Description from the manager
Our Parkside unit is a single family residence set two blocks from San Francisco's beautiful Golden Gate Park. Parkside is in a great location to take advantage of the De Young Museum, the Academy of Science, the Arboretum and numerous other activities in the park. Parkside is also close to Ocean Beach and the Cliff House. While located in a quiet neighborhood there are many options for dining, shopping and public transport.
Parkside has a bungalow style with updated features. After you climb one set of stairs you will find a living room that spans the width of the home. There is a television, stereo and a...Read more

OhioGreat location near Golden Gate Park
Left on 05/15/2013 for a stay in April 2013
This bungalow is conveniently located just 1 1-2 blocks from the Golden gate park. Plenty of things to walk to, or easy to jump on a bus. The house had promised a backyard with outdoor table, but instead there is an overgrown mess and no outdoor seating. As this was a key need for us with 3 kids, we were pretty disappointed. Having said that, the house was pretty good- newer well stocked kitchen, laundry in the garage, plenty of linens etc. Everything seems a little dated (decor, dishes, furniture, linens.) If you are driven crazy by jockeying for parking, this may not be for you. The tiny garage does not accommodate medium or family size vehicles. Don't expect neighbors to welcome you, bu do expect a great walkable neighborhood experience!

East Coast Mama
Menlo Park, CaThis house was perfect for us
Left on 01/18/2012 for a stay in November 2011
Parkside was perfect for our stay in San Francisco last Nov. We needed a place to have a big old fashioned family dinner. Since Mom lives on the East Coast but kids and the rest of the extended family live on the West Coast, we needed a place of our own that would accommodate all of us so that mom could cook her old time meal and we could all gather around and enjoy each other. It worked perfectly. Then we had great access to the Park and the beach, the Palace museum, restaurants and easy access over the Golden Gate. Plus, parking was a lot easier than in many sections of SF. And we had a garage!!
We felt comfortable visiting and laughing knowing that we were not disturbing anyone in this free standing home. We had all the kitchen space and tools that we needed to pull of a complete dinner.
Thanks Casa Buena Vista, you made it happen for us!! -

Left on 11/04/2011 for a stay in September 2011
This place was fun inside and super comfy, it was easy to take a chill day and just stay inside. The surrounding area was full of little restaurants, great to explore, close to a lot of tourist spots, easy to navigate and right by the bus stop. Loved it.

Escondido, CAGreat SF house for 4+ right by Golden Gate Park
Left on 10/27/2011 for a stay in September 2011
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this house. It was plenty big for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Great location right next to Golden Gate Park. Garage was a tight squeeze, but very nice to have. Full kitchen, comfortable bedrooms. Lots of great restaurants in the area...especially Dim Sum (yum). Cheaper than booking 2 or 3 rooms at a hotel too.

Sarasota, Floridagood basic place to enjoy Golden Gate Park
Left on 09/23/2011 for a stay in July 2011
We are a retired couple who spent 2 1/2 months living in Parkside (summer 2011).
First the good points. There was plenty of space for just the 2 of us. The location (Do not miss the Golden Gate Park Dahlia Garden!!) is convenient to almost everything in San Francisco by either public transportation or car. The Outer Richmond neighborhood is generally quiet and residential but has commercial strips (Clement & Geary) with great restaurants & food shopping in easy walking distance. There is a one car garage and washer dryer on the entry level. The wi-fi worked well except for one day w/ Comcast problems. The upstairs living quarters are spacious. The kitchen has all basic equipment. There is a land line for local and inbound calls.
Now the negatives. The house is run down. There is a large garden, which could be lovely, but it has been sadly neglected and is overgrown with weeds. The garage is full of clutter. It is long but extrememly narrow. Getting our Prius in and out was a challenge, especially when people parked on either side of the narrow driveway. A full sized car or van would be quite difficult to manuver in and out of this garage. To do laundry you have to squeeze around the car to get to the washer/dryer. The master bedroom has a queen size bed which should work for 2 people, but one side is pushed against the window, so one person has to crawl in from the foot of the bed. Thus we used both bedrooms. The queen mattress is comfortable, but there is only 1 functional set of sheets. The 2nd sheet set has inadequate fitted pockets for a deep mattress and kept coming off the bed. The 2nd bedroom has a highriser bed. If opened, one person would have to crawl in. The highriser mattress is extrememly uncomfortable. I had to use a foam mattress topper to make sleeping in this bed bearable. The kitchen is equiped with almost all basics, but the dishes have a metallic trim and are not usable in the microwave.
I word of warning for those who do not know the San Francisco climate (I had lived there years ago, but had forgotten many specifics). In the summer the Richmond and Sunset districts are at least 5 degrees colder than the downtown area and are covered by fog most days. Remember Mark Twain's quote and bring long johns. It rarely got above 60 degrees in this part of town and sunshine was a novelty.
While it's great being close to GG Park, on the weekends the park is closed to cars and the street can get congested with people parking for GG Park. Also, when they had a 3 day music festival in the park we heard the music for 12 solid hours a day blocks away. The crowd leaving the festival late at night made a lot of noise on the street..
I think Parkside is a good well priced basic rental for a relatively short (less than 2 weeks) stay, but I would not recommend it for a longer stay. -

