Additional Location Information
Welcome to the Land of Enchantment! This private casita sits just off the scenic historic Turquoise Trail in the hills and horse country south of Santa Fe. We are about 20 minutes from the plaza, and 45 minutes from Alburquerque. We are super close to the Santa Fe Brewing Company, Cerrillos Hills State Park, the groovy art colony of Madrid, and the Eaves and Bonanza Creek movie ranches. Babaloo's Cucina Cubana and the San Marcos Cafe are walking distance dining options, and the Mine Shaft Tavern in Madrid has a lively community music scene.
Most people rent a car when they visit for access to our regional ski areas (Ski Santa Fe, Sandia and Taos), the Jemez mountains, Bandelier National Monument, and other local beauty. If you'd like to avoid Santa Fe parking (especially in the summer months), you can park and ride the Railrunner train (10 minutes up the road, 15 minutes to the Plaza).

DenverEnjoy Santa Fe without all the Santa Fe
Left on 03/22/2013 for a stay in November 2012
Rancho Gallina is a beautiful place in a beautiful spot and Mitch & Leslie are fabulous hosts. It's a quick hop into Santa Fe for all the fun, but doesn't come with all the silliness and aggravation of being in Santa Fe itself. And it's a lot easier to get onto the wonderful Turquoise Trail and other trips around Santa Fe.

Mitch and Leslie have created an amazing high desert retreat at Rancho Gallina. The casita is adorable, has great light, a fireplace, and a cool updated bathroom. The location is far enough to be away from the crush of tourism in Santa Fe but close enough to get there any time you want. Every time you drive into the Rancho, though, you won't want to leave! We were there in November, which is a great time in New Mexico, and can't wait to visit in other seasons as well.

The location of this eco-ranch is just great. You're close enough to the city, but far enough to make it a retreat. I enjoyed the nearby trails, the ghost town Madrid and the around the corner solar-powered Santa Fe Brewing Company! There are also a few hot springs that will help you relax. The best part of my stay was the food and being able to come back to the ranch after long days of exploration.

I've stayed at Rancho Gallina twice and both experiences have been excellent. If you are an outdoor enthusiast there are miles of pretty dirt roads to run and bike on right outside your casita door. There is also a beautiful state park about 10 minutes away by car if you like to day hike. If you prefer the indoors, the casitas are comfortable, quiet, and have great views. The proprietors are fun to talk to and and have loads of good information on the area. If you are are a foodie you will have lots to chat about. I can't wait until their kitchen is in full operation. Cappuccinos and cocktails await.

Denver, COClose to Santa Fe, yet a world away

Rancho Gallina is a beautiful and historic property lovingly restored for modern, environment-friendly comfort. The adobe-style buildings have plenty of character--exposed wood-beams, fireplaces, carved wooden doors. At the same time, the geothermal system keeps the rooms very comfortable. Nice linens too!
The setting is gorgeous. There are stunning views of the Ortiz Mountains and I can't wait to return in a warmer month to spend time in the courtyard.
The great thing is that it's a quiet rural retreat and yet just a quick drive to all of the great restaurants, museums, galleries and other attractions of Santa Fe. We also took the chance to explore Madrid, a cute artsy town just 10 minutes away. Definitely stop by the Mine Shaft Tavern in Madrid to soak up some local flavor if you have the chance.
Mitch is a wonderful host. When asked, he offered great suggestions for hikes and restaurants. This is clearly a labor of love for him and the lengths he will go to make his guests feel welcome is incredible. -

I stayed at Rancho Gallina with a good girlfriend in November. Fall in Santa Fe is beautiful and we took advantage of the cool weather by visiting 10,000 waves for a warm soak during the day and enjoying fires in the evening in the main house at Rancho Gallina. The house and property are romantic and I can't wait to come back again with my husband. Leslie and Mitch are very attentive and personable hosts. They know a lot about the area and have great food recommendations.

We heard coyotes in the night and the stars were as close as my nose. This is an awesome romantic getaway. It's rustic southwest, secluded and yet accessible. This is my first review ever, but I couldn't help myself. Don't book this place because it won't be available when we want to come back. Ask them to stock your kitchen with local food. We did and didn't want to eat out...just enjoyed the stars in the courtyard. Light a fire!

Mitch and Leslie not only made us feel completely at home, but made us feel like we were part of their family. Completely inviting and friendly, this place was a great jumping off point to explore Santa Fe's multitude of offerings, and our host's recommendations were spot on. Can't wait to go back.

Leslie & Mitch are the most wonderful and thoughtful hosts! Their eco-ranch is incredible beautiful and charming, with cozy bedroom and tons of land, perfect for taking evening walks to watch the breathtaking Santa Fe sunsets. Their attention to detail is what really sets the place apart, from the down pillows and comfy blankets throughout the house, to the amazing meals! Mitch is also a cocktail connoisseur, and both Mitch and Leslie are incredibly warm and intelligent, and fascinating to talk to about everything from bike riding, to raising chickens, to traveling, to politics... if you're brave :) I cannot think of a ranch I'd rather stay at!

I stayed here over President's Day weekend 2013. The new owners were just getting up and going and though I hadn't seen it before, had apparently done a bunch of remodeling, so everything had the true Southwestern feel but was in really nice condition, clean and well-kept. I really felt comfortable and at-home and woke up to beautiful views of the mountains surrounding Santa Fe, I didn't want to leave! About 20 minutes to town, so perfect for a get-away but you can still go in and enjoy the "city" life if you want to. Just minutes from a couple good hikes.
