      Too much fun

Left on 04/01/2013 for a stay in February 2013

This was the vacation for us. We went as a family and enjoyed the island as it is not as commercial as many places. Very good food and weather. Fishing is good, caught 18 lb. grouper and numerous large snapper on a 1/2 day charter and made a deal with the boat owner to go again at a reduced price. Cooked fish on the grill with some local fresh vegetables which was a delight. Island cost is very reasonable. Took a trip to the Mayan Ruins and did some cave tubing which was exceptional. Nice and relaxing. Island is very safe. No down side...

Sunset Beach is a beautiful spot a little south of San Pedro. It was lovely sitting on the deck every morning and lying by the water. Only wish there had been a better swimming area, though the pool was wonderful. It was easy and fun to go into town on the golf cart, though, there were places to go within walking distance. We enjoyed lunch at the Flying Pig and the chicken at Robin's.

      Relaxing

Left on 03/04/2013 for a stay in February 2013

My family and I stayed at Sunset Beach for three nights and had an enjoyable time on the south side of the island. The condo has great access to a beach area that is well maintained. You could also snorkel right off of the pier and see quite a variety of fish and even some corals. The property was well maintained and very quiet...a nice place to relax. The condo itself comfortably slept six people. My only complaint is that a couple of the small appliance items need to be replaced. The toaster oven only worked on one side and the coffee maker had started to rust. Overall, it was a good experience and we are glad we stayed at Sunset Beach...having Suya tours right across the street was an added bonus. We enjoyed our three snorkel trips with them. This is a nice quiet resort to spend time with family or friends.

      Sunset Beach - San Pedro

Left on 03/03/2013 for a stay in May 2012

Girls trip of 5 chose the Sunset Beach for our yearly girls trip. We enjoyed this location / condo. We worked with the owners and Dee throughout the booking until we traveled and they were wonderful. They answered all questions and even setup our transfer flights and taxi from the airport and even our golf cart rental, which they brought and picked up for us. We liked our location south of town as well. The taxi will stop you at the grocery store on your way to the condo, but I advise you be careful. We were taken full advantage of by outrageous prices on our way to the condo. Ask prices and carefully check. We loved our corner store which was right behind the condo around the corner. There is an onsite caretaker that is available to answer any and all questions. We had no issues with our resort / condo or safety concerns which was wonderful. We enjoyed the store, the fresh market and took advantage of the kitchen in the condo for some meals and also enjoyed El Fogon & Hurricanes Ceviche Bar on the water for meals along with another south of the condo they were all wonderful. While at Hurricanes we met Daniel of Tanisha Tours and we booked him for a trip which he allowed us girls to customize. He picked us up right from our dock and took us snorkeling, shark ray alley, a tour of Caye Caulker and then to see the manatees and through the backside lagoon back to our dock. He is a wealth of information we enjoyed him and he was very patient as many of us were first time snorkelers and it was all our first time in Belize. I highly recommend Daniel with Tanisha Tours. You will see many jewelry and seafood sales man outside the condo periodically and that was neat. I would highly recommend this stay @ Sunset Beach.

Our visit to Sunset Beach was awesome. The rooms are beautiful, the complex quiet and the beach is right out front. It's clear the owners take great pride in their condos. It's was far enough from town to have the privacy we wanted, yet close enough to visit when we wanted.

      Wish I was there!!

Left on 01/18/2013 for a stay in October 2012

So it has been a while coming, as we all get uber-busy during the holidays, but I wanted to find time to write a review as it is a well deserving property.

My husband and I, along with my elderly parents, stayed in your "Gilligan" unit (I don't remember the number of it) in October 2012.

Although I was extremely disappointed that we were there when the pool was in the middle of the re-do, I do want to let you know that the rest of our stay at your property couldn't have been better!

We all, and I'll be a bit selfish here and say especially me, had a very relaxing and enjoyable time. Your property certainly facilitated that!

The place was nice and cool and clean and well maintained and had all the aminities of home. Even down to the sunscreen, sun hat, cooking spices, and toaster! We were able to enjoy a few outings, with the help of the golf cart and Carlos and Mitch. And we enjoyed several great meals both out and in, that came by recommendations as well.

I just wanted to say thank you for the hospitality and comfort, but also for helping us w/everything that would help ensure a memorable time for both my husband and I, and also a memorable time for my elderly parents.

