The Most Beautiful View in San Carlos $299 Weekend
San Carlos, Northern Mexico, Mexico
What's Nearby:
Additional Location Information
San Carlos is only 6 hours south of Tucson, Arizona on a VERY SAFE, four-lane divided toll road (about $12 total). Some visitors prefer to fly to Tucson first, rent a car, and then drive to San Carlos. San Carlos is in the "Hassle Free" zone of Sonora, so NO CAR PERMITS are required! If driving is not an option for you, flights are available to Hermosillo, Mexico, about 70 minutes from San Carlos. Car rentals and connecting buses thru Guaymas are available at the airport.
If you drive, you must stop at KM 21 (after the border) and get a visitor pass. It is free for stays up to a week. Otherwise, stays up to 6 months are about $25 per individual. Don't forget your passport! We also recommend a supply of water, as the summer months can get well over 100 degrees.
After traveling across the Sonoran Desert, visitors are rejuvenated at the sight of the sparkling Sea of Cortes and the magnificent Mount Tetakawi. The village of San Carlos is a SAFE and SECURE Mexican gem midway along the Sea of Cortes. The brilliant blue waters of this Pacific paradise host enormous whales, pods of dolphin, and an amazing diversity of fish. Your link to the sea is the San Carlos Marina.
Deep Sea & Sport Fishing boats are ready to catch the big one, and there are numerous dive shops and charters at the marina. Some dive clubs from Arizona are based in San Carlos. Ocean Sports brings divers and snorkelers to the island to "swim with sea lions". Boaters from all over the world use the marina for mooring and vacationing in Mexico.
The Marina features many fine restaurants such as The Embarcadero, Tequilla's, Evie's, and Ruby's Wine Bar. Diners at The Embarcadero and Ruby's enjoy views of the water in a relaxed dining atmosphere. The Five Palms is known for a diverse international menu.
If you prefer to cook your own food and enjoy the view from your own balcony, the Santa Rosa Market in San Carlos is convenient and offers a wide range of choices including excellent cuts of Sonoran beef. New markets in town include Ley's Market and Santa Fe Market (just up the street). Super Mercados such as Sorianas, Ley's, and even Sam's Club/Walmart are about 20 minutes away in Guaymas.
Most people find a car very helpful in San Carlos, but local bus service is available with a stop just outside of the lobby. Service connects from Algodones Beach to Guaymas for about 10 -15 Pesos each way.

Condo 406 at the Marinaterra was perfect. Nicely decorated, large rooms, well stocked kitchen, lots of baths, 2 nice decks. The view of the boats at the marina was great. Walk to the marina in minutes. Private beach area off to the side. The folks at Siesta Realty were great when we needed anything or had questions. Condo was really clean. I own pine River Lodge in Bayfield, CO overlooking a lake and I know a good place when I see one. Thanks for a lovely stay and the fishing was great. Wow all around! We checked around while there and we got the best place to stay at the very best price.

Left on 02/08/2012 for a stay in September 2011
Not the first time I've been to this part of paradise and certainly won't be the last... I just wish it were closer to australia. I spent 3 months here again this year and the condo was home-away-from-home for that period of time. I couldn't have been happier... The amenities were much appreciated, especially the air/con. Lack of an oven in the kitchen made cooking interesting at times, however it wasn't a huge issue. Until I got my own transport, shopping, particularly grocery shopping, was a tad tricky as I was reliant on friends, taxi and/or bus. The Oxo at the corner was very handy though and within walking distance. Location couldn't have been better in every other way, with a view to die for!! I particularly loved the decor of the condo and I would book here again in a heartbeat!!

Thanks Gaye,
We will be adding a larger counter-top oven, soon! There is also a market at the other end of our street, towards the water, about 100 yards away. It has everything from water to fresh vegetables to liquor. Hope to hear back from you soon!
