Bastia, FranceUn petit paradis !
Left on 04/29/2013 for a stay in April 2013

Montreal, CanadaOur Home away From Home!!!
Left on 10/27/2012 for a stay in October 2012
We stayed here for about a week and could not have picked a better place! Seeing how hotel rooms for a family with young children are too cramped we decided to rent the Cottage. From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed and comfortable. The children had their own room and Daryl and Mark even left them activity books as gifts on their beds. We were told that the cottage would come with some amenities but never thought that we would have as much as we did. Normally hotels leave small bottles of shampoo, shower gels and other things but we had large bottles of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and also Thomas the Train bubble bath for the children ( which thrilled our 3 year old!). The fridge was stocked with juice, eggs, bacon, yogurt, cookies, bread and lots of other goodies. Normally when we rent condos on vacation we hardly get a roll of toilet paper so all this was a great treat! The location was excellent. Within walking distance on Union Street with its restaurants and shops. Also close to bus and cable cars so easy access to the entire city. We had a marvellous time and strongly recommend the Cottage. Thanks to Daryl and Mark!

Rochester, MinnesotaWonderful Cozy Retreat
Left on 09/07/2012 for a stay in June 2012
This was a wonderful property to spend time at for our family vacation. The location is off the street with a separate entrance from the main house which makes it feel private. The cottage is wonderfully maintained and has many small personal touches that make it feel like home. It is very well decorated and has a wonderful quiet back porch area to sit, drink coffee and read. Everything you could possibly need is provided for you, shampoo, soap, lotion, etc. The extra touch of having some simple food staples already in the refrigerator was wonderful and the fresh flowers were a welcome touch. This is the first time we have rented a property through Trip advisor and the Nelson Cottage has set the bar for future rentals very high for us. I just can't imagine any other property meeting these standards. I highly recommend this cottage for small families, couples and people who are interested in a quiet relaxing atmosphere after a long day of sight seeing. Being one block from Union Street is also a plus.

After nearly 4 weeks of staying in hotels while on our holiday to the USa with our 2 daughters, aged 7 and 9, we were so pleased to arrive at Nelsons Cottage. We were greated by Daryl and Mark and they were so friendly and helpfull. The cottage is gorgeous and very clean. Everything was there that you could possibly need and more. They had even put chocolates out for the kids and some childrens books and Dvds for them to look at. Felt like being at home! Everything in the cottage was of very high quality and very well presented. Location was excellent and easy walking distance to shops and restaurants/take away places. Also very close to Fishermans Wharf. Can only describe it as perfect!! Thank you so much Daryl and Mark, you made our stay in San Francisco a wonderfull experience.

Loved the cottage and could not have asked for more in terms of comfort and facilities.Friendly and welcoming hosts have provided lovely touches to a private, charming cottage. Location was great. Shops ,cafes, transport, beautiful walks and architecture all there and easy access to all that San Francisco has to offer. Had a fantastic stay and have reccomended Nelson's Cottage to both friends and family and hope to return for another stay soon. Especially loved the fluffy bathrobes,well-equipped kitchen and bathroom, fresh flowers, chocolates and the Christmas wreath on our front door! One of the nicest places we have stayed.

We had a wonderful time staying in Daryl an Mark cottage. They are the perfect hosts: kind, ready to help, smiling, easy going without loosing a lovely elegance.
The cottage is a little vacation dream place, extremely comfortable, very well conceived . Wonderful kitchen and super comfortable beds (rare in this type of accommodation )
We want to be back as soon as we will have the opportunity.
Thank you both of you "du fond du cœur" as we say in French.

We had an amazing stay at this cottage and were welcomed warmly by both Daryl and Mark. We arrived to the most lovely cottage filled with fresh flowers, breakfast food etc. The cottage was spacious, very clean, great bath to soak in and the beds...amazing!! It was an excellent base to explore San Fran from and with the help of Daryl we hit a few local spots unknown by many. Daryl and Mark are amazing hosts and when our accommodation fell through in NY they offered support and friendship while we found alternative rooms. If you're coming to SF and want a place that feels like home...your search is over. We will be back

