Minneapolis, MinnesotaDirty and needs updating, indifferent customer service
Left on 12/22/2012 for a stay in December 2012
I rented this condo for three weeks. I have never been more disappointed by a property on Sanibel. We arrived to find the association had approved major work on the resurfacing of the parking lot (during season!). The installation of pavers forced us to walk a block to bring our belongings to the unit. The owner/rental agency did not have the courtesy to inform us of this major construction. This to me was a major breach of contract. I should have right then and there asked for our money back; I foolishly did not. During our 3 week stay it was so noisy I had to leave the apartment twice in order to get some peace and quiet. It was so dusty you couldn't open the windows -not that you would be able to stand the noise if you did. (The owner next door was also doing a major renovation of his unit which was against the association rules - nothing was done about this either-no surprise there). When we first entered the unit we immediately noticed the filthy, matted carpet. There was a black trail of dirt from the door to the front bedroom. The bottom of my feet actually were black from the dirt after walking on the carpet! The unit was overall dirty and dingy. The washing machine lid is rusted; rust falls in your clothes when you first use it. It is in major need of a complete demolition and remodel. There are chips in the bathtub. There was a pile of rusted broken beach furniture piled on the lanai. The living room furniture was stained and dirty. I emailed the owner and demanded that these issues be taken care of. Tom from the agency tried to make some things right. The next day Tom brought the housekeeping supervisor to the unit. Turns out she was already aware of the condition of this unit ("they had a party with a hundred kids here") and considered moving us but thought we had a previous rental arrangment with the owner (we did not). She didn't do anything about this mess until I complained. The unit has mold coming out from around the a/C vent. The counters are cut up and scratched. The twin mattress has broken down and tilts. The lania furniture is rusted and the chair backs are loose. Two replacement chairs were brought in after we had been in the unit for two of the three weeks we were there. The carpets were cleaned after we complained but the carpet really needs to be replaced. We paid $3500.00 to rent this unit. I asked the owner to credit what I considered a reasonable $500.00 back to us but they ignored that request. The condition of this unit along with the state of this complex ruined our vacation. I have been coming to Sanibel for over 12 years and have never had such an unpleasant experience with a vacation rental. I did not get good value for my money spent. I had to spend too much time trying to get people to do their jobs that should have been done before I got to this unit. I am still waiting for the owner to issue my refund. There are plenty of other units on Sanibel where the owner cares about making things right and the rental agency actually does their job; this is not one of them. We left three days early because we were tired of the construction noise coming from next door. I will never rent from this owner or agency again; she said she wasn't the owner but has a link on Vrbo to her other properties which include this one. I have posted a few photos of the state of this condo.
Response from Sanibel and Captiva Accommodations - 01/21/2013

Manager
We are sorry that you did not have a pleasurable stay here with us on Sanibel! During September – December is when most condo associations allow for construction and renovations to be done, as our season here on Sanibel runs from Feb 1st – April 14th.
During the month of November, when you stayed with us Loggerhead Cay did make arrangement to put paver stones down in their parking lot, which is now a beautiful update to the complex. Unfortunately at the time very little notice was given to anyone, including the property managers as it was a last minute decision made by the association at Loggerhead Cay. We did try to reach out to our guests, however the day we found out was the same day as your arrival, I am sorry we could not communicate this inconvenience sooner! The work did create a significant amount of dust as they were working on sand and dirt to lay paving stones. The complex had arranged golf cart transportation from the far side of the complex so that no one would need to walk too far to their vehicles or condos. There were also signs posted thought the complex with a phone number you could call to reach security if you couldn’t find one of the golf carts.
When you first reached out about this condo and were quoted a rate you went through VRBO and subsequently made arrangements directly through the owners agent for the rental of this condo. You were then directed to us for payment and check-in purposes. Since the initial inquiry and arrangement was made directly to the owner we were unable to move you to other accommodations.
It was also the owner who declined to reimburse you for the $500.00 you were asking as the condo was not sold to you as “updated” or misrepresented in anyway at the time you booked. We do agree that the carpet needed to be replaced, and the owner has intentions to do so in the near future.
We feel that as a company we did everything within our power to try to satisfy this guest and meet their demands; Including multiple service calls and re-cleaning of the entire condo however nothing short of $500 cash was going to satisfy this guest. Loggerhead Cay 113 is a premier corner 3rd floor condo that has been in the owner’s family for over 20 years. This being the very first negative comments in those years the owner would like to assure everyone all issues will be addressed sincerely.

