We had 10 nights at this condo. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable and the location was perfect for anyone without a car as it was right on the Powell/Mason Cable Car line and half a block to Colombus avenue with plenty of taxis passing by. Also, only a ten minute walk to Safeways to stock up on some supplies and 15 minute walk to Pier 39 and Fishermans Wharf. The condos are in the heart of North Beach with a multitude of Italian restaurants and Chinatown close by where we sampled the delicious Yum Cha lunch. The only problem we had with the condo was the lock box which contained the keys as we arrived in the dark and it was dark when we left and there is no light at the front door to see what numbers you are dialling on the lock box. I would suggest anyone who is arriving/leaving in the dark to have a flashlight to make this task much easier. We did experience some trouble with the front door buzzer going off at all odd hours (no-one there). We reported the problem to the owner but it is an intermittent thing so don't know whether it will be fixed. (It did happen again but we didn't bother calling her. However, if the owner reads this review, perhaps she should have an electrician look at the problem as it can be very annoying in the middle of the night.
Response from tam - 05/30/2013
Owner
Thank you for taking the time to write the review. Glad you were able to quickly adapt and use the public transportations. That's pretty impressive. My electrician came by to check into the door bell per your suggestion and was completely baffled. However, since he was already there, we replaced the door bell inside the unit. I appreciate your feedback regarding the light at the front door. The neighborhood is very sensitive to noise and light pollution, and do not want us to leave lights on. We had to remove a motion sensor light because there are so many pedestrians in the neighborhood that it was staying on all the time. However, I will ask my electrician to investigate some way to install a light at the front that our guests can use on a as needed basis. Thank you again for your feedback

We stayed here for five nights over Easter. The apartment was well-equipped, spotless and quiet. The owner was very easy to deal with and we would recommend her and the property. The location is great with lots of restaurants and cafes in easy walking distance and with good connections to other parts of the city.

GentPerfect location, nice place
Left on 04/10/2013 for a stay in March 2013
We stayed here for 4 nights with our 16 month old son and it was just perfect. The flat is huge and I love the feel of the place, authentic. The location is just perfect, you can walk many places and if you want to go a little further the cablecar stops just in front of the appartment. Many nice restaurants and coffee shops on a walking distance.
I loved to have a fully equiped kitchen and washer and dryer available, there was a high chair for our son,...
The only downside was that we were a bit cold in the mornings of the first days, we stayed in March and nights are chilly abd the only heater we managed to get to work was in the hall, especially the bathroom was too cold to bathe the toddler. But after two days the sun warmed the whole place (there were extra electrical heaters but they were too dangerous to use with our son around).
Booking the flat and making all the arrangements went really easy and we received a lot of info about the area, very usefull. I can really recommend this place. -

We loved the location, right off Columbus in No. Beach, but still residential. The flat held me, my wife and two teenage daughters pretty well (the living room can be closed off too, if needed for a third BR). The dining room and kitchen are relatively huge. The cable car stops in front of the building (get a pass)! My favorite morning coffee place was 1/2 block north (downhill) on Columbus: Beacon Coffee and Pantry. (The other No. Beach places had great atmosphere but mostly unimpressive coffee, except for La Boulange.)

St Cloud, MNExcellent Rental in San Francisco!
Left on 01/13/2013 for a stay in December 2012
Our family of 5 adults recently rented the middle floor of this property. We were very comfortable in this space - much nicer than renting hotel rooms! The unit was very clean & spacious, with a living room, two bedrooms, dining room, bathroom & well equipped kitchen. There were more than enough extra pillows, blankets & towels for our group. Having the washer & dryer available to use was very convenient. The listing and photographs were accurate.
The owner was excellent to work with prior to and during our visit. She sent very detailed information about the unit itself, area attractions & restaurants, parking garages/lots nearby and transportation options (public transportation, private car service, etc.). We did have a few minor issues with our accommodations during our stay - I emailed the owner (using the included Wi-Fi) and received immediate satisfactory responses! Thanks, Tam!
We had planned on doing some light cooking in our unit, but with all the great restaurants within walking distance, we ended up only having light snacks with our wine before dinner! Some of our favorites: Caffe DuLucchi, Tony's Pizza Napoletana, Scoma's & of course the Buena Vista for Irish coffee!
It was very convenient to be within walking distance of virtually everything we wanted to see in San Francisco. We easily walked to the Wharf, China Town & Union Square, all on virtually level streets. It's very convenient for people who cannot manage the inclines of some of the area's steep hills!
I would highly recommend this rental to anyone visiting San Francisco! The only issue we had with this property was the lack of electrical outlets. This is certainly not the fault of the owner. When you have 5 people wanting to charge their phones, iPads/iPods, laptops, etc. outlets are very much in demand! Thank you for sharing your property! -