(Although I was a bit "snarky" to the girl you have helping you down there -- was it Dee? -- she was very helpful and friendly too. If you communicate with her, please tell her thanks from us as well. She was very tolerable of my exhaustion and attitude when we arrived.)

Anyway, I just wanted to drop you a line and say thanks. We'd love to stay at your property again the next time we make a trip down there if it is still availble. And I can't wait to try out that newly re-done pool... it looked like it was goin to be beautiful!!

Here is wishing you a warm winter and beautiful spring.

There were almost 30 of us for this trip. Some stayed in town, some rented houses (Casa amarillo and the one next door) and others like myself rented condos. Out of all these rentals Sunset Beach had the best ocean front view. The unit we stayed in opened right on the beach and it was the only rental that you could walk straight into the water. Sunset Beach was very clean with three large bedrooms, two good sized bathrooms, stocked kitchen, living room and dining room. The condo also had the best a/C unit out of all of them. There was an onsite maintenance guy and a local rep. for the property. I was very pleased with the price, service, cleanliness and ease of booking. Everything went great with no hidden fees and I can recommend this property. In fact, the couple staying in town decided to move down to this same property as the units were so nice.

Excellent Stay at "Wish you were here" Condo!

Left on 07/24/2012 for a stay in July 2012

My wife and I stayed at Sunset Beach Condos for our honeymoon and had an absolutely wonderful experience!

The condo is very nice, relaxing, spacious, private, and cozy. It includes:
      - Full kitchen with everything you need if you want to cook (not to mention a blender for frozen drinks!);
      - Porch overlooking beach with palm trees (and hammock) and the sea.
      - Great pool with hot tub, swim up wet bar you can use, grills, etc.
      - Private dock with covered bench.

The condo is south of town so it is much quieter and more private than the resorts in town, but is still a very easy golf-cart ride into town.

The best part about the condo are the owners, concierge, and groundskeeper that help arrange your trip. They answered every question we had, gave great recommendations for restaurants and tours, etc. They booked our Tropic air flight for us, arranged for a taxi to take us to the condo, booked our golf cart for us and had it waiting for us at the condo when we arrived, etc. It could not have been any easier.

Suya Tours is located 50 feet from your door. The concierge will help you set up snorkelling, Mayan Ruin visits, jungle tours, cave tubing, and many others. The tours leave from the dock outside the condo so you simply walk outside and you are ready to go. Quite simply, it was the most convenient vacation I have ever taken - I felt like we had a group of travel agents that did everything for us for free.

Belize is absolutely beautiful. The people are incredibly nice (much more than when I travelled in Europe). I always felt safe. The food is really good and very reasonably priced. The nightlife is good, but the condo is in a quiet part of town so it won't affect your sleep.

All in all, everything was top notch. I would highly recommend staying at Sunset Beach condos!

      Amazing trip

Left on 07/05/2012 for a stay in June 2012

We just returned from ambergis caye, Belize while staying the entire time at sunset beach resort. The accomodations were perfect for our trip. We had a three bedroom unit with 2 couples and another couple rented a one bedroom. We all commented that three couples in a three bedroom for an extended stay is not the most ideal, feeling a little cramped and sharing a bathroom. Nice for each couple to have there own. Also, the third bedroom had a trundle bed which would have. Even tough for two adults for this length of stay so be sure a inquire exactly the type of bed arrangements your specific unit has since they vary unit to unit. The units are very clean, with every unit having a fantastic view.
Our party all found sunset to be the perfect size complex. It is not a resort setting with resturant on site or lot's of other people. I believe the total units is around 11. We found this just perfect for quiet r&r;, but enough people to have nice conversations with. The pool is kept clean on a daily basis with a great pier for relaxing or boat pick up.
Suya tours is right next door for scuba, snorkel, fishing or land excursions. One of our favorite days was renting a boat and skipper for a half day fishing trip at a very reasonable price.
The location is about 2.5 miles south of town so you either need one of the provided bicycles or a golf cart to get into town. Part of the road can get get very bumpy and wet with rain, but never really a problem. We found the location perfect but consider the location if you want or need easy access to town for your group. (be aware that some petty theft occurs, so always lock your cart or bicycle when in town and never leave any valuables unattended in your cart)
Another grat convenience to sunset is the small store on the corner. It has many of the items you need for cooking plus sodas, beer, etc. Also, the Lonestar resturant is an easy walk up the street and is quite good with reasonable prices.
The use of on site bicycles and kyaks at no charge was fantastic.
We could of been happier with Sunset Beach. Please see my review of amigos divers for our blue hole day.
We loved being south of town and would not have been as happy north of town.
Side note: This are privately owned so each unit has different bed configurations and kitchen utensils.