perfect location; very comfortable and well equiped. only comment is that it is difficult to pick up and return keys in another part of the city w/o a car and it would be very great if keys could just be left in the flat upon checkout.

Guelph, CanadaA perfect retreat for our family.
Left on 03/22/2011 for a stay in March 2011
A perfect retreat for our family. The pictures did not do this place justice, it's really bright and homey and it's a whole house with a yard, I don't think the ad reflected this well. It had everything we needed: garage, dishwasher, washer dryer, room for our family of 4 (+more if you need it), satelite tv, wifi and space enough to entertain our extended family when they visited. We had a long list of must-haves for our stay and Parkside met them all. We enjoyed how it was close to everything we were interested in and away from things we weren't. Awesome dim sum a short 2 blocks away: Ton Kiang. We bought City Passes and used them well, including the public transit, which is easy to access just around the corner. A short walk to Golden Gate Park and a short drive to everything else.

We stayed in a two bedroom house in the Richmond district. It was well-kept,comfortable, and had all the creature comforts. We needed a hair dryer , called and one was delivered. It was half a block from the bus,two blocks from Geary St. where all the shops, restaurants and another bus line were situated. It was close also to Golden Gate Park. The heat worked, although it took awhile to heat up the place. All in all, I would stay there again. It was safe, quiet and you could hear the fog horn. Very picturesque. Beds were comfortable, furnishings were very nice.

We usually spend our time in the bay area in hotels. This was a great relief, we could all relax and read books or watch movies in a real home atmosphere, not to mention eating in when we felt like it. At the last minute we had to bring the dog and that worked out great too. Beautiful place, great location near the park.

This is the first time we have rented an apartment when traveling. I would recommend this rather than staying in a hotel. The accommodations were spacious and the kitchen was wonderful. Although the rental states no pets I wonder if the owners or other renters had cats in the apartment. I have a serious allergy to cats and did have a reaction to something while in the apartment. Other than that we had a wonderful experience.

Hoover, Alabamateenage sons pronounce it "chill"
Left on 10/08/2010 for a stay in June 2010
Our family of four stayed here for 3 nights in June. The vibe of the house is very relaxed and homey--we had much more room than the pictures indicate. Don't expect fancy, but intriguing quirky touches and very comfortable furniture; afghans; ingeniously arranged and fully equipped kitchen; explanations on how to use/work things; a great sound system the kids used with their Ipods. We loved being in a safe, un-touristy neighborhood--yet very close to beaches, park, museums, grocery and restaurants-- and especially enjoyed the convenient public transportation to ride into the tourist areas then coming "home" in the evenings to truly unwind and relax. We were concerned our 16 and 20 y/o sons would be disappointed to be away from the tourist areas at night, but although we've traveled far and wide, they loved the house and quickly pronounced it "chill". Parking could be a problem. If we had had to park on the street, it would have been impossible because the neighbor's cars took up all the spaces. We were "upgraded" to an SUV, and I am sure only my determined husband could get that SUV in the garage. I would not recommend anything larger than a midsize car, but by folding in the mirrors on the SUV, all passengers except driver getting out first, and the other three of us closely watching and directing, my husband was able to get the SUV in the garage and out as needed. Bathroom was small but adequate. Washer/dryer and recycling a plus. Our only disappointment is that one of our sons inadvertently left almost all his favorite shirts there and in spite of lots of calls and emails and pleading, we never got them back.

