MichiganOur most memorable vacation yet!
Left on 01/25/2013 for a stay in December 2012
This was our second visit to Nicaragua. Upon our return this yr, the 1st week we stayed in the beautiful resort of Monticristo, north-west Nicaragua with our friends from the states whom had built a beautiful home on the Pacific in 2010. The second week of our stay, we headed down to San Juan Del Sur(our first time there)where we rented this incredibly, gorgeous condo directly on the beach. I had read many of the reviews prior to renting the condo and also did my homework on Sjds before we arrived. As noted in several reviews, the Italian/Pizza restaurant was our favorite. The pasta dishes where some of the finest that we've had. Barrio Cafe, 2 blocks in from the beach, is the best kept secret in town. The food, service and ambiance of this cafe is second to none. We were not expecting how reasonably priced the food and drinks were there. It reminded me of Meixco 30 yrs. ago. The property Manager, Terry, was the best! We were able to contact him by using the phone in the condo at any time. He was so personable and made our first visit to Sjds very comfortable for first timers. If you are concerned about safety or crime in Nicaragua, do not worry. On our second day at Sjda we went to Maderas Beach with some friends for the day. We left our camera there and did not realize until the following evening. Upon mentioning this to Terry, he drove out there & found our camera locked up by one of the staff at the Palapa, waiting for us to return. Nica's are hard working, honest people. Wherever we went in Sjds, we were greeted with smiles and kindness. It was so refreshing to visit a country again where everyone takes so much pride in themselves and their country. Christine was very helpful sending pic's of the 2 condo's answering any questions we had. Our condo was exactly the way she had described to us. There's nothing better than walking along the beach to go into town, whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It is now our goal to purchase a retirement home in Nica!

We stayed for 3 nights. It was very relaxing with the great views and pool. Walking distance to town along the beach. Property had security and always felt safe. Fellow that checked us in was very helpful and was available to answer question and give opions on things to do (his name slips my mind).

The condo was nicer then in the photos. Terry was a huge help and offered suggestions for activities. We wanted a quiet relaxing vacation and that is what we got. I would think we will be returning soon. Thank you so much for making this a very easy vacation.

Orange County CaliforniaIndescribable view and all the amenities of home
Left on 12/17/2012 for a stay in February 2012
Where do I start? The condo has the most magnificent and peaceful view. There is a dining table and chairs on the balcony so we ate all our meals outside where we could enjoy the view. We cooked most of our meals in the kitchen but did go out to Viviana's one evening and, of course, stopped at Eskimo for ice cream. The walk into town along the beach is easy, relaxing and safe. We only walked in the day time and the evening we went out, took a cab back as it was after dark. The condo has two bedrooms and two bathrooms so it was perfect for the four of us. There is a 40 inch flat screen TV, wi-if and air conditioning. All the comforts of home was provided. I would recommend stopping off at a grocery store before arriving as you won't want to leave once you are there! For those that are not beach goers, there is an amazing infinity pool and lounge area. If you want maid service, speak to Christine so she can coordinate. If you really want to get away, yet be comfortable, this place is perfect!

Left on 03/12/2012 for a stay in February 2012
I traveled with my husband and our two friends. We came from Chicago and stayed a week.
The Good:
The weather is awesome, the condo is located so close to the beach and even if it rains it's beautiful. The air conditioning works and there are security guards on duty.
The Bad:
The condo has no extra TP, so pick some up while you're grocery shopping if you're going to be longer than a few days.
The rooftop hot-tub was a petri dish of bacteria and had visibly not be maintained.
The Ugly:
We understood that the car ride from the airport in Managua would be an hour long. It took closer to 3 hours.
Christine claimed that Oscar spoke English. That was barely true. It took us several minutes for him to explain the following debacle to us.
Since we were staying just a short week, we wanted to make the most of our time there and took a crack-of-dawn flight (that was much more expensive) out of Chicago to make it to Sjds by mid-day. When we got in the car, our driver, Oscar said he had to wait on another couple who's flight was getting in 2 hours later than ours (the flight we could have taken if we didn't spend the extra money to be on the early flight). After having to kill 2 hours in downtown Managua, we finally picked up the other couple (thank goodness Oscar had a minivan) and started on the long trek to the condo.
We don't blame Oscar as it appears that Christine told the other couple that he was driving them too. The ride to-and-from the condo was longer than 2 hours each way - an impossible span for just one driver and just 2 hours between flights. When we called Christine to address the situation, she said that we do not need to paid Oscar for the ride back to the airport. We thought that was unfair as she's the one who double-booked him - knowing our flight times and the required drive time to the condo.
After getting up at 3 am CST, spending 5 hours flying and 6 hours in a car we finally made it to the condo as the sun was setting. So much for extra time there :(
Other points about the area:
- Garbage is everywhere
- Tipping is inconsistent, some bills include it so be careful
- Be sure you have a handle on the Spanish language as no one speaks it very well
- A lot of the town closes down on Sundays
- Treat the stray dogs and cats like pigeons - don't feed them unless you want them hanging around
Good places to eat:
Bamboo Beach
El Timon
Mesa (for breakfast)
Not so good places to eat:
Big Wave Dave's
Meson Espanol

Sorry but the rooftop spa was undergoing maintenance at the time. The trip from Managua to San Juan del Sur is approximately 100 miles so it will take between 2 1/2 to 3hrs depending on the time of day. Oscar the taxi driver like most locals has limited English but tries his best. He was to have anothertaxi and driver with him and should not have made you wait - my apologies. He informed me that his other taxi guy had let him down so then he decided to wait so I made an arrangement that he should not charge you the departure transportation back to Managua. Re the garbage Central America is not quite like the USA or Canada. However locals are very friendly and kind. Finally re tipping in most places it is up to the customer to tip what they feel - there is no strict ruling on this and waiters are happy with whatever you feel you should give. Some restaurants will add 10% tipping charge but it is not always mandatory.

