Santa Marta is located in northern Colombia, by the Caribbean Sea and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains. It was one of the first cities founded in Colombia, and as such offers rich culture and history as well as white sand beaches, clear waters, and vibrant nightlife. In addition to the historic town center, other attractions include the Tayrona National Park (34km north of town), the most important ecological reserve in Colombia. It has camping zones, virgin beaches and tropical forest. The park also has its own archeological site Pueblito (also known as Cahirama), one of the 200 pre-Colombian cities discovered near Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