We arrived late at night from Sydney, had no trouble accessing the building and we were very comfortable. Great location within walking distance to Washington Square and lots of restaurants. The owner Tam, sent through lots of information about good places to eat and transport options which were all great. The rates were excellent and the best part was we could relax in a home environment rather than a hotel. Tam has also contacted us to advise she has credited the security deposit.

If you are looking for glamor, this isn't it. While heat and bathroom has been updated, most of the rest of the flat reflects the time period in which it was built. However, it was immaculate--and four times the size of the average luxurious hotel room in San Francisco would be. The washing machine was a plus. As described, cable car stops in front of the building. Fisherman's Wharf is an easy 12 blocks away and easy to walk to; Trader Joe's less than that. A few blocks in the other direction are Little Italy and Chinatown. You can see the bay from the window in the top flat. Tam, the owner, provided us with a great deal of information about the area. Her suggestion to arrange towncar pick-up from the airport was wonderful; the drivers were helpful and made our trip both to and from the airport easy.
Some advice: if you are arriving late in the day, take coffee and breakfast with you on the plane. Our plane was delayed and we arrived at 10 pm in pouring rain, too late to buy food; our dinner was peanut butter and crackers I had packed in the suitcase. The next morning, with the fog so deep and gloomy that I could not see above the buildings across the street, I thought I had made a mistake in not staying at hotel. Yet Urbanspoon led us to Pat's Cafe, a wonderful local breakfast place a few blocks away, where we crossed Lombard street on our way and could see the famous crooked street. The fog lifted and all was good. Also take very warm clothes; 72 in NC, where we are from, is t-shirt- and-shorts weather; in SF, it is four-layers-of-clothes weather.Response from tam - 12/01/2012
Owner
So glad to hear you had a good visit to San Francisco. We are actually 7.5 blocks away from Fisherman's Wharf if you walk straight down Mason Street. We find the town car service convenient and cost effective if you have 2 or more people. Thanks for the Urbanspoon tip, I will try it as well. Thank you

Left on 10/26/2012 for a stay in October 2012
My daughter and I recently stayed on the top level of this rental. The building has an authentic feel to it. The advantage of being on the top floor is the lovely view from the front bay window, and the close proximity to the washer and dryer. There's a lot to see all within walking distance and our feet got a good, healthy work out. We also purchased City passes that gave us unlimited rides on all muni public transportation including buses and cable cars. We were on and off the Powell/Mason cable car line daily, which stops practically at the front door of the apartment. We also took buses to Japan Town, Golden Gate Park and to a downtown convention. Bus stops are just a very short walk away. Even without a car we were able to hit all of the spots on our list of things we wanted to see/do. I'm vegan and I was able to find many nearby options that fit into my diet. I highly recommend to other vegans, Hot Spud on Mason Street (between Beach and Jefferson) and Loving Hut at Westfield Shopping Centre. Having a full kitchen and a nearly Safeway made eating quick, light meals easy before or after a full day of adventure.