We had the best time at Sunset Beach. There were five of us that stayed in the 3 Bedroom condo. The beds were a little small for our 6+ft kids but the rest of the amenities were excellent. The local grocery store one block away is a plus.Chapin the caretaker is excellent in helping out with everything. Manolo the taxi driver was by far the cheapest and the most prompt from the others we used. Beautiful dock, we spent a day just lounging on the end of it and taking pictures of the kids jumping off it. The snorkeling boat picked us up at the private dock too!We walked towards town twice but the beach is not real accessible..So a golf cart is recommended.

      We loved this condo

Left on 02/27/2012 for a stay in February 2012

This was our first time in Belize and we didn't know what to expect. This condo was wonderful. It is first level with a patio that is large and the beach is right in front of it. We loved the set-up inside and the kitchen was well stocked. The only downside to the condo which is really, really minor is that it didn't have a dishwasher. The condo also came equipped with beach towels and inflatable floats for the pool. Everyone was so friendly and the caretaker, Chapin, was very nice and very helpful. I would have wished that it was a little closer to town but we looked at some places during the week that were closer and were happy that we chose the place we did. Be sure to rent a golf cart and specify that you want one with a windshield. We didn't do that and wished we had as the sand in the road flies up while you are driving, especially if you are behind another cart. Favorite restaurants in town were Estelle’s for lunch and Caliente’s but our overall favorite was Hidden Treasure which is on the way to town. We recommend the snorkeling trip to Hol Chan. We also went on an excursion to the mainland to see ruins and go cave tubing. We stayed a week and never got to see everything because the condo itself was just so darned relaxing. We are already thinking about our next trip back to Belize.

Great condo with the best stocked kitchen and bath / beach towels of any rental I've ever stayed in. Nice little grocery store right near complex. Lone Star within walking distance and ate several meals there as they open at 8am and do not close until the last person leaves. Loved riding the golf cart to town. You can not really swim from the beach as the seaweed is everywhere. The pool was refreshing. The gronds were well kept and we loved the kayaks and bikes.

At first, we thought that we were a little too far out of town, but after we realized it was just a short bike ride into the 'action', we just enjoyed the peaceful surroundings. Deb Bennet was very helpful in helping us arrange other aspects of our trip. If you want a few days of fun and truly hospitable people, then have a look at Sunset Beach! Upon reading reviews before my arrival, the only complaint I noticed was that some of the lounge chairs didn't have cushions - well, they must have purchased some because this definitely wasn't an issue for us! The condo was beautiful, and the staff was as nice as could be. As shown in the pictures, the condos are right on a secluded part of the beach, which includes a private dock for swimming and tour pickups. Bike rentals are available for free, so we didn't even need to rent a golf cart to get to town (it was only about a 15-20 minute bike ride).

50 ft from the crystal clear waters of Belize! The only thing between the condo and the beach is a hammock to relax in with fresh coconut water. This was our first time in Belize and the island itself came highly recommended, but this condo is in the perfect location! Just far enough from the hustle and bustle of town to relax, but a quick 10 minute golf cart ride into the city. The condo is beautifully decorated with local decor and looks as though it can comfortably sleep 6+ kiddos as we found a pull out sofa in the front room. Though it was just my husband and I for this trip we are planning to re-book for a family vacation next March. Great island and fantastic place to stay!

