Additional Location Information
Our colonial capital city is over 500 years old; a walled city characterized by numerous public plazas and churches, architectural construction of the last 3 centuries, including the renowned Cathedral of San Juan and two fortresses. With its abundance of shops, historic places, museums, open air cafés, restaurants, clubs, gracious homes, tree-shaded plazas, and its old beauty and architectural marvels, OSJ is the main spot in Puerto Rico for international and local tourism. At our last SOFO Food Festival, over 45 restaurants in the city participated so the only question is "what should we try today?'! A free trolley serves the old city and the centuries-old Morro Fort complex is just a short ride away. Location, Location: Steps to markets, pharmacies, taxis, restaurants, museums, historic sites, casino, hotels, cruise ships, nightlife, pubs, discos, live theaters, video club, ice cream parlors, jogging trails, etc. The historic Hotel El Convento and the Antiguo Casino, as well as both forts- El Morro and San Cristobal, are just a stroll away. Free trolley services around the city; bus terminal, and several public garages just around the block. However, please note that Old San Juan is best enjoyed by foot, no car is needed to live within the comfort of this historic small city. Our apt. is 2 blocks from the bay and the most beautiful Coast Guard building, with live music most nights, and a wonderful walking plaza. Beach access is 5 minutes away too..! by trolley and a short walk, bus or taxi. Everything you need is at your doorstep...

Halifax, CanadaCharming apartment, Old San Juan
Left on 04/19/2013 for a stay in April 2013
My husband and I rented this two bedroom apartment in the heart of Old San Juan prior to our cruise. The owner, Wanda, has been so available and informative that she feels like an old friend. At her suggestion, the taxi driver phoned her for directions to the apartment from the airport, saving us potential time and money. The charming narrow, one way streets are great for walking, not running up a taxi meter. (It was a $20 plus bag charge from the airport.) The building is old and fascinating. The street door is locked and up a wide, curved staircase you access the apartment door. Walking into the living room, the full kitchen is to the right with shutters that open onto an interior patio with pass-through where you can eat. A steep, rustic staircase accesses the second floor and two bedrooms with aC, bathroom with large shower and massive rooftop patio. The patio has a clothesline which came in handy (a washer and dryer are available on the main level outside the apartment door) even just for hand washing. The patio is not fancy but rambles over a huge space. Lots of plants, lounges, tables and chairs make it very inviting as a place for drinks or a meal in the breeze. By leaning over slightly we could view the colourful, historic houses on the street. Many restaurants are nearby; a CVS pharmacy is a couple of blocks away for immediate food necessities. A SuperMax grocery store is a little further but easily in walking distance. Wanda, living next door, will tell you all this and more and is a great source of information. We rented the apartment for three nights, the third night sharing with our daughter, her husband and two pre-teen children. The second bedroom has a double bed below/ twin bed above bunk arrangement which they used. The second child slept on a comfy lounge chair which we brought inside from the patio. More than enough bed linens and towels for all. When it was time to go to the ship for our cruise, we all pulled our luggage the four blocks and boarded the ship!
The Stairs: The building is old, the stair risers are higher than we all are used to so it is a slight workout to go up and down. When our family arrived, I gave a little talk about stair safety. There is a railing, you just have to always use it. This apartment would not work for anyone with a mobility issue and would be a bit dangerous with active little ones, otherwise it is fun and perfect. We loved the location and the look and feel of the place. We walked all over the old city during the day and night and felt quite safe. -

Boston, MassachusettsOne of the best apartments (out of many) that we have rented.
Left on 03/02/2013 for a stay in February 2013
This apartment in Old San Juan can only be described as 'fabulous'. The apartment is spacious, extremely quiet, clean and modern with an 'Old San Juan' feel. Every convenience was available, including a washer/dryer across the hall from our second floor entrance. The upstairs master bedroom was spacious; the second bedroom with bunk beds was perfectly fine. Perhaps the highlight of this wonderful apartment is the enormous (100+ foot long) private roof deck, a perfect place for enjoying the late afternoon sun with a mojito. The location is perfect as there are literally dozens of restaurants and shops within a 10 minute walk. We spent two weeks in this amazing apartment and had no desire to leave. The bottom line: we doubt that there is any apartment in Old San Juan that could surpass this 'find'.

