      Home away from home

Left on 05/17/2013 for a stay in April 2013

Very comfortable and cozy place to stay near Mission Beach. We had 4 adults and 1 4-year old; there was plenty of room. Beds were very comfortable and there was everything we needed in the kitchen. The patio was lovely for outdoor lounging. We really appreciated all the extras like bikes, boogie boards, beach chairs and an umbrella, and a wonderful cabinet full of preschool age book for the 4-year old. Our large truck did not fit in either available parking space, but we had no trouble finding parking a short walk away. Easy walk to the beach. The owners were very responsive to requests and a breeze to work with. No complaints; I highly recommend staying here.

This is our 2nd time at Dawn's lovely home in Mission Beach, and that right there is the highest compliment we could pay, a return visit. This house has everything going for it. 1. The location: you are seconds from the Bayside beach and maybe a full minute to the oceanside. Super close to SeaWorld and great restaurants are all around! 2. Size & Amenities: this is a large home and our family of 5 fit comfortably. The house is stocked with everything you could possibly need, including books, bikes, and beach toys. Do not underestimate the value of on site laundry facilities!! 3. Ease: This place is easy. No muss, no fuss, Dawn makes coming back to this place like coming home. Sometimes taking your whole family away can be stressful. Dawn makes it very easy and quite comfortable. We love it here and we will be back. This is a *detached single family home* which means you do not have neighbours below or above you. The place is entirely yours for however long you rent it. This is a huge selling point to us, as you never know who might be on the other side of the duplex. This is great value and has more than you can ask for. Book it and relax, it is just that easy!

      A Home away From Home

Left on 03/18/2013 for a stay in February 2013

Sometimes in life you just get lucky. This is how I felt when I was looking for a place to rent in Mission Beach and came across this cottage. I was immediately drawn to the outside terrace area that was spacious and had all the essentials; an eating area, a grill and a gas fire pit, that I absolutely loved!
I contacted Dawn and the process of renting was easy breezy. We initially spoke on the phone but later just exchanged a few emails and phone texts. The contract was emailed, I signed it and mailed it back along with a deposit and the deal was done.
Upon arrival to cottage, we received a phone text of instructions that were exactly spot on. There was a notebook left on the kitchen table with answers to any question we might have concerning the cottage. What a great idea that notebook is.
There were no bad surprises because the photos show the cottage exactly how it is. As other reviewers have stated, the cottage was very clean and comfortable and had every convenience of home. The kitchen is very well stocked. The furniture and beds are comfortable. There is everything you need for the beach. My husband loved riding the bike and we so enjoyed our first kayak boating on the bay. The garage and washer and dryer are both huge added features.
It is only 267 steps (Yes, I actually counted them) to the ocean, where I saw breathe taking sunsets. In the mornings, I walked to the ocean with my coffee and sat on the sea wall just enjoying the morning. Some mornings I just walked along the water's edge with my camera. Sitting by the fire pit at night was a great way to end a day.
We saw a couple of plays, got to visit Petco Park for fan appreciation day, and took day trips up and down the California coast. We even made it to Los angles for a Clippers game.
This is a wonderful cottage and a no hassle booking. A place to relax and get away with everything you need at the ready.

We loved this charming Mission Beach cottage!

Left on 09/21/2012 for a stay in September 2012

My husband, toddler daughter and I stayed in this lovely beach rental and couldn't have been more pleased with our experience. The owner (Dawn) was so helpful in planning our trip and was easily reachable with any questions or concerns once we arrived. The house itself is so charming and cozy but still has plenty of room to spread out. My daughter loved the large selection of children's books and toys kept in the living room, I think that was the highlight of the trip for her. My husband and I loved the use of the cruiser bikes, the comfy living room with flat screen TV and the well-stocked kitchen. Also handy were the beach toys, chairs and towels for afternoons spent in the sand. The house is closer to the gentle bay beach, but we spent our time at the "real" beach just a block and a half away. It was less crowded than the main part of Mission Beach and perfect for relaxing. There are several decent take-out restaurants within a 2-3 minute walk of the house which was convenient for quick dinners or lunches. There is also a small market about a block away for last minute groceries. The house is literally a 5 minute drive to Sea World, which was perfect for us since we visited 3 days in a row! We had a great time and would recommend this rental to anyone looking to visit the San Diego area.

