Appartamento Il Riccio A is a romantic and welcoming two-story apartment surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. It sleeps four people. From Appartamento Il Riccio A you will enjoy an enchanting view of the Tuscan countryside and of the towers of San Gimignano . Appartamento Il Riccio A is 110 square meters (1200 square feet). It features a shared swimming pool, a private garden, winter heating and WI-FI Internet access.
You will be roughly 7 km (4.3 miles) from San Gimignano, where you will find restaurants and the shops. You will find the closest restaurant at 6 km (roughly 3.7 miles) and a grocery store at 1.5 km (roughly 1 mile).... You will reach Appartamento Il Riccio A from the parking area along a 50-meters (165-feet) private walkway that cuts through the garden.
To stay at Appartamento Il Riccio A you will need a car. You will be able to park it on the premises, in a reserved parking space.
Appartamento Il Riccio A is located on the side of the building that looks towards the towers of San Gimignano. As a guest of the apartment you will have the exclusive use of the area of the garden that is in front of the apartment, which is fenced by an hedge and a small gate, so that quiet and privacy are assured.
The living room has high ceilings, and is divided into two by a brickwork round arch, characteristic of ancient Tuscan houses. On one side of the arch there is a welcoming sofa with armchairs, placed around a nice fireplace of an ancient shape. On the other side of the there is the long dining table and a beautiful and comfortable brickwork kitchen.
The entire living area gets light from large windows which overlook the green of the garden, and which are close by the original ancient medieval iron gratings.
The decoration, rich in ancient items peculiar of the local country life, and of lace and white linen, gives a touch of charm to the environment, and of freshness and cheerfulness as well.
An authentic ancient stairway made of stone of Firenzuola will take you upstairs. Here a small corridor separates the bedrooms, which are located one to the left and one to the right of the corridor. The door of the bathroom, large and comfortable, opens in the corridor.
The furnishing is welcoming and pleasant, white and blue, rich in charm and reveals the fantasy of the kind owner, and her care in welcoming her guests.
The Il Riccio apartments are part of a farmhouse located on the gentle hillside, at a height of 200 meters (650 feet).
The farmhouse is surrounded by 4 hectares (10 acres) of vineyards, olive groves and woods, and it is located in a panoramic position on the slopes of a hill, just a few kilometers from the medieval burg of San Gimignano.
Once you are past the entrance gate, you will see a green lawn decorated with terracotta jars and pots full of flowers, and marked by a few pathways flanked by rose bushes. At the end of the lawn you will find the beautiful and large ancient building, made of stone and terracotta.
In ancient times the building use to be a fortified monastery, located on the road that pilgrims going to Rome had to follow. This is quite evident if you look at the remains of an ancient tower, nowadays incorporated in the building.
The large house has been skillfully renovated and divide into four apartments, all of them with an independent entrance and reserved external areas. Three of these apartments are being rented out, while the owners of the estate reside in the fourth one.
On the side of the garden, at a slightly lower level, you will find the swimming pool, hidden from the view by a hedge. It is almost circular, placed on the side of the hill and surrounded by an amphitheatre of green lawns.
You will find this location particularly suggestive, because when you are by the pool you will be able to see only the blue of the water and the green of lawns, trees and vineyard, and you will be able to relax and enjoy the sun all day long. By night you will be able to swim in the illuminated pool, and the place acquires even more charm.
At the farmhouse you will be able to taste the produce of the estate: Chianti wine of the Sienese hills and extra virgin olive oil.
You will also be able to use a pizza oven and a portable barbecue.
The swimming pool has a sinuous shape and is deep from 10 centimeters (4 inches) to 1.4 meters (4.6 feet). The swimming pool area is equipped with sun umbrellas, sun loungers, an hammock and an external shower. From the swimming pool you will enjoy an enchanting view of the surrounding countryside. You will share the pool with the other guests staying at the complex. It is open from mid-May until the end of September.
The garden is 2000 square meters (21500 square feet) large. It is partly shaded by ancient olive trees. In the garden you will find a brickwork barbecue and a wood-fired pizza oven. From the garden you will enjoy an enchanting view of the Tuscan countryside. You will share the garden with the other guests staying at the complex.
The garden is 40 square meters (430 square feet) large. It is partly shaded by trees. It is equipped with a table and chairs. From the garden you will enjoy a view of the surrounding countryside.
The living room is paved with Tuscan terracotta tiles. The furnishings are warm and welcoming, and include some antique pieces. The furnishings include a sofa and two armchairs. There is a nice fireplace made of bricks. In the living room you will also find a cooking area. The kitchenette is well equipped, with a four-burner gas cooker, a gas oven, a refrigerator with freezer, a dishwasher, a microwave oven, an Italian-style coffee-maker, an American-style coffee-maker (bring your filters!), a toaster and other small appliances. There is also a washing machine, an iron and an ironing board. The dining table can accommodate six guests. In this room you will find a satellite television. From the living room you will be able to enter the garden with a view of the hills through a French door.
The half-bath is equipped with a washbasin and a toilet. You will be able to enter it from the corridor.
You will be able to enter the first bedroom from the corridor along a stairway. The furnishings are simple and comfortable. The room has a matrimonial bed (160 cm/62 inches, wider than a queen-size bed). The room has a window with a view of the garden and of the hills.
You will be able to enter the second bedroom from the corridor. The furnishings are simple and comfortable. It has two twin beds (80 cm/32 inches). The room has a window with a view of the vegetation and of the towers of San Gimignano.
The bathroom is spacious and equipped with a washbasin, a toilet, a shower and a bathtub with fixed shower head. The bathroom has a window with a view of the garden and of the swimming pool. You will be able to enter the bathroom from the corridor.

This apartment is extremely well located set in the middle of a working vineyard, a few minutes from San Gimignano, an hour or so Siena, Florance, Lucca and Pisa with large chain grocery shopping only a few km. away.
The appartment was very spacious, well appointed, clean and contained all the usual amenities that we required for a most enjoyable stay. The pool and area was clean and lovely quite spot to relax.
Our hosts not only only met us on arrival and provided a walk through of the appartment and facilities but were also most helpful over the phone to help with directions as we found ourselves lost. The stafff at Summer in Italy we most professional, helpful and friendly throughout the transaction for this property and another in the south.
Highlights were the location and the Riccio grounds, spaciousness and cleanliness of the apartment. The only downside was the directions to the property were not as clear as they might have been as it is off the beaten track and it took us quite some time to finally find the property with many thanks to Mr Alex.
We went to Italy for 3 weeks in July of 2006. We made our way from Rome to Tuscany and then down to the Amalfi coast. During our visit we stayed in two of the villa's offered through summerinitaly.com. One was appartamento II riccio in Tuscany and the other was casa stella in Positano. Both villa's were perfect for us. They were very clean and in fantastic locations. The owners in both locations were generous and kind and extremely helpful. During my selection process Luca answered my phone calls each time I needed help. I would highly recommend using summerinitaly for any vaction to Italy.
