July bookings: July through mid August is our busiest time of year for lodging and typically fills up with 5+ night stays. We ask for a four night minimum at that time. Two and three night stays may be taken at the last minute (within 7 to 10 days) or when a two or three night window is created by consecutive bookings. Thank you for understanding.

Star Mesa is delightful cabin/log home with comfy, tasteful furnishings, a great kitchen with large breakfast/entertainment bar, and open livin...g/dining areas. Each bedroom has a comfy Queen size bed. The pull out couch is also queen size. It is great for a family, or peace and quiet. The mountain views are vast and amazing. Deer, elk, and turkeys frequent the neighborhood. You will love the large deck and the porch swing view of the peaks. The five-acre property looks and feels like a thousand as you look from the deck across the pond at the expanse of Big Horn Sheep canyon and mountains to the north, and the Sangre De Cristo mountains to the south. In spring and summer it is green and surrounded by the sounds of Cherry Creek flowing down from the mountains. Skinny dip in the pond or sunbathe in privacy on the deck. Fall is a golden wonderland. In winter light a fire and burrow in, or head for the hills to ski.

Star Mesa is three miles from the Arkansas River, and a 15-mile drive from Salida and all of its charming amenities, restaurants, galleries, hot springs pool, world-class boating and fishing. Monarch Ski Area is a 40-minute drive. Bring your bikes, boots, skis, or some good books and a yoga mat.

All vacation homes in the Pinon collection are "vacation ready" with a fully appointed kitchen, towels and linens. Hand, dish and shower soaps are provided as well as tp, trash bags and coffee filters. Bring your own laundry detergent, paper products (paper towels, napkins) and toiletries. Star Mesa is also equipped with an ironing board, iron and hair dryer.

Three night minimum is preferred, however, two nights may be available upon approval with a cleaning fee. Two night stays will not be scheduled over two weeks in advance during High Season and Holidays. Owners reserve the right to accept or refuse three night stays during High Season and Holidays. Extended stay rates are available subject to owner use and availability. Your dog is welcome with a $10/nt pet fee. Please read rental policies (tab at bottom of page).

For stays of fewer than 3 nights, a short stay cleaning fee will be charged ($65). $45 applies towards the cleaning cost and covers accidental damage protection up to $1500. Visa or Master Card accepted. Cash or Check receives a 2.9% discount.

Rental agreements must be signed and returned by email or mail at time of reservation.

7/22/11 Excellent vacation in lovely Colorado! This house was the perfect location - quiet, peaceful, able to accommodate a wonderful family reunion! The back deck is amazing - absolutely gorgeous views all day long, wonderful meals out there. The table under the trees is very special as well - great place for dining and relaxing! The wind through the cedars leads to unbelieveable inner peace. You have a wonderful home - cozy, inviting, open and warm - thank you for sharing it with us! Washington State, Colorado, Minnisota

8/8/11 Wow! Star Mesa fare exceeded our expectations and we have falledn deeply in love with "the crown jewel of Howard"! From a parents perspective it was the perfect place to return to each day after enjoying all the area has to offer. The back deck looking onto the gorgeous meadow, pond and mountains beyond was a feast for our eyes. The home itself is beautifully decorated, open and wonderful for our group of 5 and a very happy dog. Everyone was comfortable and we all agree, we love it here! Barton Family from Colorado

8/12/12 Star Mesa is a gem. Waking up to sunrise over the mountains, seeing deer in our front yard and the peaceful nights are my idea of a relaxing vacation. We loved playing in the pond and canoeing in the morning is very romantic. Star Mesa's a great base for our 4-wheeling and rafting adventures. We hope to come back! Blair, NE

  We have stayed in many cabin rentals over the years and this place is simply the best. Upon our arrival, the cabin was spotless and we settled right in. The views are absolutely spectacular and we saw all kinds of wildlife - deer, turkey, coyotes, birds and even a bear off in the distance. The fenced yard for the dog is a bonus. We brought our motorcycle and there was ample parking for our trailer. We were right at home and hope to return soon.

  Quiet, Peaceful and Expansive Views

  In my continued exploration of Colorado, I decided to head down to Salida this week. I prefer to stay somewhere quiet and private rather than stay in the hustle and bustle of town. Star Mesa fit that bill. The property was easy to find (my 'Navi' led me all the way to the drive) and the key box kept me from having to go into Salida (20 min drive one way) to get a key. The home was comfortable, clean and the only hustle and bustle were the birds, crickets and coyotes that provided a daily serenade. Pick a seat - the back porch, the front porch swing or the sunroom - none will disappoint. For my own personal taste - and this may not apply to everyone - the satellite tv channels are limited but you do have an Internet connection (I do like to keep up, if only for a few minutes, with the outside world - even on vacation). Overall, I enjoyed my stay - now it's on to another place in CO to explore.

  We found the cabin to be exactly as promoted. It was quite easy to find, everything was clean and comfortable. A good supply of firewood was cut and stacked for our use. We spent a good share of our time at the cabin just enjoying the view, the quiet and the deer and turkeys. The wildlife is what I liked best. Not seeing a bear is what I liked least.

  This getaway was just what I needed. Didn't see another soul, perfect.
  Quiet and off the beaten path. Great. Our dog loved the fenced yard. I am not sure who loved this vacation spot more? Cozy and warm when the wood stove really got going. Everything worked great. Would recommend for summer or winter get away. Roads were fine even in January.

  Our Vacation cabin in Howard

  My husband and I have finally found the perfect cabin get-away for us
  and our two dogs. After a grueling three and a half months of doing non-stop taxes my husband needs much needed r&r; to get away from the phones, computer and people in general. He sleeps a lot!!! But when he is not sleeping he can enjoy watching old movies that we bring, reading, and walking the 5 acre meadows, playing with the dogs in the pond and just generally doing nothing in particular. I sit out on the covered deck and dabble in my watercolors and take photos of passing wildlife. This property is private and secluded yet near enough to Salida and its amenities. There is a small general store in Howard if we need a quick trip to the store. Privacy is our number one priority in a rental cabin. This has both the privacy and the comfort for the perfect home away from home. This June will be our third stay at Star Mesa! Marrin and Bill Sampson