This is my third year renting in the Mission Bay/Mission Beach area and this property is by far my favorite. The location on the bay is terrific, the house was clean and had everything you could need for a great vacation. A kayak, bikes, boogie boards, beach toys, childrens toys inside, games, puzzles, books - everything you need to have a relaxing vacation and to keep your kids entertained. I loved this rental and hope to be going back soon. Dawn was terrific to work with and I would reccomend this property to anyone!.

      Didn't want to come home

Left on 08/02/2012 for a stay in July 2012

We had a wonderful time at Dawn's house in Mission Bay. The house had everything we needed, including location. Dawn was exceptional with communication and always responded to my questions in a timely fashion and with lots of info. The house is very nice and clean, the addition of a washer and dryer was a bonus. A block away from the bay (really, less than 1 minute walk) and a block and a half from the ocean. The house had all of the beach toys we needed. We were close enough to town that we could walk up the boardwalk for a night of fun at Belmont Park, yet far enough away that it was relatively quiet still. Small stores were in walking distance (we went out for coffee every morning, just for the fun of it, even though there is a coffee maker at the house), and larger chain stores within a 10 minute drive. The bay itself is nice and secluded, quiet, great for families. This is where my 11 yr old son wanted to spend his time. Oh, and fireworks at night from SeaWorld :-) The ocean beach was perfect for my husband and myself, epecially down near the house - not as crowded as it was near Belmont Park, but much more spacious than the beaches when we lived on eastern LI.
When it was time to leave none of us were ready. I'm not sure that has ever happened! Usually after a few days everyone is ready to come home. Definitely looking forward to staying again and hopefully not having to do the touristy stuff, just enjoying the beaches.

We loved this house. The location is excellent and it was surprisingly quiet even though so close to the beach community. The house itself is both well appointed and well stocked. It was comfortable and cozy, but had every convenience and enough space (great layout) so we weren't all bumping into each other... Pictures are actually very accurate, it is that nice!! Loved it and we will be back!!

      South Mission gem!!

Left on 04/26/2012 for a stay in April 2012

We just returned from our fabulous holiday in San Diego. We arrived to fresh fruit and flowers to this lovely home in south mission. Our family of five loved this spot. With small children the access to the bay side was unbeatable. We could go and enjoy the water without having to pack as though we were going to be gone for days. The house was so close, you could return in 30 seconds for anything you may have forgotten, which with three children under 5 is invaluable!! The home itself was spotless, well appointed with all the bonuses you can imagine, like bikes, games, books, BBQ etc. It is like spending time at an old friends home! Our little ones loved hanging out on the front patio and we loved being close to a corner store, pizza and mexican take aways! I could go on forever, but the best compliment I can give is that we will return, and the best advice I can give is not to hesitate. Sometimes booking online can be a crap shoot and you wonder if the pics you see are anything like what you will find when you walk through the front door. Let me tell you, there is no gambling with this place, you will love it, it's better than the pics. Thanks Dawn for a memorable family holiday, hope to see you next year!

We think this is the perfect place to stay in San Diego. The owner is very easy to communicate with and answered all our questions immediately. The house was spotless inside and out, complete with fresh flowers on the dining room table. Perfect location, short walk to the beach on one side and to the bay on the other side. Only 5 minutes to Sea World and 15 minutes to downtown and all the attractions there. Complete kitchen made it easy to eat in, supermarket just down the street. Beach toys, bicycles, games for kids etc. Quiet location. I would recommend this to anyone and if I ever go back to San Diego this is the first house I will check into for availability.

We loved this house! The location was exactly what we where hoping for. It was so nice having the beach and bay within quick walking distance. I think our favorite part was the porch with a firepit and grill. Every night we grilled out and enjoyed some wine by the fire. All the neighbors were very friendly as well. When we come back to San Diego we will totally stay here again. It was perfect and the owner was a delight to work with as well.

