Description from the manager
Looking to explore the Chianti region of Tuscany with all the comforts of home and more? This accommodation in a Tuscany villa has it all, from a swimming pool to sprawling grounds and all the amenities indoors. One of the owners, who lives on the estate in the family villa, is American and she's furnished this holiday villa in Tuscany to American tastes. So relax! Lounge at this Tuscany vacation villa, take a refreshing bike ride to nearby Certaldo (we highly recommend exploring the Pretorio Palace), or take a day trip to Florence and beyond! There is another villa, Villa Certaldo, and an apartment, La Solaia, right next door.
(500 m2/...5,382 ft2)
This independent villa is situated on a private estate that consists of the owner's residence, another villa (Villa Certaldo) and an apartment (La Solaia), both for rent. This villa is nestled into the side of a hill leading up to the main villa, which sits on the crest of the hill. The outdoor areas are on different levels and separated by a fence, so remain very private. A gravel parking area is conveniently located a few meters from the front entrance, separated by a plot of grass. Views from the house are directed away from the other residences, making this villa private with its own fenced garden. There is an enormous fig tree adjacent to the backyard fence that overlooks the valley. At the front of the house on the ground floor there is a spacious covered terrace with a table and chairs for outdoor dining. A pathway from the terrace leads to the villa's own private swimming pool (open from mid May to mid September 9m x 4m, 1.1m deep). The property is accessed via a gate off of a paved, very lightly traveled country road. The surrounding estate includes a 74-acre nature reserve, populated with wild pheasant, hare, wild boar, hedgehogs, and newly-sited roe deer.
(110 m2/1,184 ft2)
Ground Floor: A path from the parking area leads onto the sidewalk of the front yard of the home, providing same level access to the front door. There is then a staircase that leads up to the first floor on the right. A guest bathroom with a sink, toilet, and shower is located just on the left. The foyer leads directly into the 22 m2 living room, where there are two sofas (one is a sofa-bed suitable for one), an easy chair, fireplace, and a safe behind a portrait on the wall! There is also a large flat screen TV with satellite, a DVD player, and a small laptop computer. The entire house and garden offers wireless internet connection free of charge. The living room, as well as the rest of the house, is decorated throughout with an equestrian theme. An arched doorway leads into the 10 m2 kitchen, equipped with a cook-top, oven, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, American and espresso coffee makers, and a dining table seating four to six. There are settings for 12, along with children's plates and utensils. Large double arched glass doors from the kitchen and living room lead out onto the 13 m2 covered terrace, overlooking the countryside and furnished with a table and chairs for dining. Several steps from the terrace lead down to the swimming pool. The ground floor also has one 10 m2 bedroom with a 160 cm queen-size bed and an ensuite bathroom with a sink, toilet, and shower.
First Floor: Twelve sandstone stairs lead from the foyer to the first floor. The landing has a laundry area with a washer and dryer as well as a sink and iron with ironing board. There are two more bedrooms on this floor. The first 14 m2 bedroom has a 160 cm queen-size bed, a writing desk, and a large window that overlooks the valley. The ensuite bathroom has a sink, toilet, and bathtub with handheld showerhead and skylight. The second 20 m2 bedroom has an extra-long large queen-size bed (175 cm wide x 205 cm long) along with a writing desk and three windows overlooking the valley and garden/swimming pool. The ensuite bathroom has two sinks, a toilet, and shower.

Donna's review of Family-Friendly Villa Rental in Tuscany with P
Absolutely superb!! EVERYTHING exceeded our expectations!
The villa was beautiful, the views magnificent, attention to detail at the property was impeccable. Very comfortable and spotless. The pool was enjoyed very much after hot days in the Tuscan sun. Location was excellent - very easy driving access to many towns. The nearby train in Certaldo was extremely convenient for longer day trips.
The beautiful Tuscan countryside with vineyards and olive groves was so calming, especially while sitting and relaxing on the porch. Also, just a 2-minute walk from the villa was a Catholic church which Elizabeth told us was built in 998 - amazing. Do not miss Certaldo Alto - wonderful ancient part of town.
Jeanne's review of Villa Sella
The villa was amazing and then some! The views are breathtaking, great location, nicely decorated. We could not ask for anything more!
Sitting on the back porch with a glass of wine and watching the world go by was heaven! The villa had everything you could possibly need. Sciano was a great little town and Certaldo was the perfect mix of a hill town, but not too touristy.
The location was great for day trips to Lucca, Siena, and San Gimignano, but our favorite place was Certaldo Alto.
Cheryl's review of Villa Sella
We all had a wonderful time at Villa Sella. It felt like home!
Elizabeth was so helpful and friendly. She was very entertaining and introduced my grandson to her son and he enjoyed spending time with him doing playing video games.
It was very comfortable. We always felt like we were coming back to our home after a day of touring. We also loved the view of the rolling hills of Tuscany from just about every window in the villa. We loved Certaldo and its wonderful restaurants. Pizzeria Maroni was just down the road and the food there was delicious !
Being close to the hill town of Certaldo. It was beautiful and not a lot of tourists know about it which made it so pleasant. We could always get into any restaurant without reservations and the food was delicious!
It was also nice to be close to other hill towns. We rented a car and drove to many of them during our stay.
Kevin's review of Villa Sella
The villa was wonderful, exactly what I imagined a Tuscan villa to be like. And the owner, Elizabeth, was great, as well.
Nearby to Certaldo, a small hill town not overrun by tourists.
Maureen 's review of Villa Sella
Very good! The property was gorgeous.
The location and the view. Also, the privacy of it and the private pool.
The Tuscany area is beautiful! We enjoyed the old town of Certaldo Alto. We enjoyed the wine bar up there and a fabulous resturant!
Jan's review of Villa Sella
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay because the villa was well appointed, clean, and had great views. The pool was open but the weather was too chilly.
Location in Tuscan hill country, close to Florence and Siena.
