Located in the heart of Tuscany's Chianti region, Casa Matteo is an outstanding villa with stunning views over characteristic olive groves, vineyards, forests and country estates. This spacious independent country house, originally a small monastery, has five bedrooms with five en suite bathrooms and is located only 2 km from Mercatale Val di Pesa and 18 km from Florence. Upon request and for an additional fee, four additional beds can be added inside the house bringing the total capacity of the villa to fourteen guests. If desired and upon owner approval, the annex (one bedroom, one bathroom) can be added to the rental. The annex cannot be r...ented independently.

This villa offers our special “arrive and relax” package:
A simple Tuscan dinner is provided on your arrival night. This is a welcome sight after a long flight and will allow you to check in, unpack and relax. You will find the dinner in the kitchen with the instructions for heating. The dinner is also suitable for vegetarian guests. It basically consists of a pasta al forno, a vegetable tarte, salad, and fruit. Bread, water and wine are included. No changes are possible for the first dinner.
The villa also will be stocked with basic groceries so that you do not have to shop upon arrival or worry about store closures on Sunday. The shopping list consists of: milk, coffee, tea, bread, biscuits, sugar, salt, water, fruit, eggs, oil, butter, jam, orange juice, cereals. The quantity of the items will be adjusted by the staff according to the number of guests.
Casa Matteo is an excellent setting for a gathering of friends or family. The panoramic hilltop location is exclusive and private while still offering good access to Florence located just 15 minutes to the north. The charming Chianti hill towns are also within easy striking distance. Siena is 50 minutes away and Lucca is approximately one hour’s drive. The villa is spacious and has been tastefully and authentically restored. The grounds are impressive and interspersed with olive groves planted throughout the property. The large swimming pool with separate circular Jacuzzi and furnished stone solarium is especially remarkable.
Guests arrive at Casa Matteo by way of a typical Italian gravel country road (1200 meters) that winds through vineyards and olive groves. The villa is about 1000 years old, dating back to its construction in the medieval period. It evolved from a monastery to a private residence in the following century and was completely restored in 2006. The exterior photos show this property’s splendid appearance with images of the 10,000 square meters of land that is totally enclosed. The estate is composed of the main house, the swimming pool (15 x 7.5 meters, open May 4 – September 28 in 2013; pool towels are included), and a small annex (40 sq mt) where the owner’s belongings are stored.
The handsome manicured lawn is bordered with attractive rose bushes and olive trees. The covered outdoor stone patio is ideal for al fresco dining and includes a barbecue, a long table and comfortable chairs. The swimming pool is near the patio and is furnished with sun loungers, chairs, tables and umbrellas. Constructed of beautiful terracotta tiles and beamed ceilings, Casa Matteo is 530 square meters in size and spans two floors.

Basement

Two double sofa beds in private rooms are available on the ground floor of the main villa to accommodate up to 4 additional guests. The cost is 200 Euros per extra guest per week, paid on site.
Upon request and approval of the owner, 2 guests may be accommodated in the annex (outbuilding) for an additional charge of Euros 1350 per week plus 100 Euros final cleaning charge.
The rental fee includes daily maid service for three hours a day from Monday to Saturday. Bed and bath linens are changed each Wednesday and Saturday. Air conditioning is provided only in the four upstairs bedrooms. This is metered and paid on site. There is parking inside the property. Pool towels are included.
Other services available upon request at an additional price include: cook service, personal laundry and ironing, grocery shopping, wine tasting, driver and transfer services and baby sitting. Horseback riding is located at 3km distance.
Wireless WiFi Internet access is included. A new fitness room is now available near the pool.
Pets are not allowed at Casa Matteo. Due to the stone steps connecting the two floors, Casa Matteo is not suitable for people with walking difficulties.