Left on 09/20/2011 for a stay in September 2011
We stayed at Nelson's Cottage for six nights at the end of a three week holiday travelling around California, the idea being to relax and have the time to better experience San Francisco, to try to live a little as San Franciscans... well, without having to go off to work each day!
Nelson's Cottage did not disappoint and fully deserves a five star review. From the moment of arrival through to our departure day, we both loved our stay and should we hopefully return to the city in the future, we would very much like to stay there again if we are able!
Booking formalities completed pre-holiday, Daryl (the owner) had sent comprehensive directions and we arranged an arrival time between 7pm & 8pm. Having rung from the freeway to advise a more accurate eta, we found Green Street OK but were driving around looking a little lost... not to worry as Daryl had been keeping an eye out for us and emerged on the sidewalk to wave us in! Much appreciated!
Daryl then escorted us through to the cottage which is in the back of her lovely Victorian house. She showed us around and made us welcome, explaining how everything worked but also stressing for us to ring her if we had any problems or questions. All really nice and really helped make us feel at home.
The cottage itself was lovely - two double bedrooms with a connecting 'Jack & Jill' bathroom, with a good shower, plus a fully equipped kitchen and a very comfortable lounge, complete with cable TV. Wooden flooring throughout and lots of extra towels, pillows and blankets if we needed them. We were welcome to use the little lawn area out front but we also had a totally private decking area at the rear of the cottage so we used that instead. Everything was beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean so we felt comfortable from the start.
Everything in the cottage was available to be used, including staples such as coffee, sugar, spices etc, but on top of this Daryl had provided some basic provisions to kick us off - water, juice, milk, bacon, eggs, yoghurt, crumpets, cereals and a full fruit bowl as well. All very welcome and again helped us settle in straight away!
Location-wise the cottage is located in a smart neighbourhood, just one street away from the bars, restaurants & shops of Union Street where we discovered a bar called Perrys which we liked very much. A small general store and a delicious deli were within a couple of minutes walk on Green Street itself.
We like walking so can confirm that it takes about 30-40 minutes to walk from the cottage to the bay and it was a really nice walk one morning too. We also used the historic cable cars on several occassions, walking up in the morning and down in the evening to & from Hyde!
We would be unable and certainly unwilling to find fault with Nelson's Cottage and we very much enjoyed our stay. It was just what we wanted so our thanks go to Daryl and we very much hope that we may return in the future! In the meantime, Nelson's Cottage is thoroughly recommended to anyone who may be seeking a similar experience in San Francisco! -

We were warmly welcomed by hosts and allowed to store our luggage in the garage, as we arrived early. We were then given directions to cafes nearby, so we could have breakfast. A wide selection of restaurants are within walking distance.
The cottage is very cosy and bright and airy. It was lovely to have our own private garden and the open fire in the living room was put to good use, as the evenings were chilly. We also appreciated the provisions left in the kitchen, as well as the wine and fresh flowers.
We also put to good use the recommendations for restaurants and sights to see. Most of our sight seeing was done by walking or bus, and the bus stops were close by.
All in all a very comfortable cottage in a great location with lovely hosts. -

I found this cottage rental while looking for a place for my husband and I to stay with our friends from New Jersey. Daryl, the owner, was very helpful, first with her e-mails and then showing us around when we arrived. We were delighted to find the cottage so nicely furnished and well provisioned with food staples and lovely fruit and flowers.
The cottage, tucked away at the back of the garden of their beautiful Victorian, was delightful and perfect for two couples. The kitchen was well equipped and gave us good opportunities to whip up suppers with food we bought at the Safeway in the Marina, at the Farmers Market or in local corner stores. It was also very nice to sip a glass of wine and enjoy the sun on the hidden terrace.
My husband and I have been to San Francisco many times. We have stayed in several places, but usually downtown. We have always enjoyed Union Street with its wonderful restaurants and were so pleased with the cottage, its proximity to bus routes and easy walking distance to aquatic Park etc that we plan to make it our preferred San Francisco base.
We really felt like we were at home here. Daryl and Mark bent over backwards to make our stay successful and to quickly sort out the little problems we had (nothing more than an unplugged server and an overactive smoke alarm!). The WiFi service was a little unpredictable, but I don't think the damp weather helped. Despite their graciousness, even our hosts couldn't ensure perfect weather every day! -

Every detail was in place to ensure guests could come right from airport to cottage and be able to get a good night's sleep and have coffee, tea, and breakfast in the morning. Beautifully decorated, with a suitable range of Dvds, books, a local attraction directory, an abundance of luxury towels, amazing bath, comfy beds and a private terrace fit for sunbathing or just relaxing with only greenery and birds around you. Located only a walking distance from bus, and even closer to excellent restaurants and the amazing Victorian houses San Francisco is known for. Great for those who'd like to cook some meals, eat out others, and just relax in what felt like a private, expensive hideaway. Daryl and Mark were both very welcoming and we hope to return some time in the future. Highly recommended.

We felt at ease instantly in Mark and Daryl's cottage. Every possible detail is looked after in their superbly designed and decorated home away from home. We really enjoyed relaxing here after a busy day seeing the sights. Viewing the lush garden from the kitchen table, lounging on the deck behind the house, sinking into the top class beds. A wonderful hideaway and very close to all the attractions. This is as good as it gets! We hope to be guests here again someday.