We arrived at the resort and boomy Sunshine with crystal clear beach/ocean was waiting for us. The unit we stayed was C1, 3 bedroom with all the amenities you can imagine. the kitchen was stocked with everything you would expect from your own home. The beach was clean, quite, with all the privacy you can imagine. The Pool was clean and my kids (I have 3 young ones) loved every minute of playing in the pool. The dock with cabana was an excellent addition where we can walk over and swim with the fishes and small rays, There were 4 Kayaks, that you can use any time, you just have to let the caretaker know. We had 3 young children (7, 6, 4 years old) with grand parents... total of 7 people, and it was a relaxing fun!. Many stores were nearby to do grocery shopping, and we were able to find many items we would normally see in us. Suya tours was literally very next door, so we visited them to set up activites/excursions for various "to-do's” Ambergris Caye can offer in Belize. We went out on Hol Chan Marine life reserve to do guided snorkeling swimming with various fishes, and yes... Rays and Nurse Sharks! We saw sea turtles and beautiful corals. the beach bbq and snokeling was an all day event and loved every minute of it. The tour guides will do everything for you and provided "island style” BBQ luncheon, with fresh caught lobsters and snappers. Another excursion was visiting Lamanai Mayan Ruins, it was great to see all the Mayan pyramids and ancient ruis, which you would normally see in "national geographic”. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for tropical island experience with a lots of snorkeling, fishing, and yes.. just relaxing on the beach! the resort provided us with fishing poles and lines (available through caretaker without extra cost) and my children and I did some fishing on the dock, and yes, we caught some fishes, and crabs! Kid's loved it! We are definitely considering going back next year!

      Two Off the Bucket List

Left on 08/07/2011 for a stay in July 2011

An extraordinary trip for ticks on our bucket list: 1) bonefish by flyrod & 2)swimming with manatees. Our 9 day trip was a spur of the moment decision. We started looking in the eastern Caribbean, but quickly moved west due to hurricane season. As an avid flycaster, bonefish were calling. An hour on the internet led us to Sunset Beach. We dropped an email to Deb & had a response within hours. Deb made arrangements for us to rent a smaller, less expensive condo for 2. We talked by phone - she made terrific suggestions for our first trip to Belize. She put us in touch with Dee, the person with boots on the ground. In less than 36 hours all of the details were covered and we booked.
As with Deb, Dee was fantastic in responding to our questions via email & in person: terrific advice & responsiveness. Getting to the island: we elected for the water taxi from Belize City, while cheap ($55 round trip for 2), we'll spring for airfare next time.
Sunset Beach: you'll have access to bicycles, kayaks, grill and a great small pool. Condo a-3: comfortable, clean, neat, A/C, nice kitchen, creature free & plenty of towels. Electronics are dated. The condo is 2.5 miles south of San Pedro. We didn't rent a golf cart: not worth $60 a day with use of bikes for free. The dock & palapa are great! Only downside - no unimpeded long walks on the beach with waves crashing at your feet - a feature of the great reef. The grounds were well maintained by Chapin. If you go in July, take bug repellent - the mosquitoes could make you anemic!
Overall Review: Super-terrific value, excellent property & property owners, not for those wanting pampering with minions for every need. If you like the outdoors, want a little adventure with most amenities of home, making your own fun & relaxing - this is a great place!! Suya Tours, next door was terrific for excursions!! Carlos & staff were the best! A must: dive or snorkel & spend time in San Pedro to appreciate the charm.

Having never been to Belize/Ambergris Caye we really had no idea what to expect but we were not disappointed. We thought it was Wish You Were Here and he did not know what we meant. Once we mentioned the owner's name, Deb Bennett, then he knew where to take us! The unit we stayed in was beautiful, fully stocked with everything we needed for a long stay (even though we were only there two short days), and very clean. The white beach in front with the chaises, hammock, chairs, etc. were comfy and the wharf with the palapa was great. Thanks to Chapin's help, we enjoyed a golf cart trip around town, biking to the Tropic air terminal, and swimming in the crystal clear pool which was cleaned constantly by Chapin. We fed the igaunas bread and searched for manta rays in the ocean and blue crabs in the sand. We did not want to leave and will be back as soon as we can. One litle tip: we highly recommend flying to and from Belize City as the water taxi took nearly 2 hours but what an experience overall.

      Beautiful Belize

Two friends and I stayed at Sunset Beach Condos in B2. The condo was beautiful, and our second floor balcony faced the multi-colored Carribbean with its wonderfully cool breezes. The pool and amenities were great, as were all the guests who were staying the same week as us. We were 2.5 miles south of town, which was very nice. Not too far, but far enough from the noise. Suya tours is conveniently located right next to the condo, so excursions were a breeze. We rented a golf cart for the week, which I highly recommend. Ambergris Caye was fabulous, and the people were always very nice. If you have never been to Belize, its well worth the trip.

The Condo, the beach, the location was everything it was advertised to be and better. The pictures, as beautiful as they are, don't quite do the place justice. An absolutely gorgeous setting, and extremely comfortable, spacious, immaculate place with everything you might need.

