My family just got back from a week at Casa Tranquila. It is a wonderful place. The setting is gorgeous and very private. It is a bit like camping, as someone noted earlier, with the open walls and screens throughout but you do have plenty of privacy within your group. Not a good choice for anyone with arachnophobia or who doesn't like the outdoors. We had howler monkey's (and their tiny babies) visit and watch us as we swam in the pool. Good exercise walking to beaches (or quickly driving down) and the fish tacos at Maderas were so good, not to be missed. Gabby was so wonderful and very helpful. She booked us a catamaran trip, a ferry ride over to Ometepe, massages at the house and answered all of our questions quickly. We drove into town and the surrounding often and the roads are rough but not so bad that you don't want to explore. I would certainly recommend this house to anyone with a sense of adventure, who likes to be off the beaten path and enjoys a simple, quiet vacation.

Please see previous review about cautions. This house is isolated and in a remote area. We loved this house and our week long stay. It met the needs of our family-- myself, husband, daughter, son-in-law, two grandchildren and our teenage son. Each of us had individual living quarters and a shared common area-kitchen. Our son and son-in-law could leave in the am drive to the beach access and walk to Playa Maderas for surfing. My husband and I explored the roadways/trails for birding/natural history. We stocked up on supplies to avoid the long rough drive in and cooked our meals. The house was the perfect fit for this nature loving family. We plan on returning!

33450The perfect vacation home, as long as you know what your getting

Casa Tranquila is a fantastic vacation get away, I loved it! However, not everyone in our group did. Keep in mind this is not a resort. The house is located 25 min from town on a very, very rough road. If you plan on going to town a lot, this will get old fast. Planning meals to avoid grocery runs is important. The property is very isolated and you do not see any other houses. This was all plus in my book!
There is a very limited supply of hot water as it is solar heated. There is really only one hot shower located in the master bath. The lower house has only cold water and the house with the two rooms only had a trickle of hot water. Again for us this was not a problem, but it could be inconvenient if you were expecting hot water.
The beds were great and very comfortable. Keep in mind that there are no walls, only screens. The property is very isolated so privacy was not a problem. I loved hearing the sounds and feeling the constant breeze. One in our group said they felt like they were camping.
Tv work perfect with English Dish network channels. There was an iPod dock.
Our "concierge" was Gabby. I don't know if she does all the rentals but she is amazing. She made everything easy and carefree. Her service is second to none. She greeted us and drove us up to the property (would be very hard to find on your own) and took care of everything from making sure we had clean towels, to arranging trips, to letting us know where to get cheese.
The beach is 20 min walk or 5 min drive down a steep hill then through a very nice forest. You can drive right up to the beach. The beach is has the feel of being virtually private. Even on the peak season on New Years it felt almost empty.
One big word of advise, especially if bring small children is that scorpions and tarantulas are everywhere. This is just part of being in the forest. Tarantulas will not hurt you but they do gross you out. The scorpions do hurt and make your mouth and tongue numb for a day. I got stung during our stay. I would not say this is a deterrent, just good to know.
The house has it own guard 24/7 just below the bottom house. They can help with anything you need but only speak Spanish. The house really doesn't lock, it just to much of an open concept. They have a box to put valuables in, helpful to bring an pad lock for this.
We saw howler monkeys daily, and there is a great view of Playa Maderas. You can see people surfing from the house! If yo walk up the road being the house until you reach the concert water tank you will be rewarded with an outstanding view, perfect for sunsets.