I absolutely recommend this luxury condo for rent. You can use the pool or can swim in the ocean. on week days we were alone, for the weekend one family arrived, so it is not crowded at all. restaurants are avaliable within 15 minutes by walking on the cost at affordable prices. Absolutely amazing view from the terrace onto the bay. Youngsters can get entertainment/fiesta in several bars.

Plano, TXIncredible views
Left on 07/13/2011 for a stay in July 2011
The condo was amazing. Christine, the property manager was very helpful and answered all of my questions and concerns. The pictures of the property and it's views, do not do it justice. The view from the balcony is amazing. After looking around the town and visiting the Pelican Eye resort for dinner, the view from this condo can't be beat. We stayed with our two children and they loved playing the ocean and pool. There are no restaurants nearby, but a 15-20 min. walk into town along the beach, will land you at several different restaurant choices. We ate at several restaurants including an Italian pizza place directly on the beach. It served yummy brick oven pizza and they will even deliver. El Timon had good grilled chicken and seafood. My favorite place was a place on the beach that has "bay " in its name, but I can't remember the name. They are between the Bamboo restaurant (which smelled very good, but we ran out of time to try it), and El Timon. We ate two meals at the condo and ate one meal out every day. We also stopped for ice cream at Eskimo a couple of times. We had our driver, Oscar, take us to the grocery store Pali in town. So we had yogurt, pancakes, eggs, and toast for breakfast and Grilled cheese, sandwiches, and spaghetti for lunch.

Thank you Sarah for taking the time to send a review. This will help other renters when they have to choose where to stay in San Juan del Sur. Yes the views from the condo balcony is undescribable and the kitchen is fully equipped to cook a three course meal if you wish. The Eskimo ice-cream parlor is probably one of the most inexpensive parlors you will ever visit. Please return again and maybe I will have the pleasure to meet you and your family.Thank you for renting our condo.

Sugar Land, Texas USAGreat Stay at La Talanguera Condo - San Juan Del Sur
Left on 07/07/2011 for a stay in June 2011
This 2BR/2Ba unit has a spectacular view of the harbor and Pacific Ocean and is a first rate luxury condo. The infinity pool that sits a few meters above the ocean and poolside amenities are first rate as well. The premises were very quiet throughout the week, and a few families showed up on the weekends--but still remained quiet. This was a perfect stay for us. Recommend first time visitors line up a driver/taxi to take you into/back from town on demand (as we did) as the driving nuances here are somewhat challenging. This was a great value compared to "the typical" carribbean or Mexican vacation.

Left on 03/27/2011 for a stay in March 2011
We loved our stay. The condo was terrific. The views from the balcony were awesome. We were with our two children (2 and 9 months) and they enjoyed the pool and spending time on the beach. Christine even purchased a crib for us so we didn't have to bring one from Minnesota.
The condo is about 5 to 10 minutes from town. If it were just my wife and I it wouldn'tt have been a problem. However, with the two kids it was a long walk. We would recommend renting a golf cart or car if you are traveling with kids.
We hope to be back. The place was great. Thanks -

Dallas, TXSan Juan Del Sur Condo Review - a perfect spring break vacation!
Left on 03/24/2011 for a stay in March 2011
We make this Condo home for a week in March 2011 for Spring Break. The condos are brand new and the view of the bay is absolutely beautiful. The property is very well maintained and very secure.
You can walk 10 minutes down the beach to get into town .. which is full of great restaurants and friendly people. We quickly became regulars at the Barrio Cafe for breakfast each morning. Be sure to try the authentic Italian Brick Oven baked pizza at the restaurant right down on the beach - its right next to the Blue Marlin (which was another of our favorites).
I was a bit concerned that our 18 year old son who came along would get bored - but he loved this place too. He had always wanted to try surfing - and we found the guys at Mope surf shop great -- he was able to get board rental - a ride to a surf beach - and lesson at very reasonable $25. If you have your own board and don't need lesson - the round trip is only $5.
There are a lot things to do in Sjds besides surfing - we also went deep sea fishing one day while we were there (the staff at the Blue Marlin prepared our catch for us for lunch). We ran out of time before we ran of things we wanted to do.. We are already talking about plans for our next trip.
Christine and Joe were very helpful and made some recommendations that were spot on. I originally wanted to rent a car at the Managua airport and drive. Unless you have driven it before I would recommend a taxi for the 1st trip .. we didn't need a car once we got the Sjds, We could walk to town and taxi from town back is only a few dollars if we didn't want to walk.
All of the restaurants took visa and MC. Everyone there uses both the local currency (cordobas) or us dollars. There are also atm's in town that will let you choose either currency.
