What Past Guests Are Saying
This cool, comfortable historic home is well appointed and close to all the downtown San antonio shopping, sights, restaurants and nightlife. We walked to an outdoor concert and enjoyed dinner on the Riverwalk. Another day we broused the stores in Riverwalk Center and caught a movie at the Imax Theater. We took a river taxi and enjoyed the music, lights and laughter. What a refreshing vacation!
Cool stay in hot San antonio!
My colleagues and I were in town for a conference and called the Historic House our home for a week. We skipped the commercial hotels in favor of a more genuine Texan experience. We weren't blown away by how the place looked from the outside, but the inside was excellent! It was fully airconditioned, which was crucial given the scorching august temperatures outside. Retha, the owner, lived across the street and went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure our stay was the most pleasant one ever. She even gave us a little tour of San antonio and we hitched a ride with her to a shopping mall to buy some stuff. The place was very clean, beds were very comfortable, and it has all the facilities, so we could do groceries and prepare meals at home. Also has a washing machine and hi-speed wireless connection. It's close to several good restaurants and about a 10-15 min walk to the center of the city, or a few minutes by bus (or take one of the complementary bikes). Had we stayed longer we probably would have thrown a bbq outside. All in all a great experience and highly recommended.

We just returned from taking our two small granddaughters, ages 3 & 5, to see the Riverwalk Christmas lights and a few other sights in San antonio. They were both fascinated by the sound of their feet pitter-pattering on the beautiful hardwood floors. This beautiful, charming, nastalgic home also presented a great education opportunity for the kiddos. They now know about dormer windows, original hardware on doors, and clawfoot tubs, just to mention a few things. The neighborhood is very safe, and we enjoyed being able to walk to a couple nearby restaurants in this historic neighborhood. Thank you, Retha! We hope to see you again soon.

Historic and Shabby Chic in Old San Antonio
This home is a hidden gem! Nicely located in an older family neighborhood; an easy walk to restaurants & trolley stops. It is also within walking distance to the Alamo for those who are inclined.
The home itself dates to yesteryear when it would have house a profitable merchant and his family, and it has been lovingly restored and updated. Wide-plank flooring, gracious high ceilings, air conditioning, internet access, TV, couch, desk, front porch with comfy Adirondack chairs, and a huge farm-style kitchen table allow visitors to relax and enjoy themselves after a hard day of tourist activities. The beds were quite comfortable and there were two full baths; one with a claw-foot tub!
The owner lives nearby and had the place in spic 'n span condition, fresh pastries ready for breakfast and orange juice and eggs in the fridge. What could be better? She was very responsive to every need and conversed easily about her extensive knowledge of the area. As we left, I mentioned to the owner that the one love seat sized couch wasn't enough to easily lounge and relax by the TV, and so she went right out and bought another couch and added a lamp. How's that for responsiveness?

A Neighborhood to Remember
Staying in this jewel of a cottage made our trip so special. We enjoyed the neighborhood, the neighbors (including our host, Retha), the little neighborhood restaurants and the yard sales as much as we did the time we spent at the Riverwalk. We walked everywhere and felt so at home by the time we finished our four day stay, Retha was a great source of local information and advice. I wouldn't think of going to San antonio without staying in Retha's little cottage!
I go to a very demanding school, so when Spring Break rolled around, I desperately needed it! I stayed in this charming little house for 4 days, and it was wonderful! The house was perfect because it’s located so conveniently in the middle of the arts district- not more then a short walk from the Blue Star Arts Building, the bus stop, multiple little shops & cafés, AND the Alamo! There’s plenty to see and do in San Antonio, and this location provides easy access to it all. I had such a great time! This house provided me just what I needed- a very relaxing little home-away-from-home to unwind in after a rigorous semester. It had SO many great little extras: a full-sized fridge for storing all my food, a very nice fluffy bed, a washer/drier combo for convenience, a large porch to sit & read on, a fenced yard for my dog to stay in, and a pot to make coffee in the morning! I could not be more pleased with my experience and will definitely book this house in the future!
Beautiful home in a quiet garden setting close to everything in
We enjoyed every minute of our stay. The house is beautiful and well-appointed. The master suite bath was fabulous. We spent every morning on the sunny deck in the blooming garden under a lovely pecan tree.
The street was secluded, despite being minutes from the hustle and bustle of downtown. The lively neighbors were welcoming and made us feel at home, giving us updates on free concerts and recommending restaurants just around the corner. Our host was kind and generous and answered all our needs promptly and enthusiastically.
Way beyond what we expected!!!
This house was very clean and roomy. We felt like we were home. I plan to rent again next April.
Good ol' fashioned hospitality!
In this day and age when all of America seems to be part of a giant chain of impersonal businesses, it's refreshing to find an oasis like this! Complete with an old -fashioned front porch! If you want to get away from the impersonal Hiltons and Marriotts to experience the "real" San Antonio, this beautiful home is for you. Artsy and historic, safe and cozy...and Retha is a gem of a hostess and a wealth of information....can't wait to visit again!
