The Davis Family
Riverside, CABeautifully appointed home with fabulous location!
Left on 01/17/2013 for a stay in August 2012
The Historic Downtown retreat was just what our family needed for our son's Santa Barbara wedding weekend. Reserving, checking in, and checking out went flawlessly with Paradise Retreat's user friendly system. The house is spacious; we had room for our other children, spouses, and Gramma too! Beds were comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed to prep meals and snacks for all. The media room came in handy for a "hang-out" watching sports while others played board games at the dining room table. The location was perfect with easy access to downtown attractions but also a nice neighborhood to launch a walk or run (some walked to the mission, some ran to the beach)! Sadly we received an e-mail the week before that the spa was not operational. We wondered how prevelant that problem is and we will question that ahead of time on future rentals.

Left on 01/17/2013 for a stay in July 2012
We had a wonderful time in Santa Barbara. We attended a family wedding and all of our grown children, spouses and one grandson were able to come. The owners provided a pack and play which was a huge help to our son and daughter-in-law. This location was within walking distance of a park and a small grocery store which was very convenient. I would highly recommend the home to others who are looking for a quiet neighborhood. The house had 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms with an area upstairs to sleep 2 more. We had 7 adults total with one child. The deck off the upstairs bedroom was a gathering place for reading and morning coffee. The only reason that I am giving it 4 stars and not 5 was that we were unable to use the hot tub. Other than that, everything was as promised.

Nice, very functional house with plenty of space for 6 adults and 3 to 4 children. Kitchen & dining area served us well during our stay. Near the main downtown attractions and 5 minutes to the beaches. Best aspect of the house for us was a second floor outdoor porch that was our relaxation/getaway space.

Alameda, CaliforniaWedding Week!!
Left on 01/08/2013 for a stay in September 2012
Our family stayed at the Historic Downtown Retreat for the week before our daughter's wedding. We loved the location, size and comfort of the home and it met our needs very well for the week! We enjoyed walking to nearby restaurants and at the same time loved the peace and quiet that the property offered us. We also had family that stayed in the Historic Cottage in the front of the property and the two houses worked beautifully for our extended group during the week! We would definitely consider staying there again as we fell in love with Santa Barbara and anticipate returning again soon!

Left on 01/08/2013 for a stay in November 2012
We have 4 brothers and their familes. Finding vacation lodging is always a challenge as there is an age range of 12 - 70. By renting both the Retreat and Cottage it provided the perfect space allowing all to gather, or have some privacy. Due to the close proximity to downtown walking was easy. Very comfortable, many pluses.
One slight drawback - we are all cooks, the kitchen supplies were minimal and pls sharpen those knives. -

I arrived after an 8 hour drive, and saw sacks of garbage on the kitchen floor. Not a big deal. I wanted to lie down and rest in the master bedroom upstairs, but the bed was unmade and obviously not cleaned. I called the emergency number, and the cleaners came right over. However, I had to wait almost an hour for the house to be cleaned. Everything was nice, however, and I liked the house. The Media Room's TV was much too complicated and I couldn't figure out how to work the controls even with the directions. I ended up watching TV in one of the downstair's bedrooms. Once again, I called to get help with the TV, but after he left, I still couldn't get it to work--multiple remotes. Very frustrating.

We were in Santa Barbara for the first time for our son's wedding. This house was just what we were looking for. It was spacious, very clean, comfortable, and we were able to relax there and enjoy our stay. We particularly liked having our morning coffee on the upstairs deck off the master bedroom.

Left on 05/10/2011 for a stay in March 2011
We rented this beautiful home for a long weekend to be close to the Santa Barbara's Women's Club were my niece was getting married. We were pleasantly surprised at how large and comfortable every room was and that there were 3 bathrooms was a huge plus for us. Our families were able to spend the last few days together before the wedding here and will always have good memories. We would like to go back and stay again soon. The only downside to this home is the lack of parking.

