Look no further! This apartment will have everything you need to enjoy your stay in San Francisco. My husband and I enjoyed a weeks stay at Ellsworth House, close to the bus, just down the street from beautiful Bernal Hill, close to stores and restaurants. It took us no time at all to figure out the buses and trolley cars. We loved the outdoor space too, took advantage of the barbeque in the evening, and coffee in the sun in the morning! Such a nice addition to our rental space.

      Perfect Girls' Getaway

Left on 04/02/2013 for a stay in April 2013

My daughter and I had a mother-daughter weekend at this perfect city getaway. Everything was thought out: an umbrella for the little rain we experienced, shopping bags for our excursions, as SF charges for them now. The apartment was equipped with a collection of tour books to guide us through the city. The quaint apartment has a recently landscaped backyard to relax with your morning coffee and enjoy the sun. We will definitely come back. It was the perfect accomodation for our girls's getaway.

Wonderful place to recover after a long day of city exploring

Left on 01/01/2013 for a stay in October 2012

We spent 4 wonderful days with exploring beautiful San Francisco. Every evening when returning to the apartment after a long sightseeing day, we were happy about the very comfortable and lovely apartment.
We were amazed by the really luxurious bathroom and the comfortable bed. The kitchen provided all the necessary and we enjoyed every morning our breakfast with plenty of the tasty things from the Good Life Grocery (right down on Cortland ave.)
After an already long tour before arriving to SF, we decided to not use the car while being there. It is quite easy to find an adequate parking place close to the apartment. Thanks to Mary and Michael we had plenty of travel guides, city maps and advices to discover the city. The bus ride to the city was quite interesting, it helped ate Bridgefirst ride we met an extremely friendly lady who gave us some helpful advice how to best get to downtown.
We discovered and enjoyed so many places, but the most amazing were the different views on Golden Gate Bridge & the Cable Car rides up and down the steep hill.
We enjoyed a lot our stay at this lovely apartment. Thanks once again to Mary and Michael, we will definitely be staying here when coming back to San Franisco.

Great apartment in a great area

Left on 10/09/2012 for a stay in September 2012

We had a great 9-day stay in San Francisco and after being out exploring each day, how lovely it was to return each night to our lovely, clean and quiet apartment...and rest our weary bodies with a great sleep in a very comfortable bed. We couldn't have chosen a better apartment. It had everything we needed and Mary and Michael were very helpful but not obtrusive. It was so lovely experiencing a real San Francisco suburb with real people rather than large hotels in tourist areas. There was everything we needed on Cortland Street, including a great supermarket to buy produce when we ate in and a myriad of great restaurants (we needed more time to try them all), including fabulous Italian, Peruvian and Nepalese restaurants, a super breakfast place and a coffee house where we became regulars. We wanted for nothing and were spoiled for choice. The number 24 bus stops at the end of the street and gives you a fabulous ride through the suburbs, with numerous stops where you can get off and catch other buses or trains to get into the city. Our personal favourite was transferring at Castro as you were never quite sure what you would see, although our final day when the sun blazed we were treated to the site of naked men wandering the streets, talking and shopping...as they do on hot days apparently! San Francisco is a great city to explore and it was always lovely coming back to our temporary home to rest up for the next day's adventure. Thank you Mary and Michael and the community of Bernal Heights for all your hospitality and the great memories!

We had a Fantastic time in San Francisco. Wonderful unit in a great location and we were really looked after by Mary and Michael.
To stay in a great city and live like a local was a great experience.
We could park our car or catch a bus without any trouble. The locals are friendly and you are close to shops and restaurants. The unit is spotless and very comfortable. I hope to visit again one day.
      Regards

A wonderful sanctuary to return to after busy days!

Left on 08/13/2012 for a stay in August 2012

What a wonderful accommodation! The kitchen is extremely well appointed and easy to work in. The bed is very comfortable and the bathroom is absolutely beautiful! This apartment is very quiet and in a wonderfully eclectic area of San Francisco. We had some wonderful meals, met some very nice people but it was also nice to go to the market to be able to have the odd meal at home. The view from Bernal Hill is breathtaking - as is the climb up there! This location is very handy to public transportation (we did not have a car) but thank goodness we spoke to Mary about our "travels" as she was able to suggest more appropriate routes for what we wanted to do.
Mary and Michael are wonderful hosts and a wealth of knowledge about San Francisco. I would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone who wants to be out of the hustle and bustle of downtown San Francisco but still able to easily access everything that you want to do and see in this beautiful area.

      Wonderful rental in Bernal Heights!

Left on 08/06/2012 for a stay in July 2012

The Ellsworth house is fabulous--spotlessly clean, comfortable, and equipped with all the basic necessities. It is apparent that the owners have put a lot of thought into making this rental a home away from home. Everything we needed was provided; plenty of clean towels, toiletries, etc...not to mention the travel guides, which were extremely helpful! Bernal Heights is a lovely neighbourhood as well, with some great restaurants and cafes. Be sure to visit The Sandbox Bakery!

We had an amazing week in San Francisco, and when we return, we will definitely be booking our stay here.

