THE ISLAND: AMBERGRIS CAYE; Trip Advisor Traveler's Choice 2013 - Rated #1 Island in the WORLD!

Ambergris Caye is the largest in Belize and most popular amongst tourists. Approximately 26 miles long (1 mile wide) it is divided, north and south, by a cut (small waterway) that has a toll bridge across it. Yes, you read correctly……..it’s the cutest little toll bridge you will ever see! The heart of town is known as San Pedro. The town itself and just south is busy and bustling, while to the north it is more relaxed and quiet, where palm trees are abundant....providing a truer sense of being in the tropics. The north side of "the cut" has long been viewed as a prime location because of it's more serene setting.....yet close proximity to town.

THE RESORT: GRAND CARIBE; Trip Advisor Traveler's Choice 2013 - Rated #10 Resort in CENTRAL AMERICA!

Located on the serene and more tranquil north end of Ambergris Caye, only a short 1-1/2 miles from San Pedro, the “bustling,” picture-postcard town made famous by Madonna's song "La Isla Bonita," Grand Caribe is an exclusive, resort community that offers all the modern amenities discriminating travelers expect today! Built directly on the Caribbean, Grand Caribe is quite new, with construction just completed in 2010. It consists of 74, privately owned, high-end condos, 3 swimming pools (the largest in Belize), swim-up bar and grill, 2 hot tubs, concierge and tour staff, 24-hour security, boat dock, lush landscaping and over 500 feet of powdery white-sand beach. Grand Caribe's Mediterranean architecture is impressive, and because it is perfectly situated in a U shape, each condo offers unobstructed views of the Caribbean.....making the entire community "ocean front." In only 3 short years Grand Caribe has become one of the top resorts in Central America!

    THE CONDO: CONDO C-4; Grand Caribe's #1 Rental Condo - 2012!

Our "island home" is a spacious 2 bedroom, 2 bath, 1500 square foot, one-level condo. Directly overlooking the Caribbean Sea and Barrier Reef, it offers spectacular, unobstructed views from the front and Lagoon views out the back! Only need a 1 Bedroom? Our condo can be rented as a 1 bedroom, 1 bath….we simply lock off one bed and bath, so you can enjoy the full sized spaces in the rest of the home! For your comfort, it has central air-conditioning, as well as ceiling fans in the main living area and both bedrooms. It is beautifully decorated with Belizean art throughout and all the furniture is of Belizean hardwood made by local craftsmen and artisans. The gourmet kitchen is fully furnished with high end, GE stainless steel appliances, name brand minor appliances and fine service-ware. There are 3, flat screen televisions, 2 dvd players (with small movie library) books, games, iPod docking station, luxurious bed and bath linens, hair dryers, bath robes, beach towels, beach bags, lockable safe.....in essence, you'll find the condo stocked with everything you will need for a very comfortable stay.

THE FREE STUFF: Because Free Stuff is Good!

Daily Maid Service, Laundry Service, Wireless Internet Access, Satellite Television w/Premium Channels, 24-Hour Security and One Roundtrip Transfer Between the Resort and the San Pedro Air Strip.

Left on 05/25/2013 for a stay in May 2013

      Hi Nancy and Rob,

Let me begin by saying thank you so much for allowing us into your home and sharing a piece of your life just for a little bit. We all love the condo and the amenities that came with it. We didn't feel welcomed when we arrived at the airport in Belize City and also Tropic air. It all changed once we met aby who picked us up from the airport and everyone else at Grand Caribe, it became a wonderful experience. The people are so lovely and the premises are beautiful, peaceful, and far exceeded our expectations upon arrival. We are planning another trip to Belize and we just arrived this morning that is how much we fell in love with the place and its people.
Oh by the way my husband was so happy when he saw that you and Rob had books written by Stephen King, James Patterson, and Sidney Sheldon. Those are his three favorite authors. : )