      January 2012 Week long stay

Left on 01/23/2012 for a stay in January 2012

This property is situated right in the heart of Mission Beach and is a short walk to the Bay or the Ocean. Our children (5 and 2) really loved their stay here and appreciated the trikes, children's books, toys, and games that were part of the house as well.

My wife and I appreciated the central location, well stocked kitchen, laundry and the overall layout of this beach cottage as well. The owner, Dawn, was extremely communicative and had many helpful suggestions about where to eat and sights to see while in town.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this rental to family and friends and will consider staying with the Knights again if we find ourselves back in San Diego.

Perfect for our family SD getaway! Clean, cute, great location

Left on 12/06/2011 for a stay in November 2011

We spent four nights in this adorable place right before Thanksgiving, and my family is still raving about it! It was my husband and I and our two-year-old daughter, and my parents (plus my sister and her husband and baby live nearby so they were there for meals, hanging out) and it was perfect. The first thing I loved is the nice shape that the house was in when we arrived. Very clean, organized, and a nice touch of flowers and organic fruit waiting on the table for us. The second thing I loved was the location, you are just a few houses from the sandy bay and 1.5 blocks from the sandy beach. Plus, the front of the house is a little walkway instead of a street, so you get a very fun, neighborly, laid back feeling from the front patio.
We cooked in the house quite a bit, and it had everything we could ask for (more than most rentals...crock pot, blender, etc.). Bathrooms are great, nice tiled shower in the master and jetted bathtub in the other which was good for baths for the toddler. The house is seriously stocked with games, toys for kids and books for adults and kids. I think this may have been my daughter's favorite part, all the new toys!
We normally rent homes when we travel, so have lots of experience with this sort of thing, and Dawn and the house were in the top 5, for sure! She is super nice and accommodating, and helped us with whatever we needed prior to the visit.
Since it was a holiday season we didn't experience too much noise from the neighbors/neighborhood, but you can tell it is a fun-loving kind of place. We enjoy that! Around 2am my husband heard some people stumbling home from the local bars to a nearby apartment but I slept right through it. Point being, if you visit in Spring or Summer I'm sure the area will be a bit more...festive..., but the house is set back from the street and seems to block out noise pretty well. Maybe bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper.
Enjoy, we will definitely be back!

Family Friendly -- Rain or Shine (Nov 10-14, 2011)

Left on 11/19/2011 for a stay in November 2011

We are from Yuma, AZ and frequent San Diego but have never rented before. It was a great first experience and we will for sure do it again. My sister, her husband, and 1.5 year old nephew came from Minnesota to visit me there rather than Yuma and the house was perfect for the group. Great kitchen utensils, condiments, spices, etc...for cooking while the little man played with the all the books and toys that were already in the house. The grill and patio area was wonderful. The dog across the way "Renny" was very friendly.

The beach toys, bikes, patio, and location were the main reasons we selected the place in the first place and all met or exceeded expectations. The season and temps were more suited for biking and that was a great way to see everything all the way to La Jolla along the beach and we even tried the skim board a bit while catching the sunset. After sunset, the TV with surround sound and TiVo allowed us even to watch our Minnesota hockey teams. On the rainy day we walked less than a block to the Pennant. We had never been there in all our times to the beach area so that was something new and fun.

Also, Dawn - the owner -- was extremely accommodating to our needs. We happened to arrive a bit early, she showed us around the house and allowed us to get settled in so we could start exploring San Diego right away. After heading home for the weekend, Dawn had realized that we accidentally had left our iPod, called us, and was more than willing to send it the following day.

Altogether the location just off the main bay side walk was actually really nice because it was a little quieter due to less traffic right out your door, yet still very short walks to either the beach or bay side. A great place and somewhere we would stay again if we can get more visitors from the Midwest!

Myself, wife, eleven year old son, and 82 year old mom would like to thank you for a great place to stay. Thanks once again and we will be back next fall. P.S.-We like no TVs in the bedrooms so it made watching the World Series a lot more cozy. Thanks.

      Perfect for our young family!

