Lakes Cottage Holiday
Cute and cosy cottage

We have recently returned from a six night break at Westgate Cottage and really enjoyed ourselves. It's a bit far out for driving to the Lakes each day which we hadn't appreciated but it was a lovely base to return to each evening. The cottage had pretty much everything we needed, even tupperware for pack ups. Only a couple of issues-the freezer bit in the fridge didn't work but more importantly for us, the advertised enclosed garden was not "enclosed" and as dog owners this was disappointing. We solved it by purchasing a ground anchor and wire but obviously not ideal.
Overall though, a beautiful, well equipped cottage in a lovely village and a great local pub/restaurant. Read more

we spent a lovely week at Westgate Cottage, it was ideal for us two and our two dogs. We liked the quirkyness of the place, the dogs were temporarily confused because of the kitchen and living room are upstairs, we thought it was great. well eqipped, there wasn't anything extra we needed and the information folder was really useful.
The cottage was light and airy, the bed, quilt and pillows were all so nice and comfortable, the washing machine was good and dried better than my one at home(less creases)
we would love to go again, perhaps next year

We were so pleased with our stay at Westgate cottage, The cottage was really nice, Well kept and above all so clean, everything you needed was at hand even down to a sewing kit and a car pass for parking in the local town, I would recommend this to anyone...Alex
My partner and my dog all went to stay at this wonderful cottage end of may 2013.
It was immaculate inside and out with everything you could possibly need, i would highly recommend this cottage and we will be returning. The location was just right to travel to all areas of interest and their was a dog friendly pub at the end of the lane with decent food for when you had been out all day.
Beautiful cottage with all of the amenities you could ask for.
Good location to be central for going out and about, made to feel extremely welcome, good location for walks with our dog.
Will be back soon.
Westgate Cottage - tasteful decor & spotlessly clean provided in

We were very comfortable in this tastefully furnished, warm, immaculately clean and well equiped small but airy cottage.
The friendly owners are nearby if their advice is called for.
We enjoyed a number of walks 'straight from the door' in this beautiful location.
With delight we regularly watched a red squirrel feeding alongside a multitude of wild birds.
We would definitely recommend this cottage to nature lovers or anyone needing a relaxing break from 'the rat race'.

The cottage was very clean, comfortable and characterful. Great amenities including brilliant shower and comfy bed. Helpful owners live next door but very discreet. Cottage situated in quaint courtyard within quiet hamlet, with gorgeous views of the Pennines, and a welcoming pub on the doorstep serving good food. Good walks from the door. Well situated for touring Cumbria and the Lakes. Also recommend Ruby's cafe bistro in appleby, food is wonderful, not just your average cafe-fare. Likewise organic tearoom and shop at Little Salkeld Watermill. Haven't stayed in this area before, really enjoyed our stay, would happily return to Westgate to explore further.

We stayed at westgate cottage for our honeymoon and from the moment we got there we loved it, the cottage was clean and tidy and very homely. There were lots of lovely walks we went on from the cottage and we would definately go back again, Our two black labs also enjoyed there stay too.

This is a really nice cottage, one of the best we've stayed in. It has excellent modern facilities and is in a lovely quiet village. This is an excellent place to stay if you want to explore the north of England, not just the Lake District. You do need a car to get here, and also to visit anywhere outside the village.
The Sandford arms is a couple of minutes walk away and does good food, plus there are amenities in nearby appleby in Westmorland, and walks right on the doorstep.

Lovely cottage in nice surroundings. Enclosed garden for dogs to run about in. House equipped with everything you may need. Local pub in village.
Owners are a very nice couple who were very obliging.
However, need to travel into appleby or Brough 4 miles away, for any supplies.

A lovely little cottage. Very clean with all the mod cons. Not too far from the Dales. The lakes were a bit further away but the local country side was very nice. Good pub within walking distance. We had our 7 month old daughter with us and we did have to take a stair gate for the top of the stairs but other than this the cottage was suitable for a baby sharing the bedroom. Shame that the castle at appleby has been closed since 2004.
