Description from the owner

Directly on the ocean, a rare chance to rent a newly restored, antique British Colonial Vacation House, in Salt Cay. With spectacular ocean views to the west and calming salina views to the east. The Half Way House is situated, in the heart of historic Balfour Town, in walking distance to 2 restaurants, a grocery store and the island dock, yet secluded and private.

Newly restored, with great attention to quality and detail, the house offers beamed ceilings, ship knee supports, wood lined walls and multiple large shuttered doors. In keeping with the original origins of the house, it is decorated with antiques, and historical tropical dec...Read more

      The one bad thing...

Left on 03/06/2013 for a stay in January 2013

The only bad thing is having to leave!!!
This is by far the premier rental property on the island, and this house really makes a trip to Salt Cay complete!
Most properties on SC are old historical buildings, many of which have only been upgraded to a basic standard . this is fine if say, you are diving all day and just want a bed to crash in?
If you want more of a luxury experience, then Halfway House is the answer! It’s an old historical Salt Merchants house that has been remodelled to an exceptionally high standard, yet retains loads of charm!
It is right on the water (no beach, but it’s not needed!) and you can spot whales while relaxing in the comfy sun loungers!
It has a clean modern kitchen, luxury furnishings and is ideally situated for walking / biking the island (golf buggy is available too)
be aware: the photos do not do it justice – its far far better!!!

      Blissful relaxation in Luxurious Home

Left on 02/26/2013 for a stay in February 2013

We were sold on arrival. Half Way House is spectacular and Salt Cay is liking stepping back in time (in a very good way). Half Way House was beautiful and has all the "wants". WiFi for those who have to keep in touch with the real world, satellite TV if you just cant stay away from it and luxury that does not say don't touch!

The Caribbean the way it was

Left on 01/14/2013 for a stay in January 2013

Once a year a freind and I try to get one step beyond where the rest of the world goes on vacation. We certainly found that here. The previous review is entirely accurate and worded better than my simple skills will allow. This is a fantastic house in a truly special place. We enjoyed the satellite tv (read: NFL wildcard games) and fee wifi. The diving was good. The golf cart rental is a must. You absolutely must see North Beach. We went there every day and never saw anyone. The food at the Coral Reef restaurant just down the way is good and very convenient (I reccommend the meal plan). We just missed the whales but apparently they surface right out front of the house in season (late February is the best time). If you have a layver in Provo I highly recommend getting food to bring over as stores on the island are very limited. if you absolutely have to have it you better bring it with you. If you ever wondered what the Caribbean looked like fifty or even a hundred years ago this is the place for you.

Halfway House is a beautiful and comfortable home to spend a vac

Left on 01/10/2013 for a stay in December 2012

Halfway House is a beautiful grand old home. We really enjoyed out time there. The house is very spacious and well-appointed. The breezes flow through the house so there is no need for a/c. The kitchen is large and well equipped. The only drawback is the oven which is far too hot. This home is located in a great spot on the water and close to the restaurants. There is no sandy beach out front but it is within walking distance. We would love to rent this home again.

      Christmas at Salt Cay

Left on 01/10/2013 for a stay in December 2012

Salt Cay is a wonderful experience and Halfway House made it extra special. This is a beautifully appointed and comfortable residence with all of the amenities to make it a home away from home. Every aspect of our stay was perfect. The view is beautiful. The people of Salt Cay are so welcoming. Highly recommend.

      The best in Salt Cay!!

Left on 06/05/2011 for a stay in May 2011

May 2011: I have just returned from a week at the Half Way House on Salt Cay Island. I can't say enough about this one-of-a-kind property! It was clear to me, from the moment I walked in, that Holly and Rick have restored this historic house with patience, a commitment to its historic roots and attention to detail. While I appreciated the integrity of the original pieces preserved in the home, I absolutely loved the fact that it was decorated in colourful, contemporary colours and had both modern and antique furnishings, making me feel right at home! It's always a treat to have "all the comforts of home" in your vacation spot and this is the case with the Half Way House - dishwasher, high-speed internet connection, flat screen TV with access to current programming. Because it backs onto the ocean (west) and fronts on the east, the constant breeze sails through the house from morning to night. Air con is therefore not necessary - my bedroom windows, aided by the ceiling fan, provided the ideal natural coolant each night! Spotlessly clean, great reading materials, magnificent views from the front (the historic salt pools) and the back (the Caribbean Ocean!!) made my daily question "Where shall I read, front or back", the most complex decision I had to make! As for Salt Cay Island, it is perfect for those seeking a quiet, relaxing getaway without the commercialism of most touristy resorts on other islands. As for me, I'll be back. The Half Way House will be my accommodation of choice! Cheers, Sandra
