We really enjoyed our stay here. The rooms were tasteful and there was a sense of calm generosity...the kitchen was stocked with every imaginable gadget and the place was very clean. Our only issues were that it took 30 minutes to get to central San Francisco and there were some things that needed sprucing up such as the cabinet finishes in the kitchen and bath and the entryway. These minor issues however did not detract from our enjoyment of the calm and tranquil environment. The owner was friendly informative and non intrusive and turned us on to a great local market where we bought our first nights dinner. Beds and bedding were super comfortable and the place was tastefully decorated in a spa like decor.

Our family stayed in this fabulous rental for 4 nights when in San Francisco. I have only got around to writing this review as I am planning another us trip and have found the Trip advisor reviews very valuable.
We arrived after a long drive up highway one, it was dark when we arrived at the house. After some troubles accessing the key (my issue more than the property issue), we entered and were very impressed. The furnishings are lovely, beds very comfortable, kitchen is one of the best I have seen and the view - incredible!
Laura was lovely and was very helpful in advice about the city. She even bought a clothes rack to hang my washing on! My husband and I sipped wine and watched the sunset while the kids Skyped from the apple Mac in the bedroom. I would recommend this property to anyone visiting the city. -

Ocean Gem is a delightful retreat with amazingly comfy beds and excellent ameneties.We loved its close location to all the sights,however it was also tranquil and away from the hustle and bustle of Fisherman's Wharf.Laura was a delightful host and provided us with everything for a very lovely stay.The children also loved the large television and the comfy sofas!Thank you.

Our family of four (and our dog) recently took a mini-vacation to San Francisco and stayed in this property. We highly recommend it for anybody wanting a nice, clean, comfortable and spacious place to stay in the Bay area. It has a very nice kitchen and the view from the living area is magnificent. It's location is a quiet neighborhood with easy access to Bart or about a 20 to 25 minute drive to the wharf area if traveling by car. The property owner, Laura, was very gracious and helpful with directions and suggestions for restaurants and sites we should see, and even lent a hand with our Golden Retriever when we were late getting back to the apartment a couple of times. Thanks again, Laura! Our family had a great time. Hopefully, we'll be back to see you again soon.

Our recent stay at Ocean View Gem was beyond my expectations. The pictures do not reflect how lovely, clean and cozy this home is to stay. The nice touches of having nice dishes, towels, cozy sofa all made it wonderful. We had a car but it is really easy to get around. The ocean and Golden Gate Park is minutes away. The fact Laura is so helpful and friendly only made our stay more lovely. I would highly recommend Ocean View Gem as you cannot beat the easy laid back feel of staying here and in this neighbourhood. Laura has thought of everything to make your stay stress free.

I needed somewhere for the weekend of teh Nike Women's marathon, as a group of us were running and i had family in from england. we also had our dog who we wanted to bring with us! Laura was really helpful and flexible with our dates, as well as providing a lot of information upfront on how to find the apartment and what was in the area. The place was in a great spot, very close to golden gate park and the beach, with lovely ocean veiw from the front room. The apartment itself was very clena and comfortable, with everything you could possibly need for a weekends stay! We all had a great time at this place and would highly recommend it! Thanks again for all your help...especially allowing teh slightly late check out...the shower was very much appreciated and needed :-)

A very comfortable' home from home'. Everything supplied that was needed for our stay in San Francisco with a fully equipped kitchen, plenty of information on local attractions, and a computer to assist with any queries we still had. The apartment was kept clean and the location was convenient for transport into the more central areas of the city. The host was extremely helpful both during the booking process and as part of our stay. Laura was willing to do far more than expected to help our holiday ran smoothly and to make our stay memorable.

This San Francisco rental certainly lives up to its name! We just spent one glorious weeks at this lovely property and enjoyed every minute there. The rental is beautifully decorated with top notch furnishings and appliances. I am very concerned about providing my family with a safe atmosphere when vacationing and this property was perfect. All of the neighbors were very inviting. We were in close proximity to everything San Francisco has to offer with respect to Food, Sites and Entertainment. This was a wonderful trip and I will surely keep this property bookmarked for my future visits.

This appartment is like home away from home.
We were 2 couples that stayed there 4 nights in early September and did not regret our choice. It is much better than a hotel room. There is a lot of space, a full kitchen that we used specifically for our breakfests, washer and dryer available, ... The free Wifi is also usefull to plan our visits. The free parking place was also appreciated for our rented vehicle.
The location is also great : near the ocean and the Golden gate park, public transportation nearby (10 min walk), quiet neiborhood at night after a long day visiting, ...
You will also appreciate the web site visitor's access that provides all sort of information but you will also find full documentation in the appartment.
And I could not leave out the kindness of our host Laura who is always focussing on our needs. She was always available to answer all of our questions and provided us with nice tips to make our stay unforgettable.
We will have nice memories of our SF stay ... thanks Laura.

