We were on our honeymoon and wanted a place where we can relax and enjoy. Staying at Casa Selva delivered and then some. On our stay, we had all of the conveniences such as a full baths, spacious bedrooms and living areas, cleaning services, security, bbq, and a well equipped kitchen, right down to all the necessary spices to cook various cuisines. The best feature was the amazing views and gorgeous sunsets. Close to town and beaches. Highly recommend staying at Casa Selva.
Four of us stayed at Casa Selva for two weeks in early May. Everything was pretty great. Amazing views, beaches, and wildlife. We were all there to relax and do as little as possible and that was definitely achieved. Spent most of our time in the house or on the surrounding beaches enjoying the wonderful ocean water. The pool was a great place for a cocktail and a dip in the evening. Besides a few scorpion and power mishaps the house was clean, well maintained, and the 24-hour staff was always there to help. A great place if you're looking for something out of the way and quiet for your vacation. Thanks Joel and Laura!

stayed at casa selva for 1 week. unforgettable experience. the house is built archetecturally in harmony with its surroundings and is lovely; as was the pool.
Mandy, our concierge, Don Carlos, our watchman, and Fabiola, our cook for 1 night, were great.
local beaches are the main draw as well as the small beach town of San Juan Del Sur. Surprising the number of american/Canadian ex-pats in town. If you like zip-lining, Da Flying Frog was better than the one we did in Hawaii.
this is nature so do remember to bring mosquito repellent and binoculars. Also, be ready to see any number of small creatures from monkeys to land crabs.
note: we visited toward the end of the dry season, so the jungle valley was dry. for a more lush view, I would recommend staying more toward the beginning of the dry season. renting a 4x4 is a must as they have dirt roads and the house is about 25min to town.
Thank you, Joel and Laura for a memorable vacation. Read more
Alma- thank you for being such a wonderful guest. Laura and i are thrilled you enjoyed your time at Casa Selva as much as we do. And what great pics! Happy travels. J & L

My adult son and I had the pleasure of living in the jungle of Nicaragua, in Casa Selva, for 7 weeks. The experience will be remembered for a lifetime. The length of the stay enabled us to make Casa Selva our home, and we became intimately familiar with life in the jungle from a place of comfort! The house is gorgeous, the pictures are 100% true. The home is spaceous, impeccably clean and well kept, and provided the conveniences of very important items like several styles of coffee pots, a well-equipped kitchen (pots and pans, dishes and small appliances), and two types of filtered water. The fridge was large enough for us to stock a weeks worth of groceries, no problem.
The house is well screened (many windows) and it feels as though you are living outside ... the sounds of the jungle are with you in the comfort of your bedroom! The monkey sounds became an expected and familiar part of every morning, as did the parakeets' squabbles. The lightning and thunder events could be watched from the living room, and the sunsets were spectacular.
The other conveniences were much appreciated ... back up power, WiFi, hot showers, a cool swimming pool after a hike back from the beach! The cleaning service was amazing, laundry service too.
The location was isolated enough to feel apart from civilization (a welcome break, especially for two writers), but close enough to Sjds to enjoy the conveniences of grocery stores and restaurants. We rented a vehicle for the first 2 weeks, and then opted to have a driver/4x4 vehicle pick us up and drive us to town for our supplies once a week.
Thank you so much, Casa Selva, for providing us an amazing home base for our jungle experience! Read more
Shelley, it was a pleasure having you and your son at Casa Selva. We felt like our home was a home during your stay! Thank-you for your emails and updates while you were there, and we truly hope to have you return again in the future!

Casa Selva was a spectacular get away in an absolutely beautiful part of Nicaragua. The house is at the top of a ridge overlooking the Pacific Ocean. About a mile away is a very private beach with a wonderful cabana. The beach is gorgeous and is a short walk north from Playa Medera, one of the best surfing beaches on the Nicaraguan Pacific Coast. San Juan Del Sur is a 20 minute SUV ride down the mountain and we enjoyed several dinners there. The food was outstanding and the town was very entertaining since it was spring break there and they had about 50,000 more people in town that normal.
We really enjoyed the wildlife including the monkeys, birds, and iguanas. The monkeys come very close to the house and are so entertaining to watch. The roads are not good so you need a 4 wheel drive to get around. Casa Selva is in a gated community and there is security always nearby. We felt very secure and the guards were all very helpful and friendly.
Great trip and we would absolutely stay at Casa Selva if we have a chance to visit Nicaragua again.

