine and dishwasher. The villa sits below the main house and is quite private, however the pool, which looks fantastic in the photos, turned out to be the overflow from the infinity pool at the main villa above, and was disappointing. Every time someone swam in the infinity pool above us, we got the overflow. We did not even bother to go in it, as it was more of a plunge pool than a swimming pool. The biggest problem for us was the lack of a sofa or any really comfortable chairs to relax in. Bernard did supply some different chairs when requested, but they were not much more comfortable than the director's chairs which were originally provided in the main living/kitchen area - this was outdoors on the verandah. The house is set up for people who plan to relax and make their own amusements. The TV is in one of the bedrooms It would work well for a family where privacy is not such an issue, but not for 2 couples.
Martinique was an extremely busy island, and the standard of driving was awful and absolutely terrifying at night, so we did not go out after dark. You really need to rent a car because the villa is on a residential estate and you need a car to go anywhere - the supermarket is about 5k distant.
If you are a couple, looking for a very quiet romantic time in the sun, this is perfect.Response from Suzy BRY - 04/21/2013

Concerning the comfort rating 3 of 5 , we have noted that you prefer for your comfort the armchairs filed by Bernard during your stay. We had put at your disposal, prior to the change of furniture, the garden furniture of the luxury brand: Triconfort, brand normally known for its comfort and quality of its products. You did not like and we understand completely and we had changed by the new seats. We always try to meet the expectations of our guests and we have in store, cushions, chairs, table ......
This property was designed and built by one of the most renowned architects in the Caribbean. The cascading pools were designed and implemented to generate a noise of water runoff very refreshing during the sunny days.
Last point : cleanliness 4 of 5 : The garden is maintained by a company every Friday to provide to our guests perfectly mowed lawns. Despite the care that gardeners provide during the mowing and the collect of the grass, on each intervention some dust and mowed grass are thrown a little bit on the terrace and we are sorry for that .

DevonVilla in pretty gardens with great sea views

The location of this villa in Casse Pilote is one of the best residential areas in Martinique, but you must have a car to visit beaches, shops & restaurants etc. The villa is in attractive gardens with a good view over the Caribbean, facing west to see the sunsets. The pool is private & clean but not huge.
The villa's facilities are quite adequate, certainly for a couple, but may be a little cramped for four people. It has all the basic requirements; the cooking, dining & sitting area is on an open balcony, which is OK considering the climate.
The owners, who were there during our stay, were friendly (but not too much so!) & helpful. I thought the price was about right for the facilities on offer.
For those who haven't visited Martinique before, I would highly recommend it. The blend of French & Creole culture makes it much more interesting than some of the other islands with mountainous terrain & excellent infrastructure (courtesy of the EU!), and - to a Brit - good cheap French wine & food.
Go for it!