Perfect Spot for City Exploring and Neighborhood Relaxing

Left on 07/21/2012 for a stay in July 2012

The apartment is lovely, very comfortable and charming, super clean and cozy. Mary and Michael were most welcoming and accommodating and provided good tips for exploring their lovely city and neighborhood (don't miss climbing up to Bernal Heights Park--the view is stunning).

The kitchen is very well equipped and we made good use of it. After a busy day of sightseeing and traipsing around the city it was so nice to pop down to the small market and bring back fixings for dinner and breakfast.

The bed is super comfortable, and the bathroom looks like it belongs in a spa. Very luxurious!

We never had trouble parking nearby the apartment. Public transportation is close, but we ended up driving into the city (with Mary's encouragement) and had no trouble at all.

We loved the books and really appreciated the city guides and maps of San Francisco. We visited Fisherman's Wharf (very crowded and touristy); Golden Gate Park (which was great fun on a Sunday, with live band music and an art show); and drove across Golden Gate Bridge to the Muir Woods (breathtaking!) and lunch in nearby Sausalito.

We would definitely stay here again. Can't recommend highly enough! This apartment was a great value and met our needs perfectly.

The experience of being in Ellsworth house is like if we live there, I mean a real home away home. The apartment is very comfortable, cozy, clean and quiet. Bernal Heights is an excellent option to realy know how San Franciscans live, and is not far from all the tourists neighborhoods. Actually you can go from the apartment to the northern part of the city in only 30 minutes by car. Mary gave us good guidance to travel and dinner on the city. There were many guides and maps on Michaels library too. The personal attention of Mary was a plus. Thanks again Mary and Michael, we enjoyed our stay at your place.

We arrived on a Saturday and were able to find street parking. Beautiful house in Bernal. The apartment is so nice, quiet, and super clean. Great kitchen, bedroom with small sitting area, large closets, and huge glorious bathroom. There's also a washer and dryer that was very useful to us! The apartment is very close to the main street in Bernal and there is a fab grocery store a couple blocks away. The apartment was so great, we actually stayed in to enjoy it. Directly up the street is the Bernal Heights Park with a beautiful view of SF and beyond. The apartment is in a very safe neighborhood and is close to the Mission District. We ate at most of the local restaurants and visited the shops. We rarely had any problems finding street parking during our stay.
The owners are extremely helpful and very nice. We arrived to find a beautiful bottle of wine on the kitchen table, it was our honeymoon!
Perfect place to stay and we are looking forward to returning!!!

      Great apartment for this price

Left on 07/24/2011 for a stay in July 2011

This was the first leg of our west coast trip and it started my wife and I out on a great note. This apartment has on street parking which was relatively easy to find (Turn your wheels into the curb or face a city fine of $75-so the car doesn't accidently roll down the hill). It has an entrance through the garage (which was very clean) into the a hallway that leads to the apartment. The kitchen contains everything you need for meals. We walked down the hill and couple of blocks to get to the organic grocery store for supplies. The bedroom is comfortable. With a little furniture arrangement, we had room for our luggage. Closets are there if you need them. The bathroom is well laid out and nicely decorated. The shower is wide open, if that matters to you (no curtain or glass). The view out the back isn't much, but there are some flowering trees with hummingbirds flying up to feed.

I am a runner, and a few blocks up the hill is a great park with awesome views of the bay. I recommend it.

For the price, I think was a great place to stay. We will stay there again if we return to San Fracisco.

Our hosts, Mary Elsea and her husband Michael Hull were hospitable and knowlegable about San Francisco. The apartment has a separate entrance and each room has a view of the bay. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking and one wall is filled with books, floor to ceiling which you are welcome to browse and read. The bedroom has new carpet, fresh paint and art on the walls. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The elegantly remodeled bathroom has a huge shower, heated tile floors, and a beautiful vanity. It was my favorite part of the apartment. The entire apartment is scrupulously clean. Walk a block south from the apartment to lively Cortland ave. for shops and restaurants. Head two blocks north to Bernal Heights park to walk the open space and enjoy views of the city and the bay. The neighborhood is quiet. Being San Francisco, parking can be scarce, but I always found a spot close to the house. This apartment was a tranquil oasis in the midst of the city.

We loved staying in this comfortable apartment in Bernal Heights, a quiet and quaint residential neighborhood. The apartment is a fabulous place to stay while visiting San Francisco. Mary and Michael were so helpful in orienting us to the neighborhood which had many restaurants, shops and a wonderful place to hike to see the panoramic views of the city. Parking was easy, although we decided to use public transportation which was very close to the apartment.
We loved looking over the garden while eating breakfast in the fully equipped kitchen. Wow-what a great, new bathroom-heated floors and a walk-in shower. Our Olympic TV time was made more enjoyable watching the HDTV in the very comfortable and luxurious bed.
We'd recommend this charming apartment to future visitorsand we will definitely return.

Left on 02/21/2010 for a stay in July 2009

While visiting family in the Bernal Heights neighborhood we stayed at this quaint apartment called Ellsworth House. The delightful neighborhood offered plenty of shopping and many ethnic restaurants within walking distance. The newly remodeled apartment was quite affordable and clean. We were most impressed by the gorgeous bathroom. Beautiful artwork adorned the walls throughout the apartment. The apartment provided everything that we needed to make our stay a comfortable one. I will definitely book Ellsworth House again for our next trip to San Francisco.
