After a two hour drive from Managua, going through a vast landscape with volcanic peaks appearing from time to time, you will get to the quaint town of San Juan del Sur. From there you will take a dirt road and drive through little hamlets and houses into the thick vegetation of the nearby forests adjacent to the ocean. After a 20 minute drive, you will arrive to the community of Balcones de Majagual. Casa La Serena is the first house you come to.

This home is a lovely jungle treehouse with a layout that offers maximum privacy. A wonderful pool offer prime views over the jungle, ocean and gorgeous sunsets. Howler monkeys and birds provide your morning alarm. Gabby the concierge is extremely helpful in organizing activities around Sjds. However, the property promised hot water. On the first day we notified property management that the hot water was not working. During our full week stay they were unable to resolve the problem nor were they willing to compensate us for the lack of an amenity promised in the listing. While the house was unique and allowed us to enjoy the jungle beauty of Nicaragua, the cold showers and lack of responsiveness by property management served to remove some of the magic from our experience.

Our week at Casa La Serena was amazing. Its location is perfect - relax at the pool overlooking the Pacific or head down the hill to a beautiful beach. The best of both worlds. The kitchen is well equipped and we enjoyed the local produce, coffee and rum. Wifi access was good. Felt very safe. The service from Laura and Gabby were fantastic. Would definitely go back.

We had the best time at Casa La Serena. Everything was perfect, we felt right at home from the moment we walked in the door. The view and sunsets were beautiful and the pool was just awesome. You will not be dissapointed if you stay here!