ChicagoComfortable Flat in awesome Location
Left on 10/10/2012 for a stay in October 2012
Stayed here for 3 days during busy week (America's Cup, Fleet Week, etc.), and was worried that being in the heart of North Beach would be noisy. We got the top floor, and it was very quiet. Good view from the window, directly over the cable cars looking out over the bay, Coit Tower and the church.
I have to say that the flat is older and the kitchen is a bit 'urban rustic', with metal cabinets, linoleum floor, and no dishwasher, and the flat only had basic antenna TV. But, it was very comfortable for us, and everything worked. We had friends over, and they commented about how great it was. There are even laundry washer/dryer on the back porch. We felt safe there, and had plenty of room.
The owner gave us great lists of restaurants and sights to see. It's comfortable walking distance to Chinatown, Coit Tower (that's a climb), Fisherman's Wharf, Marina Green, and everything. We bought Muni passes and never used them. The Italian restaurants in the neighborhood are great (eg: Firenzi by Night, Trattoria Contadina..). The roof provides nice views, but we were afraid to put any chairs up there in case they poked holes in the soft surface. As the owner says, the roof is no place for little kids or less than sober adults.
We parked the car at 1625 Powell St (about 2 blocks) and negotiated a 3-day cash price with in-out privileges for $30/day (reg $40 - remember it was Fleet Week).
All in all, the stay was easy and the location was awesome. A definite do-again.Response from tam - 11/09/2012
Owner
Your stay was during one of the most popular time of the year in the neighborhood due to fleet week, the parade passes right by at the corner of Mason and Columbus. I'm sorry you were not able to watch cable TV. I will provide more detailed instructions on how to access the cable TV from the remote controls because we have always had cable TV in each unit for well over ten years. We discontinued dish network because of the spotty service and opted for standard cable TV individually in each unit as cable has more consistent service and we did not want to share the same cable service amongst the unit to elimitate potential problems affecting all units. Thank you for letting me know and I will make sure to revise our information letter to provide better instructions on cable TV access.

We have arrived back in Melbourne and had a fantastic holiday in the us. In particular we loved San Francisco and had an amazing time using your apartment.
Thank you for your quick return of the deposit. Much appreciated. The apartment is in a fantastic location which meant we were able to see and do so much without the use of cars or public transport. I will definitely be recommending your place to some of my friends who will be visiting San Francisco in Sept 2013.

Past reviewers have said It all -
The apartment itself is not the lap of luxury. The bathroom is tiny. The beds are reasonably comfortable and the lounge room has one comfy sofa and another made of wicker. The kitchen and eating area is spacious. Our apartment needed some TLC. But we were happy there and enjoyed the whole experience of living San Francisco style!
But we rarely enjoyed the apartment! We were never there. I thought I would cook. We only used the kitchen for breakfast. And even then we enjoyed eating out a couple of times instead of eating our granola. The apartment is in a fabulous location. You are literally five minutes from little Italy and fifteen minutes from china town. You can eat to your heart's content. Fishermen's warf is a few blocks away and the cable car runs down the street (you can hear it at night).
Tam makes everything east for you. She has compiled a list of restaurants etc that are very helpful.
The washing machine and drier were Samsung and didn't destroy our clothes.
Great place - would stay here again. -

Sylvan Lake, Alberta, CanadaAmazing Location!!
Left on 09/11/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We stayed here for a week during Outside Lands festival and fell in love with this property! We had the 3rd floor unit and the views were amazing! You can see the ocean, Coit Tower, Saints Peter & Paul church from the living room windows, as well as alcatraz Island from the roof. The house had plenty of room and it was very nice to be able to unpack our clothes into the dressers and hang things that needed hanging. As well, there is a washer and dryer - which means you don't need to bring as many clothes and you can throw a load in before you leave so that you don't have to do a bunch of laundry once you get home! The location is amazing, as it is only 6 blocks to Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39, 2 blocks from Lombard St. (Crookedest street in the world) and a few blocks to Coit Tower. It is also in the "Little Italy" district, which means tons of fantastic Italian restaurants to choose from, as well as shops, art stores, etc. There is parking very near by if you are driving. If not, the trolly car stops just a few doors down! We loved hearing the and watching the trolly go past the house! There are also busses you can take for $2. We discovered "Uber Cab" - you just text them the address where you are and the address where you're going and they tell you when they'll be there (usually between 2 and 6 minutes is what we found). It's a little bit more than a regular cab but so convenient and they pick you up in a town car. Payment is done through a credit card on your phone - tip and everything. You can also track them to see how far away they are. But public transit is good too and the local people are willing to help you find your way, in terms of what bus or trolly to take.