      Sincerely,
      Keila

Delightful, clean, safe, mellow Belizean spirit

Left on 04/22/2013 for a stay in April 2013

They did my laundry every day for free!! That is the most important detail for me! Honestly, this condo at The Grand Caribe was perfect for my family of four. It was clean, totally quiet, with beautiful views yet very private. Prior to my arrival, all my questions were answered within a couple of hours via email from the delightful owner. The Grand Caribe offers anything, everything you would want...or they stay out of your hair if you prefer. They would go pick up our grocery list and be back within an hour. Room service shows up in 5 minutes. The location is perfect, the perfect (short) distance from town. We rented a golf cart for the whole time and enjoyed a mix of scheduled tours and our own adventures. (P.S. Cave tubing is not all its cracked up to be - a gigantic tourist melee) The food in Belize - from the coolers and grills on the side of the road to the nicest restaurants - is amazing. The spirit of the country cannot be described. Friendly, safe, loving, so happy, peaceful. Is there a limit on how much I can write??

      Can't Say Enough

Left on 03/30/2013 for a stay in March 2013

We have rented several condos in various tropical destinations and this one was more than we had previously experienced or expected. We thought it was an excellent value for the price and the entire property was in top condition... it was like brand new. We were told that it was built about four years ago. The staff was very friendly and helpful... they treated us like we were family... I'm not kidding.

The condo itself was larger than expected, had a great floor plan, large kitchen and bath spaces and a great view of the pool area and the ocean from the balcony. We used the kitchen to prepare about half of our meals and found everything we needed as far as cookware, utensils and kitchen gadgets. Though they sell bottled water in the lobby, I drank the filtered water and used the ice from the door of the full size refrigerator and had no problems.

My wife and I are quite particular about the cleanliness of the rooms when we travel. The maids here are fantastic and this is probably the cleanest place we have ever stayed. When we were out on the balcony in the morning we could see the maids collecting blossoms from plants around the property and later in the day find these same blossoms strategically placed inside the condo. Nice touch.

My family felt like we were staying on our own private island...

Left on 09/06/2012 for a stay in August 2012

The Grand Caribe is a beautiful complex. The pools and property are well maintained (swept/mopped every morning and night.) This unit is beautiful and has all the comforts of home. The "unexpected extra" was the daily laundry service. We placed our wet swimwear and clothes in a basket inside our unit by the door and later in the afternoon our clothes were returned clean and folded...this took so much stress out or traveling to a beach location! The view from the master bedroom of the beach is impossible to beat. Can't say enough about the wonderful restaurants within walking distance. Wonderful slower pace vacation. Driving our cart into town gave us lots of laughs (the roads are an adventure of their own -since they are made of sand and do get "bumpy" after rains). The owners sent wonderful tips in advance of our stay which were very helpful and appreciated. Having the swim up bar with food and drinks was also a big plus (especially when the kids were hungry!). We will be returning.

A Great Property and awesome Owners

Left on 07/31/2012 for a stay in May 2012

I am finally getting around to writing this but I must say our stay here was great. The owners were very responsive to our questions and wrote us back very quickly when we first inquired about the property. I'll only give her first name here, but Nancy was very sweet and made the whole rental experience very easy. The actual property is very well maintained and there were plasma TVs in all of the rooms. They had a good selection of TV channels as well which helped out when we had a monsoon rain shower which cancelled our diving on one particular day. When it was sunny we enjoyed the pool which is one of the largest in Belize and we especially enjoyed the swim up bar. The bar makes the food for room service and it was really very tasty. There are also lots of great restaurants walking distance and we had a good time exploring them. We especially liked the aji spanish tapas bar, Elvi's, and Palapa Bar. One important note in that restaurants and bars close early there...often before 10:30-11:00pm. It should also be pointed out that it is a bit of a bumpy ride to get to the hotel and I would recommend taking a water taxi if possible. (If the timing works out) They do pay for the taxi so that was another nicety and they also rent golf carts to get around. The front desk was very helpful in helping us book our scuba diving and the place is just removed enough from the hustle and bustle of the city but close enough to take $5 water taxi back to civilization. Overall this place was great and I would even recommend it for families with kids or friends who want to get away together.

