Tucson, AZGood location, authentic SF experience
Left on 08/12/2010 for a stay in July 2010
This location was substituted for another location that we had reserved but wasn't available. Once we made sure we got the new location at the old price, it was a great value. It was near what we wanted to do, and allowed us to walk to just about everything. A couple of downsides regarding check-in were that it wasn't clear which door was ours (we had to keep trying until the key worked), and there was no close place to park to unload our bags. We ended up leaving the car in the Japantown lot a couple blocks away after unloading.
The unit itself was very functional, with a full kitchen & wifi.
All in all, it was a much more authentic and functional experience than a hotel. -

edwards, coloradoGreat idea but not worth the trouble...

The Pierce Place lower unit is actually a very charming residence but not a great place to rent for a weekend stay. I loved that it had a true San Francisco feel and the kitchen was great but... It is a bit of a hassle to have to pick up the keys at another location - I guess that if you are staying for a long period of time, it would be worth it but for a couple of days, it just took up a lot of the time we had. As for the place itself... The bathroom was really small and didn't offer much privacy - the door didn't really close - and the window didn't really open - and the shower was really small with no water pressure and it leaked out the side. We rented the place for four of us because it offered a fold out couch but when we got there the couch was not only not made up but the sheets were locked in a closet. Once we got someone there to open the closet for us, there were only top sheets and they were both stained and smelled moldy and there was only one towel for the four of us. All in all, we could have stayed at a hotel for the same price but with a lot more convenience. The house itself has wonderful potential as a rental unit - it is in a great location - the details just need some ironing out - it would be nice if the mirror was hung on the wall instead of sitting against it, there were clean bedding and towels, the place was aired out, a trash can in the bathroom etc... As it is now though, I would not recommend it.

Huntington Station, NY"Golden" Stay at Pierce Place
Left on 05/20/2009 for a stay in August 2008
Our stay at Pierce Place was wonderful. We are a family of 4, 2 of whom are teenagers. The location was central to all of San Francisco and the BART bus system was great. The apartment was neat but we couldn't figure out how to work the TV. The bathroom shower needed getting used to but it was all good. It's hard to stay in a hotel/motel after out San Francisco experience.
