Description from the owner
This house is located in Las Catalinas, a new walkable beach town on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast. The home’s owner is leading the development of Las Catalinas, so this is basically the mayor’s house. The house has six bedrooms including two masters, a bunk room, and a guest house. There is ample outdoor living space in two covered loggias, a private courtyard garden and pool, an office/library, and the coolest dining room you have ever seen complete the package. It is perfect for a large family, or for two families to share, or for a group of friends.
Outside the door you will find yourself beachside in Las Catalinas in a beautiful...Read more

Madison, WIAn amazing and unique combination of comfort, relaxation, and sc
Left on 07/10/2012 for a stay in May 2012
We enjoyed an all-too brief stay at Las Catalinas on the tail end of a visit to the rain-forest. Next time we will stay longer.
We were warmly welcomed upon arrival and shown around. The founder's home was spacious, clean, and airy, as well as super kid-friendly with colorful bunks in the kids' room and games to play. The wonderful design of the property offers privacy, yet merges indoors and outdoors so cleverly that you can't exactly tell which is which. We had the option of deciding exactly how much effort to put into our vacation - we chose "not much" - but had we wanted, we could have used the state-of-the-art kitchen to rustle up a gourmet meal, or grilled out in the courtyard; instead we ordered food in from Lola's, the restaurant just up the street, while relaxing. We had great swimming options too - the ocean at a stone's throw from the front door (which we discovered has cool magnetic sand), or a restful, less public, dip in the saltwater pool.
Next time we hope to take advantage of all the trails on the property, most of which is a conservation area, as well as kayak and paddle-board rentals, and snorkeling. We saw quite a few people enjoying those activities. Since our time was short, we spent most of it simply loafing and idling on the beach, by the pool, and in the breezy loggias that have huge oversized day-beds suspended from the ceilings that can (and do) easily lull you into a nap with the sound of the waves washing through your mind.
At night we enjoyed an amazing lightning show and some rather exciting animal cries - though we always felt totally safe and secure - with security staff discretely available at all times.
All the staff were fantastically helpful and friendly, even taking care of our exit visa formalities for us.
The only thing that isn't comfortable about Las Catalinas, is the bumpy ride to get there, but that's what adventure is all about! Get a 4x4. Such a wonderful place to stay!
