Description from the manager

Two Bedroom Detached House San Gimignano

Il Vecchio Fienile is a beautiful detached house with private swimming pool, surrounded by its own well kept garden with wonderful views over vineyards and cypress groves towards medieval San Gimignano visible in the distance. Immersed in the countryside yet only 2 km from San Gimignano, it provides very high standard secluded accommodation in a much sought after area of Tuscany.

Built on a slope, the accommodation is on three floors, all connected by internal staircases, but each floor actually opens on to an area of the garden. Originally a hayloft, the house has been carefully restored b...Read more

      attractive villa and attentive landlord

Left on 11/01/2012 for a stay in September 2012

We stayed in this villa for 2 weeks in September 2012. It is in a perfect location just 1.5 miles out of San Gimignano which, after 2 weeks of exploring this extraordinarily beautiful countryside and seeing all kinds of amazing hill towns and castles, is the most magical hill town of all.
The house is spacious, well equipped, attractively designed. The pool was cleaned for us every morning. We swam every day. The pool is not heated but the temps were in the 80's. Gorgeous.

The house faces East and we enjoyed wonderful sunrises over the distant hills. Great views. We watched them harvesting grapes in the vineyard below the house.

There were only two complaints about the house: there was a persistent septic system odor in the outdoor seating area and the house has many stone steps connecting the 3 floors but no handrails. This is not a house for people with mobility issues.

We did not complain about the septic system odor. I think they would have taken care of that for us had we done so. We did let them know about a shower that was not draining properly and they took care of that immediately. Very friendly owner and pool lady!
Wonderful vacation. We would go back.

      A little slice of heaven!

My husband and I have stayed at Il Vecchio Fienile with another couple on three different occasions. We have always been delighted with the villa, the beautiful countryside, and the fabulous pool. The villa and grounds are beautifully maintained, great shops and restaurants are nearby in San Gimignano, and the local wines are superb. This has to be the closest thing to heaven on earth!

The location was perfect for us. Very centrally located in the Tuscany area. San Gimignano is a wonderful city to be next to. Would have liked air conditioning in the bedrooms. Loved the pool.

Very nice place but could be better...

Left on 09/22/2011 for a stay in August 2011

Nice place but we were a bit disappointed by some details. The gravel area located just outside the living room is the place where you spend most of your time at night. A wooden deck or some klinkers would be a big plus. Outside ligthing could be better. The white plastic garden furniture (with not enough seats for everybody) is ugly and not confortable, bad smell from the sewer... Seats by the pool are old and not comfortable (I litterally fell through one. It hurt...). The house itself is not very convenient with children (lots of stairs) as you have to pass by the children's "room" to access the second floor where the parents rooms are located. The location near San Gimminiano is perfect and the pool area is nice. A better coffee machine should be nice as well...Small bathrooms and poor lghting in the rooms. With some slight improvement the place could be perfect.

Excellent property, but a couple of kilometers from San Gimino

Left on 08/09/2011 for a stay in June 2011

3 stories high, ;arger than it appears. Clean, comfortable. Only problem was it was a little too far to walk into town every night, so we had to take the car.
All told a very good holiday.

      best italian holiday ever

The only downsides were the weather, which is not under the control of the owners, and the fact that the satellite TV was tuned mainly to German channels.
