We had never considered renting a vacation property until we decided that our trip to San Diego would not be much fun if we stayed in a hotel with our 22-month old son. The agent (Patti Sears) who set us up with this property was very helpful and understood exactly what we needed as a family with a young child.
We originally started our search in the Mission Beach area, as we had never been to San Diego but wanted to be on the beach. In retrospect, we are glad we chose La Palma Heaven, as it is right on the beach, complete with a great playground for our little guy and a boardwalk bustling with locals. There are several great restaurants nearby and there are several routes in/out of the neighborhood. Mission Beach is a great area, but it was a little too busy for our liking.
The unit itself is well maintained, secure, with quiet neighbors. It is getting on in years, maybe built in the mid 80's, and does not appear to have had any renovations since it was built. It came supplied with a crib, a child gate, a closet full of beach toys, and a booster seat to make parenting much easier.
Of some concern to us was the absence of air conditioning, but there are two fans which kept it manageable for our visit in early april. Also absent was ceiling fans in the bathrooms, which can lead to some pretty "muggy" conditions. There was a bbq, but no utensils (brush/spatula/tongs, etc), so we didn't use it. Besides those details, and considering the reasonable price, we really enjoyed our stay and felt we got a great deal.

This property is in an ideal location just steps away from walking, jogging, roller blading and cycling on the Baywalk. This rental is exactly as advertised in the photos. The unit was clean with nice decor and had all the amenities that are necessary for a three month stay from December thru February 2013. The beds were comfortable. The one and half bathrooms were adequate, although a family of four may find the water heater underperforming for taking back to back showers. The neighbors in this complex were very friendly. This was a quiet location during the winter season.
This is a great location for families with children since Fanual Park playground is right out the door. Grocery, drug store, other retail and restaurants are within walking distance.
Although there is parking, you had to be extremely careful backing out of the lot. However, our designated spot was always available for use and not once did anyone ever attempt to use it.
One suggestion is that the patio and balcony doors and tracks need to be maintained for more frequent use during warmer weather. The patio and balcony doors were extremely difficult to open.
We were very pleased with our stay in this unit while in San Diego. We would highly recommend this rental.

The condo is nice, and just steps from Mission bay and it's beach. It is a nice walk along Mission bay to the ocean. The resident neighbors are very nice. The condo is centrally located in San Diego, and getting around is easy, as long as you avoid rush hour. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
