While the photos looked nice and it was in an excellent part of town I longed to have stayed elsewhere the whole time we were there.
The king size bed was very uncomfortable. Upon investigating why it was so uncomfortable with dirty comforters I found it was in fact two air mattresses put together with foam wrapped around them to keep them together, which didn't work.
I also opted to use a air mattress for my young son to sleep on but the one provided had a hole in it. We randomly found an extra mattress in the storage until in the basement. Until then he spent many a night sliding off the the bed and sometimes in bed with us which made for a very unrestful night.
Also, the heat wasn't easy to regulate. It got very hot in parts of the apartment but stayed cold in other parts. I would have killed for a fan since opening our windows to a very noisy street out front wasn't an option.
It was sort of clean but would say the furniture and bedding all needed a thorough cleaning. I did wash some items that were visibly dirty which gave me a phycological itch. It is old and that's part of it's charm but you could hear the neighbors loud and clear and the people, trains and cars on the street as well. Where there were holes in the wall there were silk plants to cover it up.
I also didn't feel secure knowing the key code was available to all who used it. A random person said he was a caretaker but I had a hard time believing it due to his casual nature and lack of any professionalism. It all left me feeling a bit uneasy.
The only thing going for this place was the location. The neighborhood was lovely but if you plan to venture into the heart of the city it takes forever to get into town. Not because of transportation but because it's quite a ride out of the city centre.
All in all it was difficult to relax and unsecure. -

We stayed one week at Carl Cole B booked via cometosf.com. 5 of us so used all 3 bedrooms.
Highlights:
* apartment full of character with interesting decor and plenty of space, with fab views over city from kitchen and lounge
* very well cleaned considering apartment size and age
* main bedroom had very cool King size 4 poster bed - huge bed!
* superb location, short walk to Haight and Golden Gate Park as well as one block to Muni N tram stop - tram goes past apartment but is quiet
* nice street, and short walk to nice coffee places and restaurants on Carl/Cole intersection
* we had car, and Ucsf medical centre car park garage is 10 min walk and open 24 hours and always plenty of space, very convenient
* lots of storage cupboard to put away suitcases, etc
* on first day we found hairdryer was not working - we called cometosf.com and replacement was provided same day, excellent service.
The only one downside for us was sound carrying from apartment above - all footsteps carried down which was annoying in morning and late at night, especially kids running up and down the long hallway.
So apart from the noise from above, was a great rental. -

Came to SF with my in-laws and husband. Went for a vaca rental for the value (hotel rooms for 7 people can get pricey). This little place perfectly suited our needs!
Location: It was close to public transportation, few minutes by bus to downtown, and in a clean, safe neighborhood. I did not see any homeless people wandering around or feel threatened at all. Close to Haight/Ashbury shopping. Walking distance to grocery stores.
Rooms: Spacious, clean, extremely comfortable beds. Slept like a baby every single night despite street lights and the train that whizzed by from time to time. The place was beautifully decorated. You can tell the owner put his/her special touches into it and cares very much about the impression it leaves on their guests. I appreciated that a lot.
Cleanliness: My issue is that my standard of cleanliness is probably higher than most people's so I was a bit turned off when i saw that the table cloth and place settings still had food spots on them from the last person that stayed there (they were not just stained, they just had not been washed). There was chewed gum and a thick layer of dust in one of the vases in our room, as well. I say this not to discourage people from going (because it is a very nice place to stay) but so the owners can be made aware that this was a turn-off and it may be worth their time to hire a maid to come through between visitors. Otherwise the place was pretty clean for the most part and looked as if it had been recently painted.
(Heads up that we had signs of mice there. We never heard any or saw any so not a big deal, but they had a nice feast off of one of our fresh peaches. After we found that we promptly decided to keep the fruit in the fridge or covered. Never had a problem after that. Did not see any bugs, which is a huge deal for me. Yay! No bugs!!)
Backyard: I did have a slight issue with the back garden area. We never used it because it was pretty messy. There were old patio furniture strewn about and paint cans, buckets, plastic items sitting around. It was not in the best shape and certainly did not look like the pictures, but I think it could be charming with a little elbow grease.
Kitchen: it was awesome to have a kitchen with all the amenities of home. To save money on food we would just stop by the Whole Foods on our way back at the end of the day and make a nice dinner. When you've been walking in the cold, humid SF air for hours it's nice to come back to a warm, comfy condo and relax with some cocktails and a hot, homemade meal... and then crash into bed to gear up for another fun day.
Overall, very good experience. Very comfortable and lovely vacation rental. Would definitely recommend and would definitely go back!Response from Come2SF San Francisco Vacation Rentals - 11/09/2011

These guests were awesome and we really appreciated their feed back. Housekeeping was made aware of cleaning details such as table cloths and inside of vases. No one ever did see a mouse, but we had pest control over to treat the whole building anyway. So if there were mice, they are no more. As for the garden we also did a clean up, and yes we had just painted the unit again. The crew was still painting on the garden level and service areas and had left their cans, poles, and various buckets around the back yard. That was all taken care of and cleaned up once the job was completed.

This apartment is spacious and very elegant. We were four adults and found we had plenty of space to be solitary or together. The local shops are first rate and the trams into town most convenient. There was some noise from the trams passing at night but we still slept well.

Apartment was just as presented online. It was within walking distance of everything we needed. Kitchen was spacious and plenty of lounging room. Only complaint is master bed was bumpy. We will definitely consider this same unit again!
