Betty's bungalow is an adorable, very reasonably-priced house, in the heart of Pacific Beach within blocks of dozens of restaurants, grocery stores, shops, bars and nightclubs. Banks OregonGood Location-cute older house
Left on 04/02/2013 for a stay in March 2013
Nancy's Vacations were great to work with. The house itself is in an okay area of the city, with a short walk or bike ride to either the ocean or the bay.
The house could use some updates however. It lacks little details that make your stay stress-free. Some examples include, horrible pots and pans. We noted too that the suggestion for new ones was placed awhile ago in the guest book, but clearly nothing has been done. Furniture and decor could be updated as well.
I've stayed in worse places, but I've stayed in a lot nicer too. The pluses about this house are the location and relatively quiet neighborhood--with all kinds of shops and amenities within walking distance. The minuses are lack of attention to detail...(how much is a new set of frying pans--considering how much we spent on the rental?).
Overall a 3 star. -

I love the driveway parking space and the little private backyard with fences. The house has everything you need and when things are not functioning (such as the kettle), Nancy Vacations staff would offer timely and helpful assistance. The house is clean and has paintings and decorations (lamps in the shape of different birds) which in my opinion made it feel more like home. The house is within two minute walk from Sprint Farmers and Trader Joe and two minute drive from CVS and Vons - super convenient and I love that. It is also close to many nce restaurants and bars and so food was never a problem when we did not want to cook (although close to bars means you might have drunkard problems which could be quite scary to see one at late night). Lastly, it takes only 10 minutes to walk to the beach - I really miss our morning walk along the beautiful beach!

Left on 11/29/2012 for a stay in November 2012
This was our second time renting this bungalow. The description on Vrbo is well done and portrays it accurately. We enjoyed just parking our car and walking to the beach, restaurants, grocery and local church, library, etc. This was a holiday visit to family in the area. It is like being at home but on a wonderful vacation. We appreciate that it is pet friendly. Would highly recommend it.

Left on 10/18/2012 for a stay in October 2012
From searching for houses on the website to arriving at the bungalow, the experience was fun! The house is cozy and friendly. Being able to stay in a house, having a yard for the boys to play outside, being able to bring the dogs, all made this a vacation to be treasured. The house is close enough to the beach to easily walk, which we did often. Being able to cook, and do laundry made our stay more pleasant. The electronic lock is pure genius! No worrying about losing keys at the beach, or who gets the keys if all the adults go in separate directions. Having designated parking in San Diego is another benefit beyond price. The house tuly is only minutes from the attractions in San Diego. The only negative was noise from parties, and Nancy's is taking care of that, now that they are aware. Nancy's Vacation Rentals has been responsive through the entire process. I absolutely recommend planning your vacation with their assistance.

AlbuquerqueGreat beach getaway!
Left on 07/25/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We enjoyed our stay at Betty's Beach Bungalow very much. The house was well-stocked and very clean and accommodated our family perfectly. Service was great, from reservation making, to check in & out, to a cable TV problem that was addressed immediately when we called. The location was great for walking to the beach, our primary interest, or to restaurants, groceries, etc. A word of caution however, that this convenience also meant more noise in the evenings and sometimes late into the night. The off-street parking, washer/dryer, bikes and boogie boards were all really great amenities but the bikes could use a little maintenance- chains were a little rusty. Overall a very positive part of a fun family vacation!

Left on 06/07/2012 for a stay in June 2012
When choosing to book this property, our questions were addressed quickly by a service representative. They were very knowledgeable about the property to be sure it met our needs. When we received our final confirmation that rep also accommodated our needs for early information.
The home was very comfortable with enough places to stash things for all 5 of us! Love that we had washer/dryer available to us. Two issues: the can opener does NOT work and we have been desperately trying to get a hold of someone to find out what to do with the trash as there are no outside bins we can find.
The location was Perfect. We wanted to be close to the beach for our kids: 8, 11 & 12. We walked there several times a day and they Loved using the boogie boards available at the house. Also, there were two grocery stores literally around the corner which we utilized for groceries and refilling water jugs (just because we prefer to do that.)
The best thing was that in this part of town there doesn't seem to be a lot of options for parking yet we were able to park our mini van and a small trailer we pulled in the driveway for the house. Big plus!! Also, it is very easy to get to the major attractions from this location.
We would definitely book this location again if we returned to San Diego. -

Left on 05/21/2012 for a stay in May 2012
My best girlfriends and I were looking to book a place in the San Diego area as one of us was set to get married the following weekend. We wanted a place that we could spend time relaxing together, cooking meals, taking in some afternoon sun over some wine in the backyard with access to the beach, restaurants, grocery stores and of course - the beach. Betty's Beach Bungalow through Nancy's was all of that and more. For such a reasonable price, we slept 5 comfortably and were not ready to go home when the time came. I would highly recommend this vacation home for everything from a family vacation to a girl's weekend.

