Megalochori Lifestyle
Megalochori is a unique pretty village that still has genuine old world charm and an authentic village way of life. Narrow roads and footpaths, sprinkled with brilliant flowers, meander past whitewashed traditional houses and under lacey Venetian bell towers to meet at the lovely cobblestone village square. Here you can enjoy a quiet lunch at the local taverna, Raki, shaded by the vine covered pergola and listening to church bells toll. As the evening progresses, locals and visitors gather at the square for cocktails and Italian specialties at Il Gioiello, or live Greek music played by local musicians at Raki.
Formerly home to wealthy wine making families in the 17th century, Megalochori is filled with architectural treasures: renovated grandiose mansions and wine cellars, along with smaller traditional historical houses and the many churches that have served this small community over time.
Lush vineyards can be still seen in every direction beyond the village, home to three of Santoriniβs most historic and prominent working wineries today. They are happy to accept visitors for tastings and tours.
Megalochori is an easy central point for exploring Santorini. It is close to the islandβs most famous beaches, notably Red beach, Perivolos beach and Perissa beach. The old Venetian castle settlements at Emporio or Pyrgos are just minutes from the village. The beaches and world renowned archaeological site at Akrotiri are also just a short distance away.
After a day of exploring the beauty of Santorini, you will always be glad to return to peaceful Megalochori. Like a world removed, in Megalochori there is a quiet tranquility and a different pace: the pace of island village life.

Spending my vacation in this wonderful villa, has been the peak of my year. Its one of the most beautiful and special places I've ever stayed.
Everything in the villa worked fine, the bathroom is unique and especially the shower is something that one must try: While you have your shower you step on sea volcanic stones which massage your under feet.
I was very happy that I stayed there, and definitely I am looking forward to next year.

The Island is so beautiful and our stay was just magical because of this. I was somewhat disappointed in the Villa in which we stayed. It was beautiful and unique and the staff was very helpful, but there were two things that spoiled the week. First, there was a constant sewer smell that ruined the atmosphere of the place. Second, the windows to the Mansion next door opened into our courtyard. I was not happy with the lack of privacy. We will definitely visit Santorini again, but unfortunately we will not be staying in the Villas and Mansions of Santorini.

Left on 06/03/2010 for a stay in May 2010
My husband and I read the description of the villa on the Internet and felt that we had to stay there.
The yard of the Stone House villa is magical, especially at night when the lights are turned on. However, don't expect romantic moments : the adjoining villa has windows that open into our yard, which results in a lack of privacy and annoying if sharing with a young party crowd.
The inside of the villa is not quite as posh as we expected it to be. At night, the villa was cool and humid.
The bathroom needs improvements (poor lighting, small sink, loose faucet, old toilet, not enough hot water).
Young, inexperienced staff.
However, we loved the village and the people. Petros Nicolaidis, General Manager, went out of his way to please us. -

We had the best honeymoon possible! The Villa is so authentic and perfect for two people. We loved the private pool and terrace area. We truly enjoyed being part of an authentic Santorini neighborhood. The kitchen was stocked with basics so we could cook sleep in and cook our own breakfast. There was also a neighborhood market, bakery, and restaurants within walking distance. The staff was very helpful with anything we needed. We can't wait to go back!
