Description from the owner
La Casa Colibri 'The Hummingbird House' was designed to take in the lake views from every room in the house, cascading down the mountainside with huge amounts of glass framing in the panoramic views of Lake Atitlan and surrounding, perfectly cone-shaped volcanoes.
At approximately 5200 feet above sea level, the Lake Atitlan area enjoys year-round spring-like weather (70s to low 80s during the day and 60s at night). Although temperatures remain relatively constant throughout the year the weather is marked by two distinctive seasons: the rainy season (May to October) and the dry season (November to April). Lansing, MIBetter the Second Time
Left on 03/17/2013 for a stay in March 2013
This was our second stay at Casa la Colibri. This year was even better than last. The owner arranged several visits to local villages and took us on a hike above the property. The staff at the house are some of the most helpful people we have ever met on our travels. Breakfasts and dinners were outstanding. People ask why we went back to Guatemala...because of this great place on Lago atitlan.

The owner was waiting for us upon arrival. He had sent a private transport to pick us up at the airport, so although we had never been to Guatemala, we didn't have to worry about anything. Throughout our trip, the staff arranged everything we could have wanted, including transportation by truck, tuk-tuk, and boat. The staff couldn't have been any more helpful and accommodating. The pictures don't do this house justice! The weather was perfect, the house was perfect, the views were more than perfect. We were greeted every day with a bell calling us to a wonderful breakfast. Each day, we would try to guess what kind of fresh squeezed juice were in the pitchers. After days of exploring, we would come home to freshly laundered clothing, a clean house, and unbelievable dinners, which were picture perfect. We could then, just sit back and enjoy the never-to-be-forgotten sunsets. We've stayed at other vacation rentals, but I'm afraid this has spoiled us, I don't know if we will even again reach this level of perfection.

This house is stunning. And the service outstanding. We has our meals cooked, at ver reasonable rate, and the meals were better than any good restaurant in the Northeast. Pictures this time actually do not show the incredible attention to detail, and service. Would definetly stay here again but next time for longer.

What a beautiful home to stay... We loved it!! We were a family of 12, we had unforgettable memories as a family. We will be back next time we travel to Guatemala for sure.
Angela y Lucas were amazing helping us with everything we needed, the food exceptional! David was great too!! From day one he helped us with directions how to get there, met with us to follow him to the house and always alert of anything we needed. Thank you for your great service and make our stay so easy and smooth -

Arizona, USABeautiful home with amazing views; great for larger groups
Left on 07/08/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We just stayed at Casa Colibri with a group of 10 people, and had a fantastic time. I would **highly** recommend hiring angela to prepare meals at the house; the food was absolutely delicious and restaurant-quality, and it was very convenient to have meals there. My family is all wishing we could have brought angela home with us. Lucas was also wonderful and very attentive to our needs, and David (the owner of the house) went the extra mile to arrange for a birthday cake, decorations, and a pinata for my daughter's 16th birthday which fell on the last day of our trip. She was very excited to have a real Guatemalan fiesta!
The attention David paid to arranging for my daughter's fiesta was typical of my entire experience arranging for our trip with him. He was great to communicate with before our arrival, and he made several phone calls on our behalf to take care of our activities and driving arrangements while we were there. He is an excellent host, and I truly appreciated his assistance as we had various needs arise.
The only negative thing I might mention was that was that the electricity in the whole area was out for a portion of our stay so we had to utilize candles for lighting (as did all of the houses/hotels around us). Fortunately, the water was heated by natural gas, so we were able to shower without issues.
Some of the activities we would recommend were the cooking class, the spearfishing trip, and the ziplining which was a don't-miss activity. The house's location was convenient for coming and going from Pana for shopping, activities, etc.
We look forward to returning to Guatemala and our next stay at Casa Colibri. It's an amazing house, and we'd definitely recommend staying there. -

What an amazing place. This villa overlooks the lake and volcanoes and every moment presents another breath-taking view. We spent 2 weeks here and loved every minute. There is so much to do or you can just relax by the pool or check your email over a good wireless connection. The food was outstanding. Angela the cook is the best. Fresh juice, fruit, bread and great main dishes. We will return, often.

Dallas, TexasI will be back!!
Left on 03/31/2011 for a stay in February 2011
I fell in love with La Casa Colibri and I am already planning my next trip back. David the manager was on call 24-7 to answer any questions, recommend excursions, set up transportation and make sure all our needs were met. Angela the cook made you want to stay at the house and eat every meal there. The maid folded my dirty clothes if I left them out. I wanted to try everything there was to offer. The sauna, pool, ping-pong, the sunken bathtub in the master, hammocks, outdoor fireplace and of course the breathtaking views. Casa Colibri makes me feel like Royalty!!

Centennial, ColoradoA magical vacation
Left on 03/29/2011 for a stay in March 2011
We have travelled extensively and this was certainly the best stay we have ever experienced. From the excellent host, David, to the superb cook, Angela, we discovered a wealth of hospitality. The villa, with its luxury accomodations, exceeded every expectation. Waking up to the view across Lake atitlan and seeing the volcanoes will always be among our fondest memories. There are many species of birds that visit the property (with literally hundreds more in the bird sanctuary located near the lake). We fell in love with the local people, descended from the Mayans. This was our first visit to Guatemala and we can't wait to get back. We will return to La Casa Colibri in January, 2012 to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary.

Amazing panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains from every room in the house; even the shower! The rooftop deck and hammocks were an ideal place to sip local coffee and plan your trip for the day, or to watch the sunset and unwind from the day's adventures.

I cannot say enough about our experience in this rental on Lake atitlan. It is by far the best location on the lake with gorgeous sunsets, amazing accommodations and an extremely knowledgeable owner that goes above and beyond to make your stay memorable and EZ. I would go back in a minute with friends or family.