The OCA Home away From Home
Left on 07/27/2010 for a stay in May 2010
I'm a frequent visitor to San Francisco for work, generally staying in and around Union Square and the Financial district. While I enjoy the... colorful citizens of the Tenderloin at night it's not exactly the most family-friendly location. With that in mind I sought out a house a more "homey" location for our family vacation. Parkside turned out to be the perfect spot.
The house was in a great location in the Richmond. We were close enough to most of the touristy attractions to take the bus, drive or walk depending upon our mood but far enough away that we felt much more like locals.
There are a number of great restaurants, coffee and desert shops within walking distance if you choose to eat out but we also found several great local markets to buy groceries and cook for ourselves in the well-appointed kitchen in the house. It was a great treat getting the whole family around the dinner table for once!
The rest of the house was just as nice as the kitchen. The furniture is not high-end but is nice. The only sticky spot was sharing one bathroom between a family of 5. We spent a lot of time outside, though, visiting Golden Gate Park just a few blocks away. -

Left on 07/08/2010 for a stay in April 2010
We enjoyed our week at Casa Buena Vista. The apartment was spacious in a quiet neighborhood convenient to buses and Golden Gate Park. One car garage for parking fit great for us (we had a compact car... would not recommend anything larger though). Place slept 5 of us (husband & wife, 2 kids, and grandmother) comfortably. Only negative was the place had kind of a musty smell to it.

Atlanta, GAWe loved this house
Left on 06/25/2010 for a stay in June 2010
We are a family of 4-with two kids 11 and 14 years old. One of our favorite things on our trip to San Francisco was staying in this house and walking to the park and to the restaurants in "our" neighborhood. The house is both charming and funky. Wood floors, a fireplace, updated kitchen. The beds, a queen bed in one room and two twins in another room, were comfortable. The house is full of light and the garden in back is pretty. There is a garage which fit our rental Camry fine (it is a small garage, which is typical in San Francisco) and was great since most hotels charge about $20 or more a night to park. The washer and dryer was another great perk. The neighborhood is safe and very close to buses to the wharf, Union Square, etc. It is two blocks from Golden Gate Park and we rode bikes, jogged and visited the Japanese Tea Gardens, Academy of Sciences, De Young art museum, and Botanical Gardens. The area has a lot of ethnic restaurants, particularly Chinese, Japanese, and Thai, as well as an excellent Moroccan place. A well known Dim Sum restaurant is around the corner. We stayed for 5 nights and paid about $150 a night, which was less than a hotel, especially considering parking costs. When you enter from the front door or garage, you are in a foyer and then go up some stairs to the rest of the house. Even though the area is quite and known to be safe, there is a locked gate in front of the front door.

Left on 02/22/2010 for a stay in December 2009
We enjoyed our stay in the house, which was comfortable, spacious, and nicely decorated. The neighborhood was quiet and safe. We especially liked the kitchen and dining room. Overall, it was an excellent value, and much better than staying in a hotel. We were not within walking distance to any of the popular SF tourist attractions, but that was not really an issue since we used our private vehicle, and all of the places we visited were a 10-15 minute drive. Golden Gate Park was within walking distance, but ironically, we did not visit the park. Our 4-door sedan fit in the garage, which was very convenient. However, a larger vehicle will not fit in the garage, and parking could be an issue in the neighborhood. The guests included myself, wife, two young kids, and a sister in law, and we were very comfortable. If you do not have to be within walking distance to major attractions, this is a great value. Be sure to get a San Francisco city map. Google or Yahoo Maps driving directions are not accurate.
