La Platriere Cottage is situated in the Auvergne region of France in the Allier. Situated within 3 acres of gardens belonging to the main house at La Platriere, the cottage offers a high standard of accommodation, for people seeking quiet and peaceful holidays. With a private parking space and private enclosed garden, the cottage sleeps up to 6 people. Guests are welcome to use the shared pool and the larger gardens at La Platriere. The cottage meets with the EU fire safety regulations, and for those cooler months, benefits from central heating throughout.

La Platriere is situated on top of a hill, therefore offering stunning views of... the surrounding villages and countryside.

The Cottage has 2 bedrooms upstairs, (one with double bed, the other with 2 single beds). Both bedrooms have exposed beams, and dormer windows which look out across the gardens to the countryside beyond. A beautiful open tread oak staircase leads the way downstairs to the first of 2 sitting rooms. This room has a good quality double bed-settee thereby can easily be converted to make a 3rd bedroom if necessary.

The 2nd sitting room is designed with your entertainment in mind and offers TV, video, music centre, plus a selection of videos, games and books.

The bathroom and separate toilet are also downstairs. The bathroom has a small french bath, a shower, vanity unit and washbasin.

Additional Location Information

La Platriere is situated in the Allier department in the region of Auvergne. It is close to the borders of Cher (Centre) and Nievre (Bourgougne). The cottage is just off the D64, 4 kilometres from the small town of Lurcy Levis and 5 kms from the village of Valigny.

Close to the Troncais Forest, La Platriere is ideal for walking. Also close by are several large lakes some of which have beaches for swimming and sunbathing. There are opportunities to go sailing, and hire boats, pedaloes, canoes and kayaks. The fishing in the area is excellent. Horseriding is nearby with possibility of trekking in the forest.

The area is called Bourbonnais, which means it is the land of the Bourbon dukes and kings of France. Medieval villages and towns are everywhere, the whole area being of great historic interest. With its history of being involved in the royal courts, there are no shortages of chateaux and castle fortresses, many of which are open to the public. Throughout the summer months you can visit medieval fairs and festivals, where you will experience times gone by, medieval music, dance and entertainment, food and other produce.

The area is also well-known for its folklore music. Every year at Lurcy-Levis there is an international folklore festival, where participants from several countries as well as other regions in France gather and perform their music and dance. All in traditional costume, this is an event that attracts many people. Further afield at Gannat is a larger folklore festival, which lasts for 10 days, again with at least 11 international groups of dancers and musicians, with opportunities for you to experience their culture and food, and buy their products.

The area produces excellent wine and cheeses. Within 12 kilometres of La Platriere you can visit a small vineyard which has its roots from the 12 century. With Sancerre and Pouilly sur Loire only an hours drive away, you can taste some of the best wines of France.

Deposit required on booking of 100 euros for 1 week, 200 euros for 2 weeks. Balance to be paid 8 weeks prior to commencement of holiday. Damage waiver deposit of 150 euros required on arrival, returned minus any breakages or damage on date of departure. Cleaning charge required of 40 euros payable on arrival. Tourist tax applies from 1st May to 30 September, and is 0,55 euros per adult per night. In the winter months fuel charge of 30 euros per week required.