Small towns to visit and few people.
Corey's review of Villa Sella
We found an enjoyable wine tasting at nearby Tenuta Trociano.
Ron's review of Villa Sella
Villa Sella was the perfect base for our Tuscan visit. Elizabeth and her staff were warm and wonderful hosts, providing everything we spoiled Americans needed to enjoy our visit to the fullest.
While the villa itself was very clean, well put together and luxurious, the terrace and views were simply magical!
We enjoyed exploring the hilltop villages and historic cities during the day such as San Gimignano, Volterra, Monteriggioni, Siena, and Castellina in Chianti--and then finding a good vineyard and grocer in the afternoon to cook ourselves a fine Italian meal back at the villa.
Omali's review of Villa Sella
The overall experience was wonderful.
The view was the best part of the property, along with the peace and quiet.
The mattress could have been more comfortable.
The house was centrally located. The surrounding area was quiet and well-maintained.
Anthony's review of Villa Sella
Amazing. We had a wonderful time and LOVED the property. We will definetly use RentVillas again.
The property itself was just lovely. The house was beautiful and the scenery was breathtaking. We loved the back porch and the view while sitting outside. The house itself was so well-planned and we wanted for nothing. The owner, Elizabeth, was so accomodating and pleasurable to deal with. She made our stay outstanding and was always available if we needed anything.
We loved that we were able to drive to so many Tuscan towns and were not far from any of them.
Joyce's review of Villa Sella
Villa Sella is very comfortable. We spent most of our time enjoying the porch in the early mornings and late evenings. Due to cooler temperatures in October, we were unable to take advantage of the pool. Bedrooms were great for 3 couples and we had plenty of room to ourselves and great common space to share together.
Tranquility. Beautiful view, comfortable surroundings. We enjoyed having the services of a local chef for a wonderful dinner at home.
Easy access to grocery shopping in Poggibonsi. The old town of Certaldo on top of the hill, accessed by funicular, was lovely. The beauty of the area is awe-inspiring.
Robert 's review of Villa Sella
It was wonderful in every way and it exceeded our expectations.
The views, the terrace, the modernity of the home, the helpful landlord, the swimming pool, and the washer/dryer.
The cooking school was the highlight of the trip, the hill towns were amazing, and Siena was fantastic.
Patsy's review of Villa Sella
The terrace and bedrooms.
We were well-placed for visiting Tuscany's major cities.
Olwyn's review of Villa Sella
We had an amazing week at Villa Sella. The home was the perfect villa in the Tuscan countryside. Elizabeth was a great host who carefully planned and thought of everything. The home was beautifully furnished and had everything we could possibly need for the week.
Spacious, fully equipped, and beautifully decorated home with a lot of amenities, inside and outside. The private, good-sized pool overlooking the hills was a real bonus and we used it every day to compensate for the summer heat. Elizabeth provided use of a local cell phone and bikes which were helpful.
Peaceful countryside setting overlooking Tuscany hills...very little traffic--pedestrian and vehicles.
John's review of Villa Sella
Excellent. I wish we had had more time at the villa but we had so many other wonderful places to see.
I recommend it highly. Would go again.
The view, the proprietor, the pool, the location.
I loved the rural area, the people, and their lifestyle.
Gerhardt's review of Villa Sella
The villa's spaciousness and the beautiful views from the patio and master bedroom.
The beauty of the landscape and the nearby hill towns.
Gary's review of Villa Sella
A very comfortable, modern, relaxing and enjoyable property that easily accommodated a family of seven, including a 21 month-old child.
Everything, especially the three large bedrooms with ensuite baths; the modern, well-equipped kitchen; the dining veranda with country view; the private swimming pool; and the modern television, computer, and WiFi systems.
We visited the towns of Certaldo, Volterra, San Gimignano, and Castellina in Chianti as well as toured an olive oil factory and cheese farm. We sampled wines at Cennatoio, Fontodi, and Fonterutoli. We also attended Certaldo's annual Mercantia festival.
Becky's review of Villa Sella
We stayed in the PERFECT Tuscan home high on a hill with surrounding views of vineyards, olive trees, cypress, early morning mist, and fantastic sunrises. Our property's owner was MOST helpful yet totally non-intrusive. The architect/owner of the property has attended to EVERY detail of this home, so it is homey, intimate, cozy, while being elegant and classically "Tuscan" in color and design. Three lovely full bedrooms with terrific bathrooms and fine views.
The property was impeccably designed and maintained with perfect "Tuscan" views.
Neat and clean and beautifully appointed, we felt we were living a dream of what Tuscan life should be. Quiet, picturesque, lovely, we felt at home the second we arrived. We had a wonderful week in the Tuscan countryside. Our villa was nestled into the country yet close to all the destinations to which we wanted to go. We could drive or take the train, which was only ten minutes from our villa.
On windy yet well-maintained roads, we could step outside our door and walk to a little, ancient church, vineyards, olive and cypress groves. We were also close to the town of Certaldo, from which we could take the train to Florence, Siena, Venice, and other destinations.
We felt as it we were in the heart of Tuscany and in the country, yet conveniently close to
everything we might need in terms of transportation.
John's review of Villa Sella
The property overlooked a beautiful Tuscan countryside. We ate outside several nights (we hired a cook 2 nights and did take-out from a nearby restaurant, as well). The kids loved the pool. It was pretty hot the week we rented and a dip in the pool each night was great.
The view. Elizabeth, the owner, was also great.
Certaldo was a really neat little town. No crowds.
Dale's review of Villa Sella
We had a fantastic time. The countryside was incredible and our host was wonderful.
The peaceful surroundings and the beautiful view.
The vineyards and olive trees surrounding the area.
Fran's review of Villa Sella
We had a great time and the owner was excellent and very helpful. She gave us many good suggetions.
The location was great.
The beautiful scenery.
