new jerseyTropical paradise in beautiful Mexico
Left on 12/10/2012 for a stay in November 2012
My girlfriend and I stayed here for seven days during Thanksgiving week. This roomy villa was beautifully appointed and the entire property made you feel like you were in a tropical paradise. The pictures didn’t do the grounds justice with various trees, cactus, birds, two fountains and all surrounded by privacy fencing (except for the golf course, but we were ok with that).
Customs was the fastest I’d ever gone thru, however the airport has an entire room devoted to landsharks (pushy time share locals) so once you have your bags, head immediately outside. We rented a car for the week (which I highly recommend) and the drive was a pleasant 15 minutes to the villa which Sheila met us when we arrived. The main villa has two bedrooms and 2 ½ bath, and the casita has one full bath and bedroom. The beds are comfortable and the cleaning people came twice during the week. The Mega is indeed about three blocks away but even better is a super Walmart about two miles down from the Mega. The prices were good and everywhere you went took both Pecos and us dollars.
San Jose Del Cabo is a quaint little town with a small town feel which includes secluded beaches (which I recommend over Cabo San Lucas) and restaurants ranging from small eateries to an applebee’s. We drove to Cabo San Lucas almost every day (about 25 minutes). We drove to Todos Santos for a day which is an hour north of CSL. I highly recommend this which included lunch at the famous Hotel California. We visited Sunset beach, along with Lovers/Divorce beach. The worst part of the trip was the beach vendors in CSL who hound you with everything from drugs to t-shirts to wind chimes. Lovers beach is beautiful and takes a 10 minute water taxi to get to. I went diving once; if you’re a diver then CSL is not what I would call a recommended dive location. The Pacific waters are rough so even snorkeling is difficult. We tried the Buccaneer Queen dinner/sunset cruise which was ok (more like a snack), and walked the marina in CSL which is where the high end shops are. We never had a bad meal the whole week; our favorite was a restaurant in the Capella Pedregal resort in CSL. This resort is fantastic and the restaurant is built into the side of a mountain right over the breaking ocean waves.
The villa has a back-up water supply system which we needed to utilize pretty much all week since the city water would go out at various times while we were there and when it was there the pressure was pretty low. Have Bruce explain this system operation to you, you’ll be glad he did. The pool is not heated so it was a bit chilly the week we were there, but the weather itself was perfect. There’s no cable so it’s only local tv, but there are DVD players. The upstairs air conditioner was broke (I noticed from a previous review that it had been broke so I suspect it has not been operational for a while), but there was really only one day that I would have liked it on.
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the villa to anyone who enjoys peace and comfort in a beautiful setting. -

The interior and exterior appointments of this property are very unusual and of high quality for a rental property. After spending 5 weeks and sharing the home & casita with family and friends, it is now an extension of our own home while we are in San Jose. We would strongly recommend Villa de La Torre for those who appreciate and care for the property as if it was their own.

ChicagoGood location, beautiful grounds!
Left on 06/13/2011 for a stay in May 2011
Overall, we had a great stay at the villa. The grounds are beautiful and private. The porch at the villa is amazing and was our favorite spot to hang out! You are very close the mega so it is easy to get groceries. We did not have a car which was fine, it was easy to walk to the store and the beach. However, the downtown San Jose del Cabo area is about 25 minutes walking (there is a bus but we did not take it) so it would be nice to have a car to get there and to drive around to the swimmable beaches (you cannot swim in the pacific near the villa), etc. There are good restaurants about 10-20 minutes away and we also cooked a good deal in the villa.
The maid came once during our four night/five day stay which was fine. We did find what looked like a cockroach in the bathroom, but that is the only one we found and we did have the bedroom patio doors open during the day. After we kept them closed during the day we did not have a problem.
The air conditioning in the upstairs area of the villa was not available when we were there, but the bedrooms did have air conditioning. It was not a big deal since we were gone, out by the pool, and on the porch during the day for the most part, but it was very hot in the upstairs area, so something to consider.
We took one trip to snorkel which was fun. We used a company that was near the public entrance to the beach, there is a guy named Ed who sets up tours and his company is called Cabo Best Deals (cabobestdeals.com). He was great and we really enjoyed the tour and snorkeling.
The owners were great and helped us out with anything we needed and offered rides to and from the airport. They are very close by and can be there very quickly if you need anything. I would definitely stay here again if I return to San Jose del Cabo. -

Our stay at the Villa de la Torre was outstanding. Every aspect of the villa was perfect for us - well furnished, close to the beach, grocery and to town. Bruce and Sheila were gracious and generous hosts insuring that our stay was perfect from the ride from the airport on. Every amenity necessary for a lovely stay was provided. The bedrooms were comfortable and the bath and shower beautiful. The grounds are interesting, filled with native plantings, fountains, a fire pit and a pool. The villa is unique from the 3rd story lookout to the trompe l'oeil cantina scene on the upper deck. We walked everywhere from the villa. Downtown San Jose is quaint and not too commercial. We found lots to see and do. The restaurants that we frequented were fabulous; our favorite was Mi Ensalata, just beyond the Cactus garden. We spent a couple days in the estero just down the street from the villa - beautiful walking and kayaking with many bird species. The beaches are gorgeous. We rented a car and traveled to Cabo San Lucas for a day - much more commercial, louder, and dirtier with more tourists, but the beaches are beautiful and a trip to Baja California Sur would not be complete without boating around the arch. We had a wonderful stay and hope to visit Villa de La Torre again soon.

I usually do not bother to write a review, but I was compelled to do so for this one. Our family of three stayed in the villa for a week in april. This is our 4th trip to Mexico and first time to Cabo. We loved everything about the Villa and the owners! The location is very convenient to the beach, Mega store, and to downtown with easy bus access. The villa is very well maintained with beautiful landscape. We appreciated warm hospitality and knowledge about local establishments by the owners.
Thanks Bruce and Sheila -- we will be back!

The main house was unavailable for our recent long weekend getaway, so we stayed in the new casita on the property. It couldn't have been better. Both the casita and property are beautiful. Hosts Bruce and Sheila's many years experience of providing warm hospitality is evident. We're already planning our next visit.

All I can say is staying in this Villa is a fabulous experience. It is clean, quiet and the surroundings are out of a text book. Quality of the Villa is superb, walking distance to San Jose which is a hidden jewel. The owner Bruce and his wife Sheila are very gracious and always checking in make sure you have what you need. I have been to the Villa 7 times and am planning my next trip as we speak.

If you are into 1st class luxury when vacationing, this is your place. We just returned from 2 weeks in"paradise" at Villa de La Torre. The expansive property is home to beautiful birds, flowering bushes, palm trees, bamboo trees, cactus gardens, flowing fountains and the mosaic tiled swimming pool, not to mention the beautifully decorated inside of this wonderful home. It's a leisurely 5 minute walk to the Mega store, for stocking the fridge(must get the huge fresh shrimp, and dont forget the fresh fruit for making your own smoothies.)A 5 minute walk also lands you at the Sea of Cortex for an early morning walk along the waters edge. For a romantic evening, throw the fresh shrimp on the barbeque, light the torches and relax by the firepit. The beautiful quaint town of San Jose del Cabo is a perfect spot for strolling down the cobblestone roads, checking out the art galleries, and getting great meals (must try Habaneros and Don Sanchez). The Gilmans are truly gracious hosts who thought of everything to make our stay truly spectacular (once again!)
After spending 2 amazing weeks in "heaven" are only negative was....we had to return to the real world!