      Simply amazing

Left on 07/09/2012 for a stay in July 2012

Can't think of enough good things to say about the Grand Caribe and the condo itself. Nancy was so helpful returning our emails and answering all of our questions promptly and with great detail before we even left that we felt confident this would be a wonderful holiday. This unit was indeed gorgeous and set up with everything we could want. We originally booked it for my husband, myself and our 20 month old son (coming from Texas), but we decided to invite my brother and sister in-law to stay with us (who came from Calgary, AB) and we still had tons of room! The views from the balcony and the master bedroom of the pools and ocean are truly amazing. One thing worth noting is there are no blinds in the unit, only white curtains, so once the sun is up it is hard to sleep in and can make naptimes tricky. The staff at Grand Caribe were incredibly helpful - even arranging us massages on their dock at the very last minute, which was heavenly. And the babysitting service! The lady we had - Gina - was lovely and we trusted her completely with our son, added a whole new level of relaxation to our holiday. We ate less in the room than we anticipated, partly because there was less selection in the grocery stores than we imagined (which is a little silly on our part considering this is an island!) but mostly because there was such an vast selection of restaurants to choose from in the area with delicious food! We mostly went in to San Pedro to eat but also enjoyed meals at Capricorn and Palapa's on the north side of the toll as well as Cowboy Doug's poolside at the Grand Caribe. We enjoyed many mornings with breakfast by the pool. I do think it is also worth mentioning that the toll to get into San Pedro is $5 us roundtrip. Not a huge expense, but worth noting in case you're planning to come and go several times throughout the day (we went in at least once a day). We would also highly recommend a golf cart rental as while it is a little under a 10 minute drive from the bridge to the Grand Caribe, it is on quite a bumpy terrain, and to get further into town you would be walking or biking for quite some time. For our snorkel and scuba adventures we used amigos del Mar, and they were great. Very professional and fun, would highly recommend them. Hol Chan and Shark Ray alley were incredible. We all loved loved loved our vacation and area definitely planning to return one day!!

Best Place to stay on ambergris Caye

Left on 04/10/2012 for a stay in February 2012

Condo Unit C-4 at Grand Caribe just may be the best place to stay when you visit San Pedro on ambergris Caye, Belize. Sit on your 2nd floor deck with your morning cup of coffee and look out over the three swimming pool, about 15 yards outside your unit, past the pools to the ocean, about 40 yards, and the 2nd largest barrier reef in the world, about 1/2 mile off the shore line. The privately-owned condo is first-class and fully furnished, right down to a large collection of books and Dvds. All you need to add is some Belekin and food of your choice to the frig. House cleaning and free laundry service is provided daily. You're living large. Grand Caribe is about 10-15 minutes from downtown San Pedro by golf cart. Or, it is an easy walk along the shore, or a 5 minute water taxi ride. Excellent restaurants are no more than a five minute walk from the condo. Or you can just swim, or walk, up to Cowboy Doug's bar, poolside, where Tua and the rest of the staff will serve you excellent food and drinks. All the staff at Grand Caribe is friendly and willing to help meet your needs. The condo owners also sent us multiple e-mails with helpful information to make sure our stay was the best that it could be. And, it was.

Definitely reco a golf cart to get around...but great restaurants within walking distance too...Aji, Capricorn, Palapa. Had wonderful massages on the beach at Las Terrazas. Snorkeling at Hol Chan and Shark Ray alley was unbelievable (booked right through Grand Caribe, guides were amazing). We rented a car one day and made our own tour to Xanatunich ruins & Belize Zoo (less expensive then the tours). Other restaurants we loved were Elvi's Kitchen, Caramba's, Sunset, and Blue Water for Sushi. And don't miss Ice Cream at DandE's!! Our stay at The Grand Caribe was wonderful! The condo was beautiful and to be able to look out at the ocean was great. There are fun places to go for drinks and dinner just a short walk down the beach. And Cowboy Doug's was a blast! Tua and Chi make a good drink. The concierge service was so helpful when we wanted to take an excursion. All in all it was a superb experience. We would highly recommend it.

