La Cavallo is a delightful 2 story house right inside the little hilltown of San Giovanni d'Asso, not far from Siena. Situated near a medieval castle, this villa was originally a stables built in the 16th century. It has been totally renovated and offers very comfortable accommodations for up to 6 people in its 3 air conditioned bedrooms with 2 full bathrooms. We recently stayed here with two other couples. This is an excellent location as a home base while we toured the towns in the region. The town is very small and only has a couple of restaurants but there is a grocery store within walking distance. Anything we couldn't find, we were able to find in the larger nearby towns. There are a large number of towns within 30 kms with Siena about 50 kms so easy to visit one or two towns a day. The villa also offers private parking
It was very peaceful at the villa and we were fortunate to have great weather allowing us time to spend on the terrace - although a little cool to take advantage of the pool. Julian (the caretaker) did a great job looking after us.
We took advantage of the kitchen which allowed us to prepare some meals and the large dining table was great for our evening card games. Basic supplies were provided. There is a tv but didn't have any need to use it.
The bedrooms were quite comfortable and it was very quiet. Bathrooms were clean and there was lots of water pressure although it takes a while for the hot water in the showers.
We did take advantage of the restaurant in the castle a few times and were not disappointed. Food was really good and the service was tops. I think the server was more amused at our attempt to order in Italian!
Overall it was a great experience and we all really enjoyed ourselves.
