We are in San Cassiano, a tipical small village between Lecce and Santa Maria di Leuca, Antica Locanda Mirgio belonged to one of the area's most prestigious families.

Dating back to 1700, this palatial building recalls the style of the old "Salento" houses.

The Palace was completely renovated in 2008 and further enriched with precious details in 2010, all the while keeping intact its original characteristics.

Each guest room is in the typical Salento style with vaulted ceilings, private bathrooms, and lovely terraces; the residence also boasts a charming... “cottage".

San Cassiano di Lecce is a town of 2,148 inhabitants of the Salento area (Lecce District). Located halfway (40 km) between the capital, Lecce, Santa Maria di Leuca, extreme southern point of the Salento peninsula. Very near with a huge number of very intresting place (Historical, Archeological, and tipical ancent small town). In the middle between Adriatic and Ionio sea. 6km from the sea of Santa Cesarea Terme (one of the biggest SPA in Italy, on the sea).
The Adriatic Sea has eroded the tufa rocks of the Salento coast for centuries creating fantastic shapes, rocky caves and grottoes…
Otranto is only ten kilometers from San Cassiano. Nicknamed the "City of Martyrs" for the 800 inhabitants who were beheaded by the Turks in 1480 for refusing to convert to Islam, Otranto is the heart of the Italian portion of the Byzantine Empire. A must see is the Cathedral with its elaborate mosaics of daily life, and the Castle with moat, built in 1578. Interestingly, the castle is the setting for Horace Walpole's "The Castle of Otranto," generally deemed the first gothic novel.

FLiGHTS
The two main airports in Puglia are Bari and Brindisi.

Ryanair offers budget flights from London Stansted to Bari Airport (called Palese Airport)and to Brindisi(Casale Airport).
There are also Ryanair flights from Frankfurt to Bari.

EasyJet flies to Brindisi and Bari

TUIfly offers low cost flights from Cologne, Munich and Stuttgart.

Car Hire: the best way to visit Salento Area is to hire a car;
Main car hire companies have desks at all airports (Hertz, Avis, Budget, Europcar...) and it costs less to pre-book a vehicle on the internet, before your arrival here.

The Italian Highway Code follows the Geneva Convention and Italy uses international road signs:driving is on the right , passing on the left.


By train: The "Ferrovie dello Stato" line end up in Lecce and there is a local train service (Ferrovie Sud Est) leaving from the same railstation that connects the towns in the area of Salento,: not a very fast way to travel but we do recomend you try it as it is an interesting experience for a day out with the family. The kids will love the little trains!


British Airways and Alitalia also fly to Bari and Brindisi.

The well served airports of Naples (3 hour drive), Rome (4 hour drive), Ancona and Pescara (3 hour drive) are also an easy way to reach our area.