Larry's review of Villa Sella
Outstanding! The location, views, proximity to Certaldo with the railway station, and the property and amenities are great. Elizabeth was wonderful.
It had all the conveniences of home in a beautiful Tuscan setting.
We visited Lucca, Pisa, Siena, Volterra, San Gimignano, Florence, wineries and vineyards and all were convenient to the location. The train station in Certaldo made our trip to Florence very easy without the stress of driving. But most of all the warmth of the people of the area and great local resturants and food.
Roger's review of Villa Sella
Excellent--we went April 7-14 and the weather was mostly overcast, chilly or raining so we blame the time of year. But we had fun!!
Our hostess was excellent--whatever we needed she attended to the matter. The villa was well equipped. We had fires every night and the villa supplied the wood for free. The location makes it easy to travel to San Gimignano, Siena, Volterra Monteriggione (fortified hamlet), and Florence.
Peaceful and typical Tuscany--rolling hills full of olive trees and vineyards.
Mary Ann's review of Villa Sella
Villa Sella was everything, and more, as it had been described on the RentVillas website. We were a family of six, five adults and one child. We went sightseeing almost every day and came home to relax by the fireplace, have a glass of wine, and listen to the provided CDs. We wish we could have stayed longer.
Check in and out was a breeze.
The location was very beautiful and the home was decorated in very good taste. Elizabeth thought of every little detail. The bedrooms and bathrooms were nicely sized as were the living areas and kitchen. The back porch looked out on fields and was a delightful spot to sit and relax on days when it was warm we were there in March
The villages of Certaldo and Certaldo Alto were charming. We spent a lot of time there. We all took the cooking class from Giuseppina and had a great time. I would definitely recommend that to others.
Carla's review of Villa Sella
Fantastic. Loved staying at Villa Sella.
Very homey feel. Everything is modern and beautifully decorated. Host is also brilliant and extremely nice and helpful.
The town of Certaldo, which is a 5-min drive, is beautiful and has amazing local restaurants!
Mike's review of Villa Sella
It was very nice.
The fireplace in the living room was nice for those chilly October nights. And the "can do" spirit of Elizabeth and her family was much appreciated when we had a car issue.
Biking and driving through the Chianti vineyards in the fall.
Esther's review of Villa Sella
The villa is lovely. We were very comfortable and enjoyed our time there.
The decor is very nice and the setting is lovely.
We enjoyed attending the cooking school in Certaldo with Giuseppina. That was probably the hightlight of our time there.
Nicole's review of Villa Sella
Wonderful! It was like walking into a painting. Elizabeth was great! We arrived later than expected due to flight delays and she ordered food for us from a close by pizzeria. We had our first meal on the candlelit veranda.
The views and veranda were fabulous. We loved lounging by the pool and the weather was warm enough for swimming. The location was perfect for quick trips to Certaldo and longer day trips to Florence, Siena, and Volterra. The villa was clean and ready for use.
The market in Certaldo and walks in the vineyard.
Kim's review of Villa Sella
The villa was very pretty and well situated for enjoying the gorgeous views. It was well appointed and had great modern amenities.
We loved enjoying the evenings on the back porch with easy access to the kitchen and living rooms. Having the Internet was a great plus for planning excursions.
The old city of Certaldo is a welcome change from the busier tourist sites. Enjoy a wonderful meal at Taverna Antica Fonte at the top of the hill. Nearby, the pizzeria is wonderful and inviting and has a pasta tasting option that we enjoyed very much.
Lynne 's review of Villa Sella
The amenities and view were better than we expected. Better than the photos. The pool was larger and cleaner than expected. The view from the bedrooms and deck is spectacular.
Location, view, pool, privacy, fans, reading material, Internet access, helpfulness and accessibility of Elizabeth, the owner.
We loved Certaldo Alto! Once you learn your way onto the main road, the location is great. Secluded, but accessible.
Alexander's review of Villa Sella
We had a serene, highly pleasant time while at the villa, and were within easy drives of the many Tuscan sites we wished to visit.
The owner's anticipation and awareness of travelers' desires made this stay outstanding in our series of villa visits in several countries. Everything we needed was there.
The immediate area is not Tuscany's most scenic, but we met some fascinating, warm, and creative people, in particular the culinary specialist Giuseppina Pizzolato and her family. We were delighted to have her prepare our first-night dinner at the villa and then to take a cooking class at her nicely equipped shop.
Anne's review of Villa Sella
We loved Villa Sella. We could not have asked for a more peaceful spot, and the views were truly breathtaking. The house itself was perfect for our family, and the bathrooms were the best we found in Italy. Elizabeth is a gracious and very helpful host, and was there to help us whenever we need it.
The location was perfect. Siena was only 40 minutes, Florence just over an hour. We loved the views, especially from the porch in the morning, or at dusk. We had our meals outside whenever possible. The bathrooms and showers were wonderful, right down to the fluffy towels and soaps provided.
One night, we heard a lot of barking, but it was from across the valley.
San Gimignano is a small hillside Tuscan that is only about 15 minutes away. There is also a winery close to San Gimignano which has tours and great wine tasting. Siena was close--40 km. Our favorite nearby village was Barbarino Val D'Elsa, which is about 20 minutes away. Wander through, and stop at one of the great restaurants.
Nicole's review of Villa Sella
The view and the quiet at night and in the morning.
Great area for day trips.
Syntha's review of Villa Sella
My husband and I LOVED Villa Sella. The location was perfect for every day trip we planned and the house itself was so comfortable. We were located far enough away from the street that we never heard cars but we also didn't feel like we were in the middle of nowhere. It is tough to get a feel for a location when looking for a house in another country--and we can say we can't imagine we ever would have done better. Great kitchen and perfect for cooking breakfast and dinners. Elizabeth, the owner, was so helpful with explaining everything to us and she had all of the basics that anyone would ever want--from towels and paper goods to kitchen supplies.
