Two Bedroom First Floor Villa San Gimignano

Leo is a gorgeous apartment at Villa Il Podere. It is extremely spacious, very nicely furnished and has a large garden area and a balcony. A few steps away is a perfectly placed swimming pool and although immersed in beautiful countryside, incredibly San Gimignano is only 10 minutes walk away.

Il Podere is the perfect example of a Tuscan country villa, the original house dates back to 1600's and was said to be part of a large hunting estate. The house has recently been immaculately restored to its original splendour, and now forms two spacious apartments No 65 Leo and No 64 Magno Well k...ept gardens with lawns, mature trees and flowering plants surround the house, and there is a large swimming pool (12m x 6m) which overlooks the olive groves is an ideal spot for relaxing and enjoying a cooling dip. Guests are free to wander the estate where there are over 10 acres of private land, ideal for enjoyable walks in the country, amazingly medieval San Gimignano with its historic monuments, art galleries and wide selection of shops and restaurants is just waiting to be explored only 10 minutes walk away.

Leo effectively on the first floor of the house, is only a few steps from its garden as the house is built unusually on a slope. The apartment is very cosy and delightfully furnished with many antique pieces and family heirlooms. There is a comfortable living room with wood burning fireplace, and a large fully equipped kitchen, which has an unusual antique round marble topped table, invites you to prepare delicious meals. There are two characteristic bedrooms, one with double four poster bed, the other with two single beds which opens onto a small balcony and two lovely bathrooms, one with shower, the other with hydromassage bath.

The villa?s garden, furnished with table and chairs, sun umbrella, and terracotta pots brimming with flowers is a lovely location for an alfresco meal or just enjoying a chilled glass of 'Vernaccia di San Gimignano' whilst taking in the view and enjoying the essence of Tuscan countryside. A few steps away is the beautiful swimming pool, framed by a paved terrace and lawns, the pool has a beautiful view over the olive groves of the estate, creating the ideal surroundings for relaxing and enjoying a refreshing swim after a busy day?s sightseeing.

There is a communal laundry room, a barbecue for guests use and WiFi internet connection is also available at a small local charge. The owners, Vittorio and Marina, who live in Florence have a small detached cottage on the estate which they occasionally use. They are friendly and helpful whilst not intruding on your privacy. Parking is in the grounds below the house.

When you can tear yourself away from this idyllic country retreat, the medieval hilltop towns of Colle di Val d?Elsa ?City of Crystal? and Volterra famous for its alabaster are within half an hour's drive, whilst both Siena and Florence are easily accessible via the road, bus and rail links at Poggibonsi only 12km away. San Gimignano can be reached on foot or there is also a local shuttle bus to the town that runs every hour and stops 300m from the property.

  We have stayed in this villa four times over the past 8 years - it is the only villa that we have ever been back to! The villa is very comfortable, well equipped and always clean. The grounds are lovely, the pool is fantastic. The views from the villa, the pool and the grounds are classic Tuscany. The location is quiet (except for some distant traffic)and you think you are in the middle of the countryside, but within 10 minutes walking is the idyllic town of San Gimignano. The owners are lovely, very helpful if you need them, but very careful not to intrude on your privacy. We would never go anywhere else in Tuscany!