What a delight! I just returned from a "girls' getaway" in sunny San Diego. This Pacific Beach cottage was the perfect retreat. It is cozy, inviting and well equipped. The location could not be better for restaurants, bars, shops and walks along the beach or bay. You literally do not need a car! I am definitely planning on returning to this charming bungalow by the beach.

Left on 11/20/2011 for a stay in October 2011
We stayed here for 8 days after the birth of our new grandson. We had spent a month here last winter as well. The location is perfect for us, less than a block from our daughter's home and close to Sprouts and Trader Joe's for our frequent grocery needs. Many things had been upgraded since last winter, especially the deck, patio furniture, landscaping, and TV. It was nice and clean and comfortable. Our only recommendation is that a more room darkening window covering is needed on the east side of the master bedroom. There is a carriage light on the building next door that keeps the bedroom too light for someone like me who has problems getting to sleep. Nancy and her staff were flexible with our dates and easy to work with. I'm sure we'll be using their services again.

We spent 4 nights at Betty's Beach Bungalow and were gutted we couldn't extend our stay!
The bungalow was ideal both in terms of location and comfort. We were based in a quite spot but were only 2 mins walk from bars/shops and 10 mins walk to the beach or the nearby bay. We also had everything we needed to feel like we really were home from home.
I'd definitely recommend Betty's Beach Bungalow to anyone thinking of staying in the Pacific Beach area. -

Betty's Beach Bungalow was just perfect. I traveled with my husband, two kids and dogs. Everyone had a great time. The house was very clean, the backyard had a brand new BBQ, plenty of room for everyone. The bunk beds are bigger than ours at home! We walked everyday down to Pacific beach, stopped to eat at several local resturants, and spent the day on the beach and at the tidal pools. Very close to dog beach too, so we drove the dogs there and they had a blast! We're coming again next year! Thanks!!!

I stayed here over Memorial day for a girls trip. We had the best time! Betty's Bungalow easily accomodated 5 of us and was still quite comfortable. The place was really clean and had all the amenities we would need for bbqing, biking and relaxing. The location can't be beat either - we loved walking over to Henry's for snacks and coffee, and at night being able to walk to restaurants and bars was awesome. We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again. Located 1 block off the main road filled with shopping and restaurants and only 4.5 blocks from the beach. Private drive was nice because the street parking fills up quickly. Having use of the beachchairs, bikes and boogie boards was a nice amenity. Bunk bed sheets had small amounts of sand that needed to be clean out (kids room). Negative, the bathtub backed up and one of the windows did not lock. Positive - Management was very responsive and immediately sent someone out to fix both. If your looking for a big bedrooms, this is not it, however, if your looking for a location in the heart of the of PB, then this is your place.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at this cozy little cottage. It was the perfect distance for a relaxing walk to the beach. The house was clean and comfortable--a little small, but not uncomfortable. We absolutely loved our stay at this cute house! Several things were awesome about it: first, the location! It is close (1 block!) to lots of cute shops and restaurants as well as a short walk to the beach (5 blocks!). Second: It was a great deal for the money - I had 5 people (3 kids and 2 adults), and we all slept comfortably! It would have cost us triple the amount of money to stay at a hotel. Third: Clean and cute! We found some beach toys in the back yard and were able to use them at the beach - really fun! I would have had to buy that stuff for the kids. Fourth: Off-street parking! Definitely awesome given the location! We just parked at home and went out to eat a few times. Much nicer than driving around to find a parking spot - plus Mom & Dad could both drink some adult beverages!
My kids are 7, 4, and 4 (twin boys). They still talk about going back to that house. We definitely will!!! -

Left on 10/21/2010 for a stay in October 2010
It was a convenient stand alone place and if you have young children, that helps. Nice to have access to boogie boards and sand toys. A little too far to beach for young children to walk. The bikes would have been a great use, but they needed maintanence and baskets would have been helpful. They were rideable though. Like most bungalows, house was pretty old, but it was kept up. Nice to have a kitchen and a little room, so better than hotel. I would recommend moving out the big wardrobe in the master bedroom, since it made the room too crowded. Also, since there's no heat, there needs to be extra blankets at the place (there was only one). Also recommend putting towels in a big plastic zipper bag of some sort with dryer sheets to keep them smelling fresh (even if they're clean, they smelled like the old cupboard). Location next door to market and other business was nice, but you should note that the area is a bit of a college party place (esp if you have young kids). Easy, no hassle check-in with code. Appreciated having last minute discount, but thought cleaning fee should be less than $100 (maybe $65 to 75?).