We wanted to stay somewhere homely and restful at the end of a 2 week holiday in the USa and chose this apartment because of the great views and attractive looking accommodation. It really was one of the best rentals we have ever stayed in. Laura has provided everything that could be needed and the open sitting/dining/kitchen area is spacious and light. The bedrooms were also very comfortable and stylish. Having access to the internet was a real plus and we really felt at home here. Laura herself was very helpful and attentive and gave us excellent advice about activities that would suit our 3 teenage sons.
It was so relaxing staying here that we were able to make the most of our stay in San Francisco and had great time.

I found this wonderful property by browsing the web for holiday rentals in SF and we were not disappointed. Owner Laura is a wonderful welcoming lady and has tons of info on the neighbourhood and the city. From the moment we had arrived we felt at home, both by her great reception and the wonderful accommodation. We particularly enjoyed the fully equipped gourmet kitchen, which we used 200 % and the tastefully decorated and spacious living room. We were looking for a quiet, comfortable and reasonably priced place to stay and this place fulfilled all our requirements. Why pay high rates in a noisy city centre hotel and sleep badly when you can stay at a terrific place like this in a quiet area ? For our next stay in SF we will come back to Laura's place !

Laura's home was incredibly comfortable and beautifully furnished. We arrived late at night and she was there to welcome us and to get us settled. First thing the following morning, she stopped by to make sure we had everything we needed and to give us tips on local restaurants, how to use the public transportation and ideas for things to do. Laura also encouraged us to call or text at any time if we had questions about the house or city - it was like having a personal concierge!
With our 3 daughters (ages 9-14), we could not have stayed at a hotel for the price of this rental and to have the space we did. Since we were on a long trip, it was also great to have a place to do a few loads of laundry.
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to San Francisco and a large part of our great experience was the wonderful accomodations we had during our visit.Response from Laura van Hoff - 10/25/2011

The appartment is spacious and illuminated, nicely furnitured, big fully equipped kitchen, flat large cable/sattelite TV screen. balcony facing the ocean, spacious two bedrooms, large bathroom, parking, free WiFi and in room owner's apple computer.
Neighborhood is very quiet, shops are near; we had a rented car and it was very easy to get anywhere in San Francisco.
The owners were marvellous, helpful and generous.

The property is located in a quiet and safety neighborhood, we arrived late all nights that we stayed there, without problems and it´s close to supermarket, restaurants and gas stations.
The apartment has a wonderful kitchen with all appliances and china that you need to prepare meals and have nice breakfasts and dinners and a confortable living room with a very nice view to the back yard (We saw raccoons on the big tree) and the sea. The bedrooms had good beds then you can sleep and rest very well.

We recently stayed with our three children aged 18, 16 and 11. We had a very relaxed stay and Laura is the perfect host, always willing to help and offer local knowledge and advice. The accommodation is very comfortable and well equipped plus ideally placed to make you feel like you are away from the tourist hustle and bustle, but close enough to get anywhere quickly. Before we arrived Laura recommended the City Pass tickets and we purchased them on-line. They are a must for anyone who wants to get around the City and avoid the hastle of driving. The Muni buses and trams are excellent and just a 5 minute walk from the house. The pinball machine in the garage is great too!

My husband I visited San Francisco from our home in Oregon and had an amazing stay in this convenient, beautiful home. The owner has been extraordinaryly thorough in what she provides for the comfort of her guests, from amenities to information. A comptuer, printer, local phone, espresso maker, TV, Cable, IPod player, cd player.....and on and on are available for the use of the guests. She also provides information about local restuarants and activies. All San Francisco attractions are easily reached via the muni which connects directly to Bart. And the Ocean View, from many rooms of this sunny home is the icing and the perfect cake.

This property exceeded our expectations. One of the best vacation rentals you'll ever find! Not only was it equipped with all the modern high end appliances of what we needed, it even had a desk top computer we could use and a wireless internet that always works. In the spacious kitchen,it even had many kinds of flavored tea bags, cooking oil, lots of sesasonings, etc. The beds were really comfortable, too.
The location in the Sunset district was exactly what we needed. We always felt secure in entering and leaving the building.
I wish to use this vacation rental property when we come back to San Francisco again.

My family and I stayed at this property for a week at the end of February 2010. As well as the spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean from the livingroom, it is only a short journey down to Ocean Beach for a walk in the early morning, late evening or at any other time of the day!
The house is immaculately kept, comfortable and fully equipped, (ideal for those who like to cook!). It is located on a quiet street, yet there are plenty of shops, cafes, restaurants in easy distance.
We found the location ideal for seeting the sights of San Francisco and the Bay Area. Proximity to 19th Ave made it very easy to travel north over the Golden Gate Bridge or south.
We will definitely stay at this property again! -

We stayed at Laura's place over a weekend while we were up in SF for a concert at Golden Gate Park (Outside Lands)... the home is absolutely perfect for two couples to stay, with amazing views, a cozy living room, and great kitchen to cook up some good meals! We all loved the house and would definitely stay again next time we are in town. Laura was very hospitable and we felt welcome and comfortable, like staying at a close family friend's place. This was our first time using VRBO and we had a great first experience!