All of it. Sounds trite but it is true. First class. My husband's only complaint about the entire trip was that we didn't spend enough time at Villa Sella. The views were off the charts. People warned us about the hard beds but our's was great; we've never slept so well and the sheets were amazing! We asked if Elizabeth could pre-stock for us and she had it all done perfectly, including fresh-picked apricots. She really went out of her way. She'll even lend you a local cell phone to use while at the villa so you don't have to use yours--and she has her number on it if you need to reach her! The TV has American channels and she has tons of movies in English as well as a library. We didn't have any bugs, but there were screens in the windows, anyway.
The pool was incredible and private. The views are incredible from all bedrooms and from the living area. The back deck over looks the valley--just amazing. Certaldo was a 10-minute drive and has everything you could need. Also, it's really easy to pop on the train to Florence or Siena.
Luisa's review of Villa Sella
Villa Sella and the owner, Elizabeth, were a delight! Our family of five was very comfortable. We used the pool every day and the outdoor seating.
The views were amazing. The inside was very comfortable and the bathrooms were quite spacious.
A bit of problem with bugs one day, but we realized this was inevitable as we were in the country. Elizabeth took care of the problem right away.
The grounds were beautiful. Lots of local restaurants nearby.
Patrice's review of Villa Sella
This was probably one of the best vacation we've ever had.
Everything was just perfect. The villa is well-located and not far from the autostrada. It had everything we needed and the most wonderful view to which to awaken!
The view was like a gigantic patchwork. All those shades of green were so relaxing.
Andy's review of Villa Sella
The experience could not have been better. It is everything all other reviewers have claimed it is.
Location, peacefulness, surrounding beauty of the countryside
The beds. It took a few days to get used to sleeping on a spring mattress, especially after flying for 16 hours and then driving for another 4.
Valerie's review of Villa Sella
We had a fantastic time from the moment we arrived. All went very smoothly from our car pick-up in Florence to our arrival at Villa Sella's idyllic setting. GPS is recommended. Elizabeth was so welcoming and helpful in showing us around the villa and giving us restaurant tips. The villa is really well-located for day trips to many of the gorgeous hill towns, including San Gimignano, Volterra, the Chianti towns, Siena, Pisa and so on. It was hard to leave!
The villa itself is very comfortable and spacious. We were three adults and one child. It is nicely decorated, with a wonderful covered terrace overlooking the valley. Stunning views and very peacful. Lots of happy birds, and some incredible firefly shows! Also close enough to civilization (Sciano only a couple of minutes by car; Certaldo maybe 10 minutes) for easy access to restaurants and grocery shopping.
The gorgeous scenery: one rolling hill after another and towns of Tuscany. San Gimagnano is very close and we went there for lunch a couple of days.
John's review of Villa Sella
Very relaxing and enjoyable.
The view, the modern amenities, the pool and outside area.
There was nothing we didn't like.
Anne's review of Villa Sella
Heavenly and perfect!
The views of Tuscany from every room in Villa Sella
We were happy with everything.
Such beauty. We visited so many beautiful places.
Mary's review of Villa Sella
Absolutely amazing! Elizabeth was outstanding. She hooked us up with Giuseppina and her son, Simone. They cooked us a meal in our villa. Highly recommended. Guiseppina's brother's wine was one of the best wines we drank in Italy.
Private. Beautiful views. Personal touches, such as laundry soap, dishwasher soap, scented bath soap, hairdryers. Elizabeth
was so accommodating. She was available 24 hrs a day.
Small kitchen. We called it a one-person kitchen. It was well supplied. Breaker kept kicking out when we had more than one major
Beautiful views. Lovely walking areas. Wildlife.
So relaxing. We hated to leave.
Cheryl's review of Villa Sella
Our stay at Villa Sella was everything we could have asked for. Elizabeth, the hostess, was super helpful, the villa was very comfortable for 5 people, and even very accommodating for our toddler.
We thoroughly enjoyed the grounds and tranquil setting...especially the views from the kitchen and living rooms.
The stone stairs inside the house were a little cold and dangerous for a toddler.
The short drives to so many great sights - Certaldo main square, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, Volterra, etc.
Sharon's review of Villa Sella
Overall, our visit was wonderful. The villa itself is beautiful. The scenery is spectacular.
The view and location.
We loved the property. I would say the only irritations we had involved the clothes dryer and the power going off on occasion when we used certain appliances at the same time.
The scenery was breathtaking.
Barbara's review of Villa Sella
Better than therapy. Really enjoyed the escape from life.
We appreciated the view, the quiet, and the amenities. Elizabeth and Adi were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the day trips that they put together for us to choose from.
Deborah's review of Villa Sella
Perfect! Villa Sella was incredibly charming and just what you imagine a villa in Tuscany would be. We had everything we needed and more. Incredibly charming and private.
Everything! This was a return visit to Tuscany for us and Villa Sella far exceeded our expectations. The layout of the house was perfect for us. We explored the region and were always excited to get back to the house in the afternoon and enjoy the villa and the private terrace in the evening. There is a private pool for the villa and plenty of parking. The views are breathtaking. We woke in the morning to the beautiful views of the vineyards and rolling hills with hot air balloons gliding through the horizon. It was so convenient to have a washer and dryer and a fully functional kitchen. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable with a full bathroom in each bedroom. Everything we needed for a wonderful week in Tuscany. Elizabeth was warm and welcoming.
Beautiful serene views from the home. Close proximity to everything: Siena, Florence, Chianti region.
Kim's review of Villa Sella
We had a great time. The villa was just perfect for us and the view was spectacular. The owner was extremely nice and gave us recommendations for restaurants in the area which were excellent.
The views, the peace and quiet, the spacious rooms, the proximity to the train station, grocery stores and restaurants.
It rained while we were there and the house felt damp inside. I think a dehumidifier would have helped.
Close to shopping and restaurants.