Left on 09/08/2010 for a stay in August 2010
My husband and two sons and I stayed here for the 1st time last month. We found the house to be very comfortable, and it really fit our needs perfectly. The location is superb--not too close to the beach (and the nonstop partying that can accompany it), yet a very nice, brief walk to get there. We also loved the fact that Trader Joe's and Henri's grocery store are practically in the back yard (just 1/2 block, if that), and that it is so centrally located to a lot that San Diego has to offer.
Our only concern was that some of the neighbors could be loud in the night, and even chose to "hang out" in the backyard during the night once or twice (my husband woke up to voices, looked out the back window and saw people around the grill in the backyard, which has a privacy fence surrounding it).
Overall, we were very, very pleased with Betty's Bungalow, and would gladly stay there again if we are fortunate enough to make it back to San Diego. -

Good location, a bit pricey, but that's San Diego. Everything in the house worked as advertised. Perfect for two couples.
My only complaint was the ridiculous requirement that management needed a physical signed copy of the lease agreement. Electronic agreements with payment made by credit card are legally binding contracts made all the time. Getting a hold of a printer and scanner or fax machine is a real pain when travelling and there is absolutely no reason to require a scanned copy of a physical signature. It doesn't help the management deal with risk and it can be a huge inconvenience for the tenant.Response from Nancy's Vacation Rentals - 06/18/2010
Manager
If you make the booking, we do not require a signature. If we make the booking for you, we ask that you sign the agreement and email or fax it back to us. If that is too difficult, we allow you to write an email that you read the agreement, agree to abide by the terms and conditions and give us permission to charge your card for the amount in the agreement. We always try to make it as easy as possible for our guests so I'm not sure what happened this time but it is definitely not the norm!

The up-side to this rental is the proximity to the beach and Trader Joe's. The staff was also very easy to work with re setting up the reservation.
The down-side is the neighbors (nightly beer-pong parties that occurred even after the traditional spring-break dates). The noise continued until about 4 am. each night of our stay. Insufficient silverware (had to share forks), the yard was littered with cigarette butts, and grass was not mowed. We did contact the staff about the silverware and cigarette butts but there was no response during our stay. On the other hand our stove did not work and they were quick to send someone over to address the problem. It tunred out to be a block-wide emergency gas shut-off, but it was nice to have a quick response from the staff.Response from Nancy's Vacation Rentals - 06/18/2010

We have reported the noise disturbance to the manager of the neighboring building and he has threatened them with eviction if they make any more problems for the neighbors. We can only do something about it if we know about it calling us immediately is much more effective. Nancy

What we got was the partying beach crowd all hours of the night, construction crews from the next door condo development as well as recycling banging from the recycle center in the nearby parking lot of the grocery store.
The unit was not cleaned upon our arrival. This was taken care of while we waited in a nearby rental for the few hours it needed.I can only assume the housekeepers put the bathroom towels and rug together to save time at our expense. The towels smelled like the bathroom rug.
The pictures need to be updated.I thought it was going to be an asset having the yard for barbecuing with hosting our kids. That was a disappointment. Besides not having any outside light, there was dog poo, broken chairs and a broken umbrella and an overused barbecue.I can only imagine who the past renters have been. By the looks of the walls and the noise of the surrounding tenants I would say this was a student rental. This is most likely the best use for this property.Response from Nancy's Vacation Rentals - 06/18/2010

The fact that the unit was not clean when they arrived was totally my fault. We had a last minute renter whose apartment was being fumigated and I forgot to relay the last minute stay to my cleaning staff. However, I sent them to another house just two houses away so they could wait in comfort while it was cleaned.
The back yard has been totally landscaped and there is a new BBQ and table, chairs and umbrella. We ask all guests with pets to clean up after their pets because the housekeepers don't always remember to check the yard for dog poop. I was unaware of these problems and this guest never mentioned them to me while they were there or afterwards even though we always ask for feedback immediately. She just wrote this 9 months after her stay. The construction is long finished and there is a two story apartment building between this house and the grocery store. No one has ever mentioned any noise from the store before.