Nelson's Cottage provided perfect accommodations for our recent visit to San Francisco. Located in the lovely Cow Hollow neighborhood, the cottage is nestled behind the main house, a stunning Victorian on Green Street, and is every bit as charming as the pictures portray. For a few days we felt as if we had a home in San Francisco. The cottage was clean and cozy, our hosts were charming, the beds were comfy, the kitchen was well provisioned and all was right with the world! We especially enjoyed the private patio out back where we could take a break from our adventures and relax.
The Cow Hollow neighborhood is a delight with an eclectic variety of cafes, shops, pubs, day spas. There was something to suit everyone in our group. We didn't have a car but the location of the cottage made it easy to explore SF. Fisherman's Wharf, Ghirardelli Square, Palace of Fine arts and the Presidio are within walking distance if you have 20 - 30 minutes for a stroll. If not, cabs and public transportation were readily available on Union Street just a block away.

Sunshine Beach, AustraliaA truly memorable stay in San Francisco
Left on 01/11/2011 for a stay in December 2010
This wonderful cottage set in a very vibrant and convenient location was definately one of our favourite holiday stays. Our family of four (children 11 and 13) stayed here for Christmas 2010, and if we could not be at home, then there was no better place to be but the Nelson's cottage.
This cottage is equipped with all the home comforts, plus many extras which are certainly not standard at most holiday accommodations. The comfortable bedding, ample kitchen, TV and internet, washing facilities, private entry off street and lots of special little touches that made us very glad we were not confined to a hotel room. This is the type of stay that doesn't leave you travel weary and longing for your own bed or a decent shower.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in San Francisco as we had excellent accommodation and we really fell in love with the city. We fully intend to return and at that point hope the Nelson's are still running their beautiful little cottage.
P.S. On the morning we left we farewelled our hosts Daryl and Mark on the steps of their home out front. The driver came to collect us for the airport and as we drove away he asked had we been staying with family or friends, and we nearly felt that we could say yes! -

Our stay at this lovely cottage was made even more special and homely by the small touches, such as flowers, food and drink, and we even had bath toys, and plates for our baby which was so thoughtful. The cottage is in a great area, close to great boutiques stores and so many restaurants. Great if you don't want to cook. Thank you for making our time in San Francisco so memorable.

This property was the first stop in our three week tour of California and was by far the most comfortable and luxurious place we stayed. From the moment you step through the door the comforts of home are all there for you, and we found the location perfect - blissfully quiet but only a few minutes walk to the restaurants bars and transport of Union Street. A special thanks to our charming hosts, they provided all the little touches that make for a delightful stay - food in the fridge, fruit on the table, lovely toiletries. Also, Daryl was kind enough bring scones she had baked and to post back some clothes our son left behind. We highly recommend this property.

Lovely garden cottage and marvelous hospitality. We had two adults and one teenage traveling to San Francisco for a week long vacation. The cottage is in such a lovely safe neighborhood. Our hosts provided great information for the area. We enjoyed walking the shops and restaurants along Union and Chestnut, and even developed a couple favorites in a short time. We love to explore cities without using a personal car. The cottage is in a great location. Short walks to the buses for primary east-west and north-south routes and tons of great public transportation options through SF. At the end of busy days adventuring around the city, the cottage was an amazing retreat... better than home. We feel so fortunate to have stumbled across this place on tripadvisor.com. A huge thank you to Daryl for such gracious hospitality.

This is a great alternative to a hotel for those who would like to stay in a "home away from home". It has everything you need for a small family/group. Daryl is a very friendly and welcoming hostess: flowers and a bowl of fruit on arrival! Quiet location. Those who would like to be in the middle of action might find the cottage a little too far away from the tourist sites such as Fishermen's Wharf or Union Square; however, there are public transportation options nearby. Highly recommended.

Left on 01/17/2010 for a stay in January 2010
We spent NYE at this lovely cottage in Pacific Heights with our 2 small children. Everything was perfect! The cottage is beautifully decorated and constructed. The linens were sumptuous, the appliances were top of the line, the view of tropical plants in neighboring yards (so unexpected in the middle of the city) was just gorgeous. The cottage is in a very private space behind beautiful gingerbread Victorians with its own deck and magical garden. Despite being about 2 blocks from busy Union Street, it was totally silent in the cottage. Our kids (toddler and infant) were perfectly set up in the guest room and the house was really fitting for a small family. In fact, Daryl very thoughtfully provided us with children's books, videos, and a portable crib. Our 4 year-old is still telling everyone about how much she loved our adventure at the cottage. Daryl's hospitality was above and beyond and we will surely return to the cottage for a retreat from our "real life" in the future. Highly Recommend!!!