Tim's review of Villa Sella
Simply amazing! I have been all over Europe, never to Italy until this trip. What greeted us was truly the single greatest vacation my wife and I have ever enjoyed. From the countryside Villa, to the surrounding geography, to the food and the people, we just thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Your suggestion of Villa Sella was perfect. Thank you for your consistent, professional assistance as well as your personal interest in our trip. We will not hesitate recommending your services or using them again as we plan for future vacations.
Linda's review of Villa Sella
We had a wonderful time, great location, loved the views from the porch and the upstairs bedrooms. We spent all our time on the porch when not traveling. The men enjoyed the pool. Elizabeth was a great help and a pleasure to meet. Glad that the villa was supplied so well. She had thought of everything to make our visit enjoyable.
Location and it was CLEAN.
Mattress are not like U.S. My back missed the pillow top.
Beautiful, this time of year the farmers were plowing the fields and I love the smell of fresh earth. It was wonderful to have ripe figs to pick in the morning, delicious.
Huw's review of Villa Sella
Very enjoyable week in a well located comfortable villa that met all of our needs.
Location. Quiet. Very pleasant and helpful owner.
The wasps and mosquitoes.
Lovely small towns and beautiful scenery.
Cheryl's review of Villa Sella
Outstanding overall experience.
Tranquil with much to do in adjacent towns.
Villa owner was an excellent resource and attentive to all of our needs.
Neighbouring dogs barked late at night and early morning
The towns were a joy.
Certaldo had a wonderful cooking school.
Florence was a short train ride away.
Local restaurants were wonderful
Susan's review of Villa Sella
Wonderful! A beautiful home and owner, Elizabeth.
The setting and the views are stunning. The home's restful beauty and comfort.
As we all enjoy cooking and ate in a lot, there were a few things in the kitchen that could be improved. Sharp knives, better quality pots, an electric kettle or improved stove-top kettle, large teapot.
Certaldo is near and we drove to many delightful villages close by.
Ann's review of Villa Sella
It exceeded all expectations. The villa is comfortable and welcoming with an inspiring view. It is ideally situated offering both access to a charming little town and a sense of privacy. Elizabeth, the host, was gracious and warm and went above and beyond to attend to our every need.
The spectacular view by the pool was obstructed by bushes and the lounge chairs could be more comfortable.
Piazzera Maroni and the Moderno bakery - both of which we became "regulars" at within days of our arrival.
The area is picturesque beyond words. Certaldo Alto is a must.
Kathleen's review of Villa Sella
Very good experience -- great property and no problems during our stay.
Location, views, pool. Wireless and Netbook. Cleaning and fresh linens weekly. Washer-dryer.
Lots of bugs, but that's summer in the countryside. The dryer doesn't work very well so don't plan on doing lots of big loads of laundry. Lighting in bathrooms too dim.
Good starting point for day trips to Florence, Siena, Pisa, Lucca, Volterra, San Gimignano, etc. Beautiful vineyards and rolling hills throughout.
Charles's review of Villa Sella
The setting - being able to leave windows open all the time - having Elizabeth so close and ready to respond to our questions.
Difficulty in using energy efficient appliances - also the kitchen was quite small.
Pastry shop in Certaldo - ability to visit various hill towns - I had not heard about Certaldo Alto but it was a fun place to visit.
Patty's review of Villa Sella
This centrally located three bedroom villa was the perfect home base for our family gathering. Each of the three couples has their own bedroom and bathroom and shared a very comfortable common area. Elizabeth was the perfect hostess and helped us make our stay very enjoyable. The location was ideal for venturing out into all of Tuscany. It was close to a major highway so we could easily get to Cinque Terre and Pisa to the north or even venture further south to Montalcino, Pienza, Montepulciano, and Cortona on a day trip.
The view was spectacular. My husband is a photographer and took advantage of the views from the terrace overlooking the Val D'Elsa, especially at sunset.
It was cold while we were there in the first week of April. I don't think the heat had been turned on in a while so it was very cold inside.
The villa sits overlooking a very picturesque valley. We travelled all over and around every turn it was another beautiful scene. It is close to the town of Certaldo where the train stops. You can take it to Siena or Florence easily for day trips without a car. Or you can travel by car to many of the hill towns on day trips. We were able to visit the Chianti area one day, San Gimignano and Volterra another day, the hill towns south of Siena another day, and Cinque Terre a final day.
Scottie's review of Villa Sella
We had a wonderful experience at Villa Sella. Elizabeth was a fabulous host. The photos of the property villa on your web site were completely accurate. Beautiful Villa and surrounding property.
I loved the views from the upstairs bedroom - it was absolutely beautiful. The Villa was spacious and had all the modern conveniences from home. It was nice to have a washing machine and dryer. The villa was beautifully decorated as well.
There was nothing that I did not like about the Villa Sella and nothing that I would change. We absolutely loved it.
So many small towns - Villa Sella was centrally located and we could drive to so many of the small towns for day trips and to Florence.
Candace's review of Villa Sella
All I can say that covers everything is WOW! The views are breathtaking, the rooms are large and comfortable the location is ideal and the property owner accessible and engaging.
It's the perfect location for day trips. We did Pisa, Lucca, San Gimignano, Siena, Florence, Greve and Volterra during our weeks stay.
Amy's review of Villa Sella
Wonderful experience. Elizabeth was very gracious and accommodating and the villa was perfect.
Location, view and upgraded interior.
Perfectly situated to tour Tuscan villages and Chianti region.
Louise's review of Villa Sella
The house was perfect. Everything was was in excellent condition. The kitchen was well stocked.
I can't think of a thing.
The rural quality. We went to church on Sunday in a very old church two doors down from our house. Just charming.
Paulette's review of Villa Sella
Fabulous! The villa was lovely, picture-perfect view out the back of the villa. It was truly serene.
The peace it generated. It was quiet with an absolutely unbelievable view out the back of the villa.