      Amazing week in paradise!!

Left on 12/06/2011 for a stay in June 2011

I booked this when I was looking for a great fun-in-the-sun getaway for my 40th birthday. My boyfriend is a seasoned diver/marine scientist and I was getting scuba certified, so great diving for both novices and pros was a must. The amazing staff was ready to help with our every need. The concierge not only helped my boyfriend find a great waterfront dining spot for my birthday dinner but also arranged to have a birthday cake and balloons delivered! The food at the on-site restaurant was good and remarkably inexpensive.

The facilities were incredible, from the well-appointed unit (much nicer than any place I've ever stayed), incredibly comfortable bed, beautiful balcony overlooking the pool and Caribbean (did I mention that that pool is the largest in Belize?)...it was all out of a dream. I was worried that the place would be overrun with guests but often we were just one of a handful of people by the pool, or alone (there's so much to do on ambergris that we didn't spend a lot of time lounging by the pool, and I guess that's true of most people! But after a dive it was a great spot to unwind). We also appreciated the location. It was about a 15 minute bike ride into town along a dirty road or beach path, which was the perfect distance to remove ourselves from the hubbub downtown (not that downtown San Pedro is bustling by far--it's a lovely little town!). At night we'd sit by the water's edge, look at the stars, see the lights of San Pedro in the distance and be glad that we were away from the loud discos in San Pedro. Grand Caribe was nice, quiet, and peaceful. By day we'd cycling into town for a dive and hit some of the great dining spots in town for lunch (Waraguma!!! Oh their shrimp tacos...! Best conch fritters in the world at El Fogon!!), by night we'd have light appetizers at one of the many great dining spots within a stone's throw of the Grand Caribe.

Thank you for an amazing, memorable 40th birthday week! We'll definitely be back!!!

Left on 12/06/2011 for a stay in October 2011

My husband and I stayed at this gorgeous condo for our honeymoon in October 2011. The pictures of the condo were amazing but could not compare to how stunning this condo was in person. The condo is spacious, immaculate, modern and very romantic. The views are spectacular and the pool was lovely. The people of Belize are so kind and fun loving. The front desk and pool bar employees went above and beyond to help us navigate our way around and book wonderful tours. The owners made us feel so welcome in their home and sent us a book with all the information regarding the condo and also suggestions for everything from restaurants and grocery stores to tours and activities. We would personally recommend amigos Del Mar for any snorkeling and diving tours. We also loved the atmosphere of the Palapa Bar and Grill and suggest having a romantic dinner at Capricorn for couples. We had a wonderful week full of memories and would not hesitate to return to Belize and this luxurious condo.

      Un-Belize-able vacation!

Left on 12/06/2011 for a stay in February 2011

This place is amazing - the perfect blend of luxury amenities and laid-back island culture. The condo is beautifully furnished, clean, comfortable, and full of natural light. The kitchen has everything you need to cook a meal, and the balcony is the perfect place to enjoy it. We spent many mornings lounging at the lovely pool (& and swim-up bar). The Grand Caribe staff were super-friendly and willing to help out with anything from setting up a scuba expedition to arranging a trip to Tikal in Guatemala. The location of the property is great - it's quiet, yet you can walk a short distance to restaurants including some of the best BBQ we've ever had, a cool health food lunch spot/beachside bar, and even a romantic upscale restaurant. Downtown is a bike ride away or you can take a water taxi for a few bucks. Our favorite food downtown were the pupusas & lobster burritos as big as your head (you can't miss the ladies making pupusas in front of the shop)! We can't wait to come back for another relaxing & adventurous stay!