As a child my family took a vacation every summer to Sanibel Island. To me this is not only a vacation spot, but also a memorable place. Although it has been many years since I have visited S.I., to me nothing has changed. At check-in the people were still extremely courteous, "Sanibel Accommodations" still came equipped with everything imaginable to make the stay fill like home, and the ocean view still presents the most beauty this side of the states. To sum of the week long stay cannot be written in words. I WILL BE BACK!!!

The vacation at Sanibel Island was one of the most enjoyable family vacations we've ever had. The biking trails, the sea shells, and a very nice condo all added up to a great family vacation.

The condo had a fabulous view of the gulf, and was located steps from the beach. It was well equipped and comfortable. However we had a major problem after a heavy rain and the condo became bug infested. We called the realtor who is supposed to have 24 hr. service and did not receive a reply from them until very late and they were unable to send anyone out to fix the problem. The following day, the staff at Loggerhead Cay were excellent but we were already finished sweeping bugs up for 3 hours the previous night. I understand it was mother nature however 24 hr service means 24 hrs. I didn't appreciate cleaning this mess up on my vacation!!!

Couln't have been better! We just spent a week in Unit 113 of Loggerhead Cay. This condo has the pefect location at Loggerhead Cay. Great views from the Master and all public areas of the condo. The condo was very comfortable and well equiped. The beach, pool and all grounds were beautiful and well manicured. Fall asleep to the sounds of the ocean and wake to the sun rise. I would recommend this condo to family and friends. Can't wait to come back next year.
Thank you. -

This was our second year staying at this Loggerhead Cay condo. The view can't be beat and was the main reason we chose to stay here again. Not to mention the 3 minute walk to the beach! We have 2 small kids and at first I worried about being on the 3rd floor. It wasn't a problem at all, primarily because the beach is so close that going down three flights of stairs is a small part of an already short trip. Being up higher also makes it more peaceful. The accommodations were fine. We had all the amenities we needed in the condo. Although we do wish they had a cd player - we ended up playing our cds through the television. The Loggerhead pool is nice though we didn't use it very much because we prefer the beach. I would recommend this condo to anyone.

GREAT VIEW
Left on 07/29/2008 for a stay in July 2008
This was our 5th trip to Sanibel and our 4th stay at Loggerhead Cay. We have rented unit 113 three times and we love the unit. It is comfortable, clean, spacious and with a beautiful view. I love the huge palm tree in front of the beach side lanai. We will probably try to book the same unit next year. The unit could use new patio furniture (resin) on the small balcony off of the Dining Room. The existing table and chairs are quite old and has peeling paint etc.
The only negative comment I have is that there was major construction going on in the unit above which was very annoying when we were in the Condo. Hopefully by next year the construction will be complete and we can have the quiet time Sanibel is known for. Please feel free to contact me if there are any questions on my comments. Sincerely, Gale Strassberg galebstrassberg@aol.com

Left on 07/18/2008 for a stay in July 2008
The week I stayed at this condo went by too quickly. The accommodations made me feel right at home only it was set in paradise. The view was breathtaking and hearing the waves while falling asleep was very soothing. The grounds are kept in tip top shape and the staff is very professional. I highly recommend a stay on this property if you have the means.

Unbeatable gulf view
Left on 06/10/2008 for a stay in April 2008
We had a great, relaxing week on Sanibel. We had stayed at Loggerhead Cay before and picked this unit for its direct gulf view which certainly didn't disappoint. The unit was neat and clean, though the funishings are a little Florida-tacky and the bathrooms need to be renovated soon. This unit lacked a few of the nice throw-ins we had in a previous rental in this complex - a beach umbrella and wireless Internet - which really should be added. All in all, a really good experience and this unit could be spectacular with a little extra effort.