Unfortunately, the cool weather set in later in our stay, and we did not have heat. We were warned there would be an additional charge, but the villa owner said she would be fined if the heat was turned on. She did accommodate with kindling and wood to make a fire, which we did, but it was uncomfortable at night especially, with temperatures in the 40's, and we did not come prepared for the temperatures to drop so low.
We were in the countryside of Tuscany, which also gave us a sense of peace and tranquility as well as being away from the big city and tourists like ourselves!
Kate's review of Villa Sella
Villa Sella made our Tuscany vacation. Elizabeth was very helpful in giving us advice on what to do, restaurants, etc. The view from the patio was amazing and we spent most of our evenings out there.
The outdoor area.
The wine country and Florence was easy to access via train.
Jennifer's review of Villa Sella
This place was fabulous! Elizabeth has thought of everything and didn't hesitate to get us what we needed! I chose Villa Sella because of the reviews and I was not disappointed. Everything that everyone said was true. I only wished we had more time to spend at the villa. Take Elizabeth's recommendations about where to eat. I highly recommend Villa Sella!
I would have to say the view. All of the amenities were a plus too.
I liked everything!
The peacefulness and tranquility. They were harvesting grapes when we were there and it was fascinating to watch them do it by hand. You truly feel as if you are living amongst the locals.
Laura's review of Villa Sella
Outstanding - the villa, amenities, property, views were incredible.
The terrace and views, the private pool, the attention and care from Elizabeth the owner.
Nothing - it far exceeded our expectations and we have stayed in several villas throughout Italy.
The proximity to so many great towns, the market day in Certaldo, the friendly people in Certaldo, stores bakeries, restaurants all within a convenient distance
Linda's review of Villa Sella
A wonderful experience except for last 4 days, the weather was too hot! The owner Elizabeth has been very helpful.
Well-equipped, washer and dryer, bathrooms, children liked the Internet.
The kitchen is well-equipped, would have been better if the area is bigger and the stove is stronger. Wished the pool had been larger.
The bakery, the pizzeria...the tranquility
Rodney's review of Villa Sella
The fact that it was so private and had its own swimming pool.
the ants in the bathroom.
Very close to all significant sights.
Susan's review of Villa Sella
The property was as described on the website and the owner could not have been more helpful and accommodating. She was wonderful and even met us at the local butcher to help us translate what we needed.
The views are wonderful and the property is located far enough off the main road to maintain the peace and quiet of the countryside. The owner maintains everything in great condition and although has decorated in the Tuscan flair, has also provided for the way Americans like to travel comfort-wise. Things such as a full washer and dryer were great perks. The pool and backyard area were more than ample and were private as well. The animal preserve is a great place to walk and everyone took full advantage of exploring it. The location of the villa is also excellent for day trips to most places in Tuscany from Firenze to Montalcino and out to the coast.
No dislikes but the only regret was that we were not able to access the WIFI the owner was adding the following week. We did have access to the internet though. The kitchen is a little tight if six people planned on eating in it but we ate all meals outside on the patio.
In our group we had marathoners, bicyclists, horse riders, wine lovers, and explorers. None were disappointed.
Rodger's review of Villa Sella
It was WONDERFUL!
The close proximity to so many different villages and Florence.
Kurt's review of Villa Sella
Incredible. It was a perfect home away from home!
Privacy and the fact that it had everything needed to be comfortable - washer-dryer with laundry soap, dishwasher with soap provided, spacious bedrooms and bathrooms, movies, cable, phone etc. The owner has thought of everything.
The ease of getting into town. The view from the porch. Cooking classes at Cucina Giuseppina.
Steve's review of Villa Sella
After reading the property reviews we had high expectations. They were all met or exceeded. The owners are very engaging and went our of their way to get us properly oriented. They were ready with explanations and suggestions when asked, but left us to ourselves which we appreciated. We also want to compliment our travel consultant from Rentvillas, who went our of her way to help us with planning our trip. She was invaluable to us, even helping us with an issue over a weekend when she "just happened" to pick up our email.
We loved the peace and tranquility of the property as well as the marvelous views. Also enjoyed the smell of lavender after a fall rain--from the lavender bushed on the grounds. We also enjoyed dining on the very comfortable loggia with its marvelous views of the hills of Tuscany.
What is not to love about this property?
We enjoyed the pace of life, olives being harvested from the many nearby olive groves, and the beauty of the surroundings. San Gimignano and Volterra are not to be missed.
Helena's review of Villa Sella
We had a wonderful time. We felt like the villa was our home away from home. I would say that this was the best vacation we've ever had. The villa owner, Elizabeth was fantastic. She was always available to assist us.
The view was fabulous. We enjoyed morning walks. The location was convenient to travel to various areas such as Luca, Pisa, Siena, and Chianti country. The villa itself was very comfortable, equipped with a TV, DVD player, washer and dryer, full kitchen. We enjoyed feeding Bardot, the horse. Also, being Catholic, we loved having a church just a short walk away.
There was nothing we did not like about the property.
We enjoyed historical sights, the food, the wine, the view of the Tuscan hills.
Robert's review of Villa Sella
Great time! The location provides very central access to all Tuscany highlights...the farthest we had to drive was Lucca...approx. 45 miles...most locations were less than 20 mile drives.
The villa sits atop a hill 600' above sea level, so provides wonderful view of the valley and opposite hilltops...all with vineyards, villas and olive groves. Since the owner is an X-pat American, all amenities are 'just like home'...even HD TV Fox News! and internet access.
No downside that I can identify.
The location provides very central access to all Tuscany highlights...the farthest we had to drive was Lucca...approx. 45 miles...most locations were less than 20 mile drives. There are a number of local 'pizzerias' win minutes of the villa...or more upscale restaurants win 2-3 miles in downtown Certaldo or Certaldo Alto...so, no shortage of good food and wine!