Of all the places I've visited in various countries, Casa Selva in Nicaragua most perfectly captures everything I'd want in the perfect vacation spot. From the property, its a quick drive to San Juan Del Sur, a charming tourist town with loads to do (eat, drink, shop, swim etc). The property is also a few minutes walk from the most gorgeous tranquil beach, and a quick drive to one of the area's best surfing beaches. After a fun-filled adventurous day, the house itself is truly a fairytale to come back to. Every detail inside is immaculate and gorgeous, with impeccable style, while remaining indulgently comfortable at the same time. The views are spectacular and the sunsets are not to be missed. Being situated on the ridge, in the middle of so much nature was equal parts thrilling (saw monkeys!) and peaceful. The pool is fabulous and we spent many hours kicking back in the sun, swimming. The extra special added perks are that the owners are super wonderful and were a big help in answering all my questions. In addition, there was a consierge available to help me plan and make reservations. The onsite staff were wonderful as well and we loved seeing them each day and saying hello. In short, Casa Selva will exceed your every expectation. It certainly exceeded mine!

My wife and I just got back from staying at Casa Selva. We had such an amazing time there and fell in love with the house instantly! We've been to several all inclusives but this was the best trip by far! We rented a 4x4 to get back and forth to town-which we would recommend. San Juan is a friendly little town, full of Central american culture and even though we didn't speak a lot of Spanish we were able to get by. The sunsets were breath-taking, which we enjoyed from the beach and from the house. The howling monkeys had us up earlier in the morning which was great because we didn't want to miss anything! We did some surfing at Managua beach (first time ever), the zipline canopy tour and went for a tour with our guide Francisco to Grenada to see the active volcano (amazing!!) and to check out the local market (souveniers etc.) We also went to El Gato Negro the local coffee shop in town and picked up some coffee beans for our morning coffee. The photos of the house are accurate. It was really refreshing to feel the breeze flowing through the house and the concrete helps to keep the house cool. The guards were friendly and helpful although most of them only spoke Spanish "no problemo" we used our trusty spanish dictionary which was at the house. All-in-all the best trip ever. Very safe and a great return for your dollar! Go check it out!! Read more
It was a treat to assist you in your first off resort vacation, and we are thrilled it was everything you dreamed it to be! We look forward to having you return in the future. As for the early morning monkey wake-ups, they just don't seem to understand the art of sleeping in! Wonderful working with you both on making your honeymoon special.

My girlfriend and my recent stay at Casa Selva was absolutely amazing. I was so excited to take my first trip to Nicaragua and the owners answered all our questions and helped us in so many ways. This house is straight out of architectural digest with the views of the ocean from the house that are picture perfect and sunsets that are stunning. For me, one of the best parts of the stay was the proximity of the beaches and that i had a choice of 3 to go to each offering a different waters. There is a beach with waters great for swimming, another with smaller waves for fun and one with huge waves for surfing. I finally learned how to surf and boogie board. The infinity pool at Casa Salva was also a bonus, it was so nice to wake up and take a dip in the pool, relax, while watching monkeys swinging in the trees around us. And zipling in town was amazing too.
We rented 2 vehicles during our stay in Nicaragua. We got ourselves a Hilux from Dollar to explore the north of the country and switched over to the landcruiser when we got to the house. These landcruisers are fantastic, not much luxury, but great fun on those dirt roads around the house. Awesome time and I can't wait to go back.

The first thing we noticed was the gentle breezed that kept the mosquitoes away and kept us just the right temperature! Then, that the house is much more spacious than in the pictures. There was a lot of attention to detail, the kitchen had everything you'd need, and there was a lot of information left about the house itself, the area, the town, the beaches, etc. The staff were always nearby, we felt away from it all but if we needed anything they were close. Having the internet was great too.
You really do need a 4x4 on the roads but it's easy to rent one. We picked up our truck from the airport in Managua, and returned it for no extra cost in Sjds. Laura and Joel were helpful in arranging a shuttle through Izkra Tours in Sjds back to the airport.
We are total beach bums, and the beaches in Nicaragua are perfection. Especially the ones close to Casa Selva. It was common to be the only people on the beach, and no one cares if you're having a beer on a hot day or there late and night having a bonfire under the stars listening to music and passing around a bottle of rum. You can totally, 100%, just relax. No restrictions. And if laying on the beach get's old, you can go surfing or boogieboarding. There were lots of boards to rent and lessons to be had at the "surf beach" where we could also buy drinks and tacos and watch the pros surf.
While in Sjds we went to Da Flying Frog zipline. This is the one they went to as part of a reward challenge in Survivor. Also in town we went out to the Iguana bar for a night of partying, to Big Wave Daves for the best nachos, and Gato Negro for great coffee and fresh warm baking.
I know we'll be back soon, we're already planning our next trip there!

