This flat is set in a fabulous, very central location. First of all, it is not in Downtown (which could be dicey) and not too deep in the residential parts of town that are too sleepy. Staying in this neighborhood gives visitors a unique feel for how locals live in San Francisco. Only one block away is Alamo Square with its world famous views of the Painted Ladies and San Francisco downtown. This park also has a recently renovated playground for children. The Fillmore, a reputed venue for incredible live band performances is within walking distance. Within strolling distance are Haight Ashbury, which was the epicenter of the hippie culture and retains a certain charisma to this day, Japantown with its delicious restaurants, Castro district with its uniqueness, and Golden Gate Park with famous museums and greenery. Highly regarded restaurants, such as Nopa, are a stone's throw away. There are also many great coffee shops and nightlife.

We do have parking available at an additional fee. The parking is located one block away from the home in a reserved lot. However, a car is not necessary. There are 4 main bus lines that take you anywhere in the city (from downtown to the ocean) located within 2 blocks of the home. Also, a cab ride to almost anywhere in the city usually costs less then $12.

We checked in to the rental exactly at 3pm and the cleaning service was not even close to finished. She had dirty sheets, old food and piles of dirt everywhere as she hastily finished 'cleaning' in 20 minutes. We then had to re-clean and re-wash everything as it looked and smelled filthy. We continued to find dirt and left items from renters before us. At night we were awoken to rats climbing through the walls.
It was a great location, but for the price and cleanliness, a hotel would have been better.

The house was large enough to have extra room for everyone. Also in a great location, the park is nearby!

With 7 adults and 2 children we had plenty of room in this apartment. The bedrooms and bathrooms with quite spacious.
The kitchen facilities were spacious and modern.
The garden area was a let down as it was obviously not cared for and the BBQ was filthy and we did not use. I think the location is the best thing about this apartment it was easy to get to all the major SF sights and the bus service is great. The restaurant downstairs was fabulous and convenient. For a large group its a great option and very reasonably priced.
Stephen Baldwin is not alec Baldwin

The pictures are not indicative of the condition, wear and tear, and cleanliness of the apartment. The picture promises alec Baldwin from the early 90s but in reality, it was more like his less desirable brother Stephen of this year.
As for the amenities, there are enough toiletries in the apartment to operate a car wash. The bed linens were also abundant. It was hard to decide. I took a methodical approach by answering the following series of questions:
1. Was it yellow to begin with or was it natural aging?
2. Was it brown to begin with or did it start as yellow?
3. Does it smell clean, musty, or like the last guest?
If yellow and does not smell like last guest...it's good enough for me!
Lastly, since the policy had me readying up for the next guest, I thought it would be courteous to leave behind my can of Fabreeze. In the event they, like me, didn't grow up on a horse farm and were not accustomed to the muted but persistent odor of horse dung hanging around every corner of the apartment. Of course if you prefer a fresh breeze over Fabreeze, you can open the windows so the garbage perfume from the seafood restaurant next door can dilute the scent of the hanging horse dung. The garbage alley makes for a great view too, straight out from the kitchen!
My take away from this experience:
1. Stephen Baldwin with the right lighting can look like alec Baldwin
2. A picture is worth a thousand words but too bad you can't smell it
Great place and only one issue

The house was great: location so close to alamo Square, and the bus system; the house was well equipped with kitchen items and the space was great. Boutikia was friendly and able to answer our questions, etc. My only concern is that there were several mice on the property: there was one in a trap right next to the dishwasher and several of our family saw/could hear them scampering around in the evening.
A great stay

We were a family group of nine adults, one four year old and two babies. We enjoyed our stay in this very nice flat. There were plenty of areas for conversations and the bedrooms were all good size. It was well equipped with everything we needed, towels, linens, dishes etc. it was really handy to have a place to do our laundry also. That way we didn't have to fly home with suitcases full of dirty laundry. We voted the accommodations to be a ten. The flat was close to restuarants and shopping. We would suggest a laundry basket, dishcloths and to fix the broken tile by the fireplace. So I guess if those are the only things we thought would help you know we had a great time!