Cheryl's review of Villa Sella
Villa Sella is truly an amazing villa, and the host, Elizabeth, is a wonderful villa owner and goes far out of her way to ensure your stay is comfortable. I would recommend this villa to anyone; it is centrally located to visit all the surrounding areas in Tuscany.
The villa had everything to offer, a well equipped kitchen to prepare meals, the bathrooms are very spacious, laundry facilities and a beautiful patio to drink wine on every night!!
I truly cannot say a bad thing about this villa!!
The view, when you wake up the first thing you see is vineyards below you!!
Carol's review of Villa Sella
It was great, Elizabeth was very helpful. The cooking class she sent us to was really fun. We did have some rain so didn't get to use the pool very much. She did bring us firewood, so we could have a fire on a few cold nights.
Very modern, all the convenience of home, close to most things. Day trips easy from here.
Need better lighting in the bathrooms.
The view, location, centrally located for the day trips.
Kay's review of Villa Sella
It was an amazing week. The house exceeded our expectations.
It is hard to begin - the view was incredible. The bedrooms were very comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed. The living room was very comfortable - we curled up at night after a wonderful day sightseeing and watched movies. The terrace was superb. Having the owner on site was a plus -- Elizabeth and her husband were very attentive and helpful. I could go on and on!
There were a few insects around but that was due to the warm weather they had just had. Was not too much of a bother at all.
The scenery and countryside are amazing. The neighboring towns of Certaldo and Poggibonsi Nord had stores and supermarkets for food shopping, which helped us settle right in.
Jim's review of Villa Sella
We had high expectations and they were all met or exceeded.
The location and view were stunning, we were within easy driving distance of so many wonderful places.
Without window coverings I felt a little exposed taking a shower in the upstairs bathroom overlooking the parking area.
Everywhere you looked and everywhere you went there were beautiful old buildings or towns. We didn't even make it up to old Certaldo because we wanted to see soo many other things, but also wanted to spend lots of time relaxing at the villa.
Joan's review of Villa Sella
We were very comfortable from the minute we arrived. The house lived up to our expectations with its gorgeous views, and modern set-up. The owner has thought of everything to make guests comfortable.
The house was perfect and we loved the pool.
We liked everything.
The shopkeepers in Certaldo were so nice, and patient with us. The town is so cute. The countryside and hills are so bucolic and restful.
Susan's review of Villa Sella
Wonderful. Beautiful views, beautiful house, marvellously well equipped with everything we needed.
The view was sensational. Sitting on the loggia looking across the valley and having dinner was magical
Mosquitoes are a problem that needed heavy duty insect repellent .
Fantastic small hill towns with magical atmosphere
Barbara's review of Villa Sella
We had a wonderful time at this house. Everything was perfect. The owner could not be nicer and more helpful. She has taken great care to think of everything that one would need when renting a house. We enjoyed the pool every day. Ate outside on the porch for every meal. It was great!
The house and the views. The house is very well designed with well done bedrooms and baths. The kitchen was very well equipped. Beautiful area with wonderful views.
We loved visiting the hill towns, Siena and Colle di Val d'Elsa.
Jeanmarie's review of Villa Sella
Wonderful. The house was great with beautiful bedrooms and gorgeous views. The location was well situated to get around easily. The owner was very helpful with any problems that arose and gave useful suggestions.
The location was great. It was easily accessible to all the surrounding towns. The views were spectacular. We liked being on a country road - the boys were able to ride the bikes that were provided and jump into the pool. Perfect end to a day.
Easy to get around to various sites and it was easy to go to Florence if you felt like battling the traffic. The owner provided us with a list of restaurants in the area and each one was a wonderful experience. I urge guests to take advantage of this and not to bother to find your own, you will miss out on a fabulous dining experience!!!
Sue's review of Villa Sella
Our experience at Villa Sella was wonderful. The villa is exceptional. Elizabeth is a marvellous hostess. The location is great.
Everything! It is wonderfully appointed with every amenity one could imagine. The sundeck overlooking the wonderful views and the fabulous pool are both marvellous.
Nothing. We had read about a privacy issue with the neighboring villa, with being able to see into the property, but that is not an issue at all, as there is now a very discreet but complete divider between the two properties. We had total privacy.
Its a lovely area. Its a bit of drive - about 40 minutes to Florence, but being located in the middle of Florence, Pisa and Siena was wonderful. Also, San Gimignano is a terrific adventure and only minutes away.
Michael's review of Villa Sella
Magical experience, even better than the beautiful pictures would indicate. Very comfortable accommodations near a wonderful Tuscan hill town that is well preserved and overlooked by most tourists !!
Seclusion, decor, view and private pool were all wonderful aspects of the property. A Tuscan experience with an appeal to American comforts and amenities
Nothing major... bicycles need to be upgraded a bit.
Local town of Certaldo and proximity to other hilltown tourist destinations.
Miles's review of Villa Sella
The photos and descriptions were quite accurate and the owner was quite accommodating and eager to make our stay memorable.
Location, view and surrounding area.
Somewhat close to the owner's other rental property and could hear guests during meals on the portico.
Close to town to shop for fresh food and take train to Florence.
Crystal's review of Villa Sella
The week in Tuscany was thoroughly enjoyable and this villa was a wonderful place to unwind after sightseeing. We have a large family and we were very comfortable, and there were plenty of dishes and towels. We particularly enjoyed the outside space, including lounging around by the pool. Unfortunately, we were a bit too early in the year to enjoy the pool.
Waking up to the most amazing view over the Tuscany countryside. Also, Villa Sella is set up for all ages - it is truly a home from home with everything that you need for a family. We had toddlers and teenagers and there were games, toys, movies, music, etc. for a wide range of ages and tastes. The owners were wonderful as well and made us feel right at home.
I honestly can't think of anything that we didn't like.
The villa is extremely well situated for sightseeing between Florence and Pisa. Each day we drove less than an hour and a half and had plenty to see and do. The smaller walled cities of San Gimignano and Volterra were our favourites, along with Siena.