I advise arriving during daylight hours, both for ease of travel on the bumpy, dirt roads and for being able to view the beauty that you are about to experience!
My first morning found me waking pleasantly to a cacophony of jungle music; tropical birds, male Howler monkeys calling out their territory, and the sweet sounds of geckos all made for a zoological treat! Witness the beauty of a Nicaraguan sunset on the Pacific Ocean which you can see from the house's veranda.
Casa Selva provides modern architecture with a cosy feel and a beautiful warm breeze. The house provides you with all the amenities you'll need. The grounds' and security staff are all friendly and very helpful.
To reach the house, I suggest renting an all-terrain vehicle and knowing how to drive standard transmission. The closest town, San Juan del Sur, has everything you need to stock your fridge and cupboards for your stay.
Although the house is hidden away in the jungle, you are minutes from one of the most beautiful beaches around!
If exploring is your interest, one must definitely venture to the island paradise of Ometepe. A drive and ferry-ride away, the site of the volcanos, and the peace and quiet of being on the island is a paradise. Stay at an organic farm; and paddle a kayak along Lake Nicaragua's shores to spot turtles on the rocks and monkeys in the trees!
I recommend reading Gioconda Belli's book, "The Country Under My Skin" before arriving to Nicaragua. This author's eloquence and poise describe a very real and very personal history of a country that has suffered greatly through revolution. Amazingly, the people I came across during my stay, had nothing but smiles and warmth to offer a "gringa tourist" on vacation. Belli's book provides for an excellent backdrop and preparation to better understand and appreciate the depth and beauty of Nicaragua and its people.
Enough said?! Now go stay at Casa Selva and enjoy your jungle adventure!

My husband and I rented Casa Selva for our honeymoon a couple of weeks ago. We wanted something easy and laid back without going to an all inclusive. And we found it here. The house is absolutely beautiful and very comfortable. While we were there it was just about into the rainy season so a bit muggy or so we were told. We could not feel it inside the house. With the way the house is designed we got a constant breeze from both sides of the house and had the fans just in case. And the amazing pool was just a few feet away. The perfect spot to watch a sunset if you ask me. The beds were comfy, the kitchen was fully equipped for anything you might need. A set of instructions, information and contact numbers are provided in the house for any eventuality ( this includes maps, phrase books etc.)The staff on the grounds were very helpful, they even washed our truck for us and helped us with our bags. Oh and speaking of bags, my husband's did not arrive with us but the next day it appeared at our door. The airport had brought it to the concierge who drove it to the house for us. The concierge was fantastic as well. The day we arrived she had a driver meet us and drive us from the airport to town, took us for groceries and then escorted us up to the house. And was always available to us if we had questions or needs. In town the local culture is wonderful. Fresh fish almost everyday at the market, coffee , books and the best brownies in the world at El Gato Negro( the local coffee shop ..a must) The people are very nice, helpful , friendly and welcoming.
All in all this is a place we will go back to. If you are someone who loves to travel and wants to stay a little off the beaten path this is the place for you.
Trust us, those sunsets off the Pacific are not to be missed!

The beach, the house, the weather, the jungle sounds: all amazing! The house is beautiful feels like a natural extension of the jungle. Totally off the beaten path, in a good way. And in town and at the beach you definitely won't get a mob of tourists. There are several beaches to choose from, all with something different to offer; it's a perfect place for surfers of all abilities. For beginners (like myself), the warm Pacific was very forgiving. For those looking for a little adventure, this is the place for you!

Beautiful house in an amazing setting. Very secluded, around 15-20 minutes drive from San Juan, very close to three great beaches; the two swimming beaches were all but deserted, the surf beach is busier but nothing compared to what we've seen in Costa Rica. Many other options within driving distance (4x4 is a good idea, especially if it's been raining!) House was very clean and well appointed; nice furniture, beds were fine, kitchen was well equipped, pool is close by. Staff on site were friendly and helpful. Except for the concierge who is fluent, not much English spoken. The design of the house is quite stunning: posted pics were accurate.