Only thing to consider is that it is 3 miles south of San Pedro, so you'll need to rent a golf cart, use a bike (available at the condo) or take a taxi (which the grounds keeper can call for you) to get there and back. It wasn't at all a problem for us. We walked and biked mostly, and enjoyed not being right in town or in a big resort.

Deb also provided a lot of really useful hints about the island, getting around, tours, etc. ...

Sunset Beach Condo a5 was like a home away from home. It had a lovely setting right on the beach with a convenient shady pier. There were comfortable padded lounge chairs and tables and chairs in the sun and in the shade available for guests. The pool even had floating toys! Also there were free kayaks!

The two story condo provided all the comforts of home. The kitchen was completely stocked with all the appliances and dishes. The furniture was comfortable and looked nice. It was great to have two sitting areas-one upstairs and one by the kitchen. There were both air conditioning and celing fans-and of course the ocean breeze! Both stories have a balcony with chairs for just sitting and looking at the ocean.

The condo is about 2 1/2 miles from the town of San Pedro but that is no problem. The condo has free bikes and we rode into town every night for dinner! It's fun though you have to watch out for all the golf carts and speed bumps! Also it's a bumpy ride on the cobblestones.

There is a corner market just down the street and bigger markets not too far away. Suya Tours is right across the street so it makes arranging tours very easy. Be sure to check out the snorkeling!

Our booking agent arranged for a taxi to pick us up at the airport and drive us to the condo ($10). There is a caretaker on the property. He keeps the place neat and tidy and is very helpful.

Although we only stayed here for three nights we could easily imagine staying here for weeks! Months!

A convenient 15 minute flight from Belize City, Ambergris Caye's Sunset Beach is perfectly positioned just far enough from the town of San Pedro to allow an escape from the hustle and bustle, yet close enough for easy access to dining and shopping. Our condo was comfortable and spacious, and more than served our needs. We were impressed with the friendliness of both locals and vacationers.
Most importantly, Sunset Beach offered us the quiet and serenity which we so desired. And glorious sunshine one day after the next with a constant ocean breeze to temper the heat. Truly a piece of paradise.
The golf carts were an efficient and fun means of transportation. We made daily trips into San Pedro for shopping, dining, fresh produce or just to amuse ourselves. The dining was of an unexpected quality. We preferred the seaside restaurants, which are plentiful, but be sure not to overlook The Crave Restaurant on Front Street for truly amazing cuisine.

We enjoyed our week vacation in a Condo rental at Sunset Beach on ambergris Caye with breathtaking beach and ocean views, and jungle views at back entrance. This condo is located about 3 miles South of Town (San Pedro). There's little beach solicitation which was nice, great snorkeling right off the piers and some of the best local prepared food at road side stands for lunch and dinner, only a short cart ride away. We drove the cart several times all the way South to the end of the island to fish offshore with the locals; What an awesome experience. Got nice photos of eagle nest , jungle growth, ocean views, mangroves, lagoon activity, etc. This was the first time we'd stayed down South and we really enjoyed it. It was also the first time we rented a cart for the entire week and now we wouldn't go back without one. We ate like royalty but bought most prepared foods and fresh fruits from locals at their roadside stands and saved $$ lots of money (an unplanned bonus). We were satisfied with snorkeling off the piers and so didn't even go on a snorkeling boat tour as originally planned with Suya tours. The condo at Sunset Beach was very nice, had all the right stuff stocked for a comfortable stay with views to die for from our balcony. There were a couple minor disappointments like construction work noise on a couple days but it really didn't impact our enjoyable stay. We relaxed, enjoyed each other's company while taking advantage of the island amenities; we walked to the local tiny supermarket and bought fresh eggs and pancake mix to fix fresh banana-pineapple pancakes for breakfast. We had such an awesome time. You got to try it. Deb Bennett [--] responded so quickly to our condo inquiry and provided all the info we needed immediately to select our lodging and location. Thanks Deb; had it not been for her expeditious reply to our inquiry we may have gone back up North and not had the opportunity to explore the South end of the island. My husband (67) and I (50) had such a fantastic time waking up to awesome sunrise and dining on our balcony with the ocean/horizon in our view. You can't go wrong on the location. Try it! Bob & Brenda in Prescott Valley aZ; been to ambergris Caye seven times.