Just around the corner is Columbus, Italian restaurant, cafe, bakeries... Again, walking distance on Columbus to City Lights Bookstore, Chinatown... We found parking right next door for the rental car we got the last day to go to Napa. There are 2 grocery stores right by we visited each day just walking. This spot is just incredible, clean, washer/dryer. Go to roof top and watch the view! A document was offered by owner with valuable information on SF... Absolutely filled with everything there needs to know about SF and around the house... Loved it.

It was an easy 10min walk to fishermans wharf, theres a cable car stop just outside the apartment which takes you to union square in 15mins, you are surrounded by lovely italian restaurants and a massive playground across the road for the children which they loved. The apartment has everything you need including a washing machine and dryer, fully equipped kitchen etc...very cosy and a safe area to walk around at night which is important with children. I was staying with a friend for 10 nights and realy enjoyed the appartment.
The location was close to everything - you do not realy need the daily transport pass.
It is a safe area, unlike Union square or city hall, we felt safe to walk there in the evenings.
Columbus street has a great variety of restaurants, bars and is very lively. Just few blocks from the appartment.
Driving was very easy as we were against the traffic. We rented from avis in Fisherman's Wharf and they let you drop the car at their parking lot on the last night, which is very convinient. The Italian guy in the restaurant on Columbus@Filbert was easy to deal with about parking.
And last, the bike rent on Mason (yellow sign is very friendly) we had a ride on Sunday early morning, which was amazing.

We spent four nights in the top floor apartment with our daughter and four year old grandson. The apartment's location in the heart of North Beach couldn't have been better, within walking distance of Fishermen's Wharf, Chinatown, and a short hike to Union Square. There are restaurants galore, and even a playground across the street. We looked across the roof tops to views of the bay with its ship traffic, and below our window a cable car ran. Even though it is located close to so much activity, the apartment was surprisingly quiet, especially after the cable cars stopped running around 10:00PM. The apartment is simply furnished, but everything that we needed was provided. We would definitely stay there again. P.S. Tam, the owner is very easy to deal with.