This apt was a breath of fresh air! We came from a dump on Vieques that almost ruined our vacation. Located in wonderful Old San Juan it's within walking distance to tourist sites, grocery stores & wonderful restaurants. Up a short flight of stairs (15-18) to a cute 2bd, 1bth apt with only two other units in the building. Lots of windows that let in fresh air & sunlight, felt safe enough to leave open large pass through windows in kitchen even when out. The ceiling is high with beautiful beams and shuttered windows that let in the breeze. Living room is very bright & open to kitchen, seats 4 people comfortably, includes satellite TV & internet. Kitchen fully appointed, open to courtyard for meals. The master bd is airy, light & nice sized, think the bed is a double by our standards, has TV. 2nd bd has single top bunk with double on bottom, smallish room but lots of closet space. Bth is nicely decorated with shower, not a lot of counter space but very nice. The crowing glory is the rooftop terrace where you can relax & absorb the sun, even in middle of town its quiet. Highly recommend this apt but not for someone with limited mobility. Stairs to the 2nd floor bds & bth very steep, stair treads tall & narrow overall. Really enjoyed my stay in this adorable apt & Wanda the mgr was lovely & helpful. Would most definitely book this place again!!!

minneapolisGreat, authentic place to stay in the heart of Old Town.
Left on 02/14/2013 for a stay in January 2013
We were 2 couples who stayed in Wanda's Old San Juan apartment in January of 2013. The apartment is as nice as the photos appear: spacious but cozy living/kitchen, bedrooms upstairs, very well equipped and a short walk from anywhere in Old Town. The apartment is in the 2nd and 3rd floor of a colonial style courtyard building with some interior spaces shared with 2 or three owner-occupied apartments in the same building giving one an very authentic sense of what it could be like to live in a place. It's right on Tetuan which is one of few Old Town streets which is not packed with traffic day and night. The rooftop patio is a great place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of an action packed vacation. On site free laundry was nice to have after a week of exploring Puerto Rico. A second bath would be great but what are you going to do? The owner was welcoming but in no way intrusive, we got great suggestions for sights, shops and restaurants. Communications about inquiry, reservation, payment and departure were prompt, professional and reasonable. A great place to stay in Old Town at a reasonable price.

We rented Wanda's place for a week in Nov. She was very friendly! We loved the private roof top patio, and came back to the Canadian winter with a nice tan!! Everything was in walking distance and easily accessible. I highly recommend anyone to stay here, and enjoy the real "old San Juan" expierence in Wanda's beautiful apartment.
Thanks for the hospitality! We will be back! -

This rental is definitely all that it is written up to be. Wanda is sweet woman.
My experience started well before my arrival in San Juan. Wanda communication skills were all that I'd ever ask for, especially from a renter in a country I'd never been to before.
She rapidly responded to all of my emails.
I called her as soon as we landed and her uplifting & welcoming spirit came through the phone immediately. She gave directions to our cab driver to ensure our quick arrival to the correct location. At check in, she provided us w/ a map marked w/ key locations, including the local food market.
The condo was amazing! I cannot say enough good things. It was open, clean, & upgraded with new fixtures. Being that I was celebrating my 25th birthday, I appreciated that It was literally right up the street from a happening block of restaurants turned night spots after hours. That being said, you could not hear a a bit of the music, not inside the condo nor on top of the open private roof top. We didn't need a car rental in the city, the condo was within walking distance from everything beautiful in Old San Juan.
I could go on, but I'm just going to say that I am looking forward to next year. I will be staying here again :)Response from Wanda L Cooper - 12/01/2012

I just want to start by saying Wanda is a wonder person in side and out. We arrived early and let us check in right away. The house is so beautiful when you first walk in you feel at home. The place was clean and so big. Where we spent most of our time was the roof top. Wow that is a great location and the sky was so nice to look up at night. If we could that would be our family vaction home. Next time in Puerto Rico I will for sure stay here. Our family that came to check out the place feel in love too. Thank you Wanda for everything. Love your home.

This beautiful 2 bedroom, completely remodeled 17th Century apartment was a total dream. Located in one of Old San Juan's best kept secret streets, this apartment is close to the castles, convents, waterfront and the best restaurants on the island. Wanda, the on-site keeper, is a charming woman who is always looking how to make your stay in this wonderful historic city a true adventure. The apartment has a marvelous roof top terrace where we tanned and partied.