Don't want to be harsh as we did enjoy our stay very much. Simply did not measure up to our previous experience at Historic Downtwon Cottage which was much more to our liking. Found the kitchen hard to use and didn't feel that had been as well maintained as it could have been. Kitchen supplies such as pots, pans and silverware were sparse. Flashlights although plentiful were without batteries upon arrival and we did have a power failure. Robert took good care of us so no complaints there. Found it difficult for us to walk up and down the stairs and would love to have had a TV in living room area. Too big for us and therefore would prefer the smaller cottage which is what we have rented for 2012.

Long Beach, CAFantastic Relaxing House
Left on 11/19/2010 for a stay in September 2010
We rented this wonderful house for the weekend of a charity walk that the women were participaing in. Our fellas had a great place to hang out and play video games on the big screen tv, while the gals were trudging through town. It was awesome to come back after walking all day and have a hot shower, big couches to kick-back on and a soft bed to climb into at night.

It was a great pleasure to stay here
It was very well cleaned, we can walk to State Street.
The beds are very good, it is a quiet place.
After two weeks travelling, we had agood place to relax.
For the girls, there was the shopping, for the men there was the movieroom and upstairs we sit every evening with the whole family outside, sometimes we used the tub.
The movieroom was great, also the movies which were in the house. The book about Santa Barbara gives us a lot of information. We hope we can come back!! -

Overall I would give this home a so-so rating. I was disappointed in the location. The neighborhood appeared a bit run down. It should be noted that there is another home on the property. We were not aware of that when we rented it. I also was disappointed in the backyard. It was not a practical area to entertain or dine.

The location was great -- nice, quiet neighborhood yet so close to State Street. We did alot of walking. The beds and bedding were very comfortable. The furnishings and decor were nice. We enjoyed the theatre room as well. We were there for our son's college graduation and the house served as a great meeting place for friends and family.

The location was great and the house was very nicely decorated. We will definitely use Paradise Retreats again. Oh, one little funny thing...we couldnt find a wine opener, wine glasses yes, but no wine opener. Again beautiful home!

We absolutely loved our time in the Historic Downtown Retreat. My husband and I stayed here with my parents and also his parents for the holidays, and this was such a perfect house for us... beautifully decorated, plenty of space for everyone to be comfortable, great furnishings, and a location easily suited for a quick walk up to State Street. The living room is a wonderful space for large family hang-outs, and three people coule easily sleep in the upstairs media room alone. Great spaces for family time.
The beds and linens were fabulous, and fight to get the upstairs Master bedroom! The balcony off of it is a perfect spot to drink your coffee in the morning and a glass of wine at night. The entire group ended up spending quite a lot of time up there.
The kitchen is well-stocked, and we easily managed to cook a few huge meals for the entire group. The little market just down the street from the house is great for last-minute needs.
Perfect SB rental home... Highly recommended! -

We spent part of Spring Break with our family at the Historic Downtown Retreat. The house is beautiful, with well appointed rooms and comfortable beds and furniture. The kids had a great time at a city park just blocks away and also enjoyed watching movies on the big screen TV in the upstairs media room.
Although the house is not on the beach, it is a short drive away and the downtown area of Santa Barbara is within walking distance.
We all enjoyed the deck off the Master Bedroom..especially in the evenings and early mornings. The jacuzzi in the back was also really relaxing.
We had a great time and hope to return in the near future! -

This house was perfect for a wine-tasting getaway with the girls! Cute hot tub and deck, along with a lot of comfy places to sleep.
One thing to note, however, is that it is not exactly in the posh hills of Santa Barbara, and it is also one of two properties on the same lot.Response from Paradise Retreats-World Class Vacation Rentals - 10/14/2009

We appreciate this guest's honest review of Historic Downtown Retreat.
For the guest's information, there are no properties in the Downtown area which are in the "posh hills" of Santa Barbara. Most of the exclusive hillside properties are located on the Riviera, or in Montecito.
The property is part of a split-lot, however the owners also own the other home on the lot. It is also a luxury vacation rental for 2-4 guests called Historic Downtown Cottage. The owners have done a fantastic job of creating two entirely separate spaces on this single downtown lot.
Sincerely,
Paradise Retreats