Portland, Oregongreat location, great owner. Bare bones apt.
Left on 09/13/2011 for a stay in August 2011
This will be a long, detailed review, so feel free to jump out now if details bore you. ;-)
First to get the initial disappointments out of the way, I'll say that our memory of the photos made the apt. look more appealing than it is.
Like so many apartment houses in SFO, this apt. is very old. Upon entering the security gate & front door you're greeted with a musty smell that seems to be emanating from the stairs' inexpensive dark red indoor/outdoor type carpeting (which needed vacuuming.)
The apt. was clean with a couple of exceptions. A couple of kitchen utensils which were
put back in the drawer unwashed & required scraping to get them clean. Furnishings can be described as an"eclectic" inexpensive mix of " sparse and spartan."
There is no comfortable couch or even a chair in which to relax, to nap, to read, or watch to TV in the living room. Everyone (4 people) complained that the mattresses were
too old/ soft and creaked & groaned. It would have been nice to have better quality
linens, but they were clean except for an unappealing but not disgusting spot on the mattress pad which was visible through a rather thin bottom sheet.
The bedrooms are small. The one closest to the bath has a dresser, a door-less closet and two night stands, but only one lamp, which made joint reading before sleep impossible. The other light source in the room was an old two-socket ceiling light over the bed w/ one CFL bulb. Two lengths of knotted-together white string provided the on/off function. This bedroom was painted light blue, with an uncomplimentary green synthetic faux brocade drapery over the long window (which afforded a typical SFO "view" of the building next door 3 feet away.) If decor is at the top of your list, this is not the place for you.
The bath is small and excepting the missing inside door knob it was clean and functional. The shower liner had the beginnings of a growth of pink mold which bleach spray and a scrub sponge could have removed. There should be a working exhaust fan, especially when four adults are showering consecutively as we were. All in all, it was basic & fine.
The kitchen is big with a good fridge & stove and and large pantry. Most of the pots &
pans you'd need are provided as are kitchen utensils. A blender and wine and juice glasses were missing. (There was one small white wine glass.)
Taking the garbage down to the basement is part of the rental agreement along with
laundering the sheets and putting them in the dryer before leaving. The basement is dank
& dark and it was not possible to find a light switch without a flashlight. Fortunately we brought a flashlight because the one provided had dead batteries. The basement is very dark, even in daylight and it is necessary to navigate two turns to get to the garbage can area. Whoever is charged with cleaning the apt. should be responsible for bringing the garbage down. No guest renter should be expected take garbage down to this scary, and possibly dangerous basement (you have to watch your footing on the stairs and basement floor).
The last two nights of our stay on the second floor, a family with children occupied the
3rd floor apt and it got pretty noisy. ( My European cousins asked if they were moving
furniture around upstairs.) We always travel with earplugs, and I heartily suggest them
as a useful travel item if you don't haven't used them.
Now for the plusses... and there are many. The owner, Tam Dorrow, who lives in a city far from SFO, is very nice and wonderfully helpful. She made the entire checking in process very easy
from initial contact to using the code to get the keys from the lockbox on the security gate.
The printed list of suggestions for restaurants and touristic interests in and beyond
San Francisco is terrific. We found that we were out of the apartment most of the time
and were very happy to come "home" take a shower, make something to eat and hit
the sack. The location, as described, really couldn't be better. We made use of the
Trader Joe's just a few blocks down Mason St. and walked to most tourist places and
to restaurants in North beach, which absolutely is the best and most interesting (in my humble opinion) neighborhood in San Francisco. We also looked around and found
overnight parking on the street that enabled us to park until 10am the next morning.
Then you can look for parking again for another two hours. It takes looking, but it
beats paying the high fees in the public lots. Again, the location is really terrific.
With a couple of new mattresses and a few new throw rugs near the beds, I
do--recommend this rental. We got over our complaints quickly and had a great time. -

Portland, OregonGreat place to stay and explore San Francisco
Left on 09/06/2011 for a stay in June 2011
We were thrilled when we pulled up to our apartment and realized just how close it was to so many things we wanted to see in San Francisco. We spent days walking to Chinatown, Fisherman's Wharf, the farmers' market, Coit Tower, downtown and more. At night we would stroll to Columbus St. and choose an Italian restaurant for dinner-they were all good and different enough to satisfy us for a week. We cooked in a couple of nights too; grocery stores are conveniently located a couple of blocks away.
We wouldn't hesitate to return or recommend it to our friends. -

Melbourne AustraliaGreat Location

We stayed on the top floor of these apartments In august, the location was perfect for our needs, the apartment was very clean and bright and just how it is in the pictures. Tam was great to deal with, very efficient and more than helpful with her advice and tips. We went on the alcatraz tour and we just nominated a hotel just around the corner to collect and drop us off it was all very easy. when we went for a walk downtown it was just a short stroll back to the apartments, it was much closer to most things than we first thought, highly recommend these apartments and will be going back myself when i return next time.
The views from the top were great as well and the noise of the tram car out front didn't bother any of us at all, most of all it was nice to feel part of the community in our own little place rather than a hotel room.. -

San DiegoIt was fantastic!

This was our returning trip and we loved it the first time even though there was a chill in the air and we had to put the heating on. Our visit this year was warm, sunny and fabulous. The location of this rental could not be any better, look in every direction and there is something you want to do within a few blocks. Each unit is clean, large and spacious with a large light filled front living room that also has a pull out sofa bed for extra guests. The bathroom is well appointed and stocked with all your travel needs, such as shampoo and hair dryers. The kitchen is a home away from home, but you may never need to use it with all the restaurants within walking distance. This is the San Francisco experience, staying in a building with all the period detail the city has to offer and location, location, location! We can't wait to go back.