The property had everything we needed plus more. Beds were very comfortable, 3 bathrooms gave us all privacy and the laundry & kitchen were a bonus. We were within walking distance to the painted ladies and the hop on hop off bus stop. Excellent restaurant next door, we ate there twice. We drove to the property and the instructions were very clear and easy to find. Lovely area. Great value for money, about 25 steps to the property but we expect this in San Francisco. Easy to book over the internet, all mail answered promptly.
Perfect Place in the center of San Francisco

Vara Lower is a perfect place for bigger groups. It's central location makes getting anywhere in the city close and affordable. The kitchen is great and 3 full bathrooms is a huge plus. Alamo Square park is right around the corner and you are walking distance to the Lower Haight and Hayes Valley. Laundry in the basement is a nice as well.
Great place and great host!

This place was great. Located on a nice and quiet street just a few blocks from the subway. But the best thing about this place was the host, Erdene. She took good care of us and gave us many useful tips of what we could do in Harlem.

I was worried this place would not live up to my expectations, but it was more than I could have asked for! I planned a week long trip to SF and wanted a local native experience so I chose to rent an apartment rather than book a hotel. The place is just a block from the Painted Ladies & Alamo Square park and so close to my favorite neighborhood, Hayes Valley. The place was so spacious and beautifully decorated. The master bedroom & suite were absolutely gorgeous! I can not rave about this place enough. I'm crazy about researching every detail of my trips so I looked at so many other rentals on Trip advisor, but this one stood out way above the rest. Do the research yourself and you'll see what I mean. Maybe others places are larger, have a parking garage or whatever, but you won't find another quite like this gem with it's beauty, location & price. It's not the cheapest, but I saw other more expensive rentals with 10x less style & grace.
The rooms are beautiful, the kitchen is luxurious with modern appliances, the living room is cozy with a large tv, the dining room is so refined (I wish I would have used it!), the hardwood floors are lovely and the overall decor is a mix of modern elegance with classic, historic SF style. The master bath has marble floors with a claw foot bath tub that I definitely used. There's a gate on the sidewalk to get in which you share with the upstairs neighbors. No trouble with the neighbors either. The only complaint we did have was the scent of the apartment. The house is very clean so we assumed maybe the scent was coming from the upstairs neighbors. It's just your typical "apartment building" smell.
I recommend adding parking to your bill. It's about a couple blocks away from the apartment, but we just left our car parked there the whole time and took taxis & public transit. Parking in SF is a pain so I don't recommend using your own car for city traveling.
Stay here. You'll absolutely fall in love with the place.

We very much enjoyed our stay. The apartment is spacious, 6 of us had plenty of room to eat, sleep and watch the occasional TV program. The kitchen and bathrooms have been wonderfully renovated and many of the windows have been replaced by soundproofed ones especially on the street side. There are great restaurants in the area, one of which is right next door, which was very convenient when we arrived late. The nicest thing was that the management company let us leave our luggage by the front door the day of our departure so we could enjoy our last day until our late afternoon flights.
Love to travel

This was a great location! One block away from the Painted Ladies and very convenient. The hop on hop off and bus stop was at our front door. We had three couples with plenty of room. There was a little French restaurant next door that is reasonable. I would definitely stay here again.
It's not a house.

I was expecting a house when I arrived only to find that the rental, though nice, was an apartment and not a house and should be advertised as such. The apartment was a nice size and comfortably furnished. The location was very convenient to all of the city and parking, which seems to be at a premium everywhere, was very convenient. I do feel that at $450.00 per day it's very wrong to ask your tenants to empty the trash and take the dirty linens to the laundry room. This should be treated like any good hotel. For all new tenants, the restaurant next door is excellent and might just have the best prices in town!! Read more
We advertise it as a condo, but I will look for and correct any misprint. Our check-out policies are among the most lenient for a vacation home. The cleaning crew sometimes has less than 4 hours to prepare the place for the next guest. Small things like putting trash in the bins and dirty linens next to the laundry are all we ask and goes a long way to letting the next guest check in on time.

We spent 5 days in SFO and this unit really gave us a good rest during the stay. Facilities are complete and functioned very well. Boutikia management is very responsive and answered every call and accommodated very single request we had.