Christine's review of Villa Sella
Our stay was fabulous. The owners were terrific--always available to answer questions and help in anyway they could. If we ever have the chance to travel to Tuscany again we would definitely stay at Villa Sella.
Villa Sella was HOME. Totally comfortable and the VIEWS were magnificent. There are DVD's and CD's, travel books and a wonderful Satellite TV with English stations. The kitchen and bathrooms were well stocked. I wish we had been there when the pool was open - it was still quite cool in April - because the pool and the pool area are perfect.
Can't think of a thing.
The views were beautiful. We had a GPS that took us through back roads that seemed like someones driveway and it was amazing.
Richard's review of Villa Sella
A beautiful home a well-appointed country villa estate with a spectacular view of the Tuscan hills. A helpful and welcoming host couple who made every effort to allow us to feel at home.
The home was a beautifully restored and converted outbuilding with great views, spacious bedrooms, and an outside dining area that was delightful.
Nothing to dislike.
Quiet, agricultural area close enough to Florence but closer to smaller towns with ancient centers that were very much worth exploring in their own right.
Lisa's review of Villa Sella
It was truly a gem, and we would return in a second!
Renting Villa Sella was our favorite part of our Italian vacation which also included stays in some cities. Being able to come "home" and relax after a day of sightseeing and exploration was wonderful. The house was truly a home - comfortable, well-furnished and relaxing. We were travelling with 2 teenagers, and the fact that they could just hang out and watch TV - a wonderful TV! - allowed a down-time that is not possible in a hotel. The property owners could not have been more helpful, as they answered every question graciously and even allowed us to use their computer to check train schedules, etc. The kitchen was very well-appointed and made it very easy to return each evening and make a simple dinner.
This has nothing to do with the property itself, but we were sorry that, because we were visiting in late November, when we returned each evening it was already dark and chilly, so we did not have the chance to enjoy the terrace or views as much as we would have liked. Other than that, there was really nothing that we did not like. Any idiosyncrasies were well explained i.e., how to use the washer and dryer, heat, so we were not taken by surprise.
The views! We did a lot of driving, and around every turn we marvelled at the views, villas, animals, etc. Certaldo was charming, and our host gave us some local restaurant recommendations that were great.
Ken's review of Villa Sella
Outlook, full Satellite coverage and English stations, comfortable lounge seating.
The kitchen was too small to dine in, no electric jug, power failed and required resetting.
Close to many attractions
Ronald's review of Villa Sella
Our experience at Villa Sella was way above our hopes and expectations - which were high to begin with! Many thanks to the owners and to the staff of Rentvillas for helping us experience a vacation that was as near to perfect as you can get!
The villa was exceptionally clean and well-maintained, and wonderfully appointed. The owners are superb hosts! And the view is spectacular!
There is very little to be critical about! The only problem we had was with some sewer gas smell in the guest bath.
The surrounding area is wonderful. Sciano and Certaldo are delights, as is the proximity to San Gimignano. I especially appreciated the fact that we had the feel we were out in the Tuscan countryside! Read more
Response from Rentvillas.com - 11/04/2007
The owner had this fixed immediately; the problem was that no one had used the shower, and the water had become stagnant in the pipes.
Linda's review of Villa Sella
I would definitely highly recommend either Villa Sella or Villa Certaldo which is on the same property. I would say that the Villa was one of the highlights of our trip to Italy.
The house itself is very nice and is immaculately clean, the view from the back porch is incredible and the owners are very friendly and helpful. We also enjoyed eating outside on the back porch.
The beds were very firm, although it didn't seem to disturb my sleep at all. We have travelled in Europe several times, and I realize that firm beds is just part of the European experience.
The view is incredible! We liked being out in the country and away from city noises. We also enjoyed being very close to a church that we walked to on Sunday morning. The location was convenient for making day trips throughout Tuscany. Certaldo is a small town which is unaffected by tourism. We enjoyed going in to the bakery, meat market and grocery store and living like a local for a week.
Monica's review of Villa Sella
The photos do not come close to capturing the beauty, peacefulness and luxury of the villa. It is truly spectacular. We will recommend to all! The owner is an amazing hostess. She has created simultaneously a luxurious and homey environment. She was available to us at any time of the day for questions or recommendations.
It is difficult to single out just a few things, because it was all so spectacular. From the moment you drive on to the property, the grounds are beautiful. The villa is so fresh and open, beautifully decorated, windows everywhere looking on to amazing views, state of the art kitchen, even nice bed linens!
There was not one thing we would change.
We loved hiking through the 75 privately owned acres. Very romantic. The market days in Poggibonsi and Certaldo were great.
Diane's review of Villa Sella
We all had a wonderful time at Villa Sella. The owners not only prepared the property with ease and comfort in mind but also personally made us welcome as their valued guests.
The house itself was charming, yet new and very modern, with all of the conveniences one could want with comfort and beauty included! There were many little touches that really welcomed us and made us more comfortable: a very well appointed kitchen and beautiful tubs of flowers on the porch overlooking a spectacular view and a sparkling swimming pool, very welcome after a long day of exploring the countryside and vineyards and little towns. There were even lovely sprigs of lavender scenting the rooms. The owners were very accommodating and helpful in suggesting local eateries and driving routes and shopping locations.
There was nothing to not like.
The peacefulness and lush fields of the countryside combined with the hilly, winding roads made the entire area seem like an escape from real life, almost a fairy tale, which is a great way to feel on vacation. The property is close to roads leading in all directions to make sightseeing and exploring easy.
Rachel's review of Villa Sella
We loved every aspect of our stay, including our wonderful hosts. They went out of their way, literally! to ensure that our trip was excellent. We were traveling with a 2 year old, and the owner had stocked our villa with age appropriate toys, books, outside toys, pool toys etc.
Gorgeous views--we even had a double rainbow visible off our porch one evening.