Left on 10/17/2011 for a stay in October 2011

We have 3 daughters (ages 10, 8 and 6), and this was the perfect place for us! Just a couple homes away from Mission Bay beaches (no waves) and about 10 homes away from Mission Beach (waves). We'd come again. Loved having wireless internet available, too. We arrived to some fresh fruit and flowers, which was nice. The owners also had a lot of nice local info already printed out in a binder ready for us to look through (some of their favorite restaurants, grocery store locations, etc). Since it is Mission Bay, the streeets and parking spots are a little tight. Our Tahoe barely fit in the larger of the two parking spots. That's really nothing against the home at all - just a reality of the area. And it was really nice that there were two spots. It was also cool to have some beach items available (body board, beach chairs, toys, etc). We loved it!

This is a very nice property. It looks small from the outside, but is quite roomy. It has a very well equipped kitchen, a nice dining area, living room, two large bedrooms and two very nice bathrooms.

The house was spotless and has been very well taken care of by the owners (the wood floors were recently redone). They care a great deal that you enjoy your stay (we were greeted with a bowl of fresh fruit) and Dawn called on our first day to tell us we could call her if we had any questions. Dawn leaves a 3 ring binder with all the information you need to use the house and also includes recommendations on things to do and where to eat.

We would easily stay here again. San Diego is wonderful and Mission Beach is a great place to stay. Next time we go we'll stay for the whole week. Believe me, you won't run out of things to do in San Diego.

      Fantastic beach rental

Left on 08/16/2011 for a stay in July 2011

My family which included my parents(70 y/o) my husband and our 2 children ages 3 and 4 had the wonderful opportunity to rent this awesome property for a week. This was our first beach house rental ever and it totally exceeded all our expectations. The location was fabulous for our family, 4 houses to the bay which was perfect for our kids and 10 houses to the beach which was perfect for mama watching the waves during nap time:). We really loved the fact that this is a residential area, quiet, very little foot traffic on sidewalk between homes, with a lovely lovely natural gas fire pit which we used every night. The charming courtyard is where we spent the majority of our time, cooking on the BBQ, eating outside, letting the kids play and allowing the adults read or play cards. The house itself was perfect for us and provided lots of little extras that were not expected, fresh fruit on table, fresh flowers, lots of books, games, toys and puzzles for all ages. It is a beautiful comfortable home which made it very comfortable to relax and 'make yourself at home for the week'. We really enjoyed the beach toys and accessories that came along with the house which saved us from dragging that stuff over from Phoenix. Every morning we used the bikes to ride around the bay and boardwalk and my kids just loved the tricycles. Another nice fact that within a minute walk there is a pizza shop, taco shop, 2 markets, coffee shop and little bar/hangout. The owners were wonderful and extremely helpful and prompt to respond to questions or offer local advice. Overall they were just very nice to work with and made our vacation one to remember. We are definitely going back and will try to stay longer next year!!

The property was very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. We could easily walk to a couple of take-out restaurants, coffee shop, local efficiency market; other attractions such as kayak and beach equipment rentals, the fun zone, and larger restaurants were also within walking distance. The owner is very helpful and knows the area well so is a great resource for any question you might have. We will definitely return! There's so much to see and do, and then it's also a great place just to relax!

Our stay at this property was excellent. The house was clean and the kitchen was well equipped and in working order. We were 6 adults and 1 toddler and the house fit us well. We enjoyed the use of the grill out on the front patio as well as the gas fire pit. Even with the six of us, there was plenty of hot water to go around for showers. No one was stuck with a cold shower. The location of the property allowed us to enjoy both the ocean beach and the bay within just a block of each. There is a grocery store about 2 blocks away which came in handy a few times. This is a very nice property in a nice area and we loved our time here. The owner was very nice to work with and was only a text or a phone call away when I needed her. I was so glad she had a supply of beach towels because I had forgotten ours. We really enjoyed hanging out on the patio and going back and forth between the bay and beach. We parked our car and didn't drive for the entire week. I have already recommended this property to many friends, but I still hope it is available when we are able to return! Thank you for making our vacation so enjoyable!

We have been vacationing in Mission Beach for 15 years. This was our favorite rental. Lots of space, great amenities and one of the best patios we have ever had. Even extra parking which is hard to come by. We will be renting this unit again.
