This peaceful family hideaway is tucked away in a secluded alcove along a winding footpath, lined with white walls and cascading fuschia flowers, leading from the Megalochori village square. Villa Io is just a two minute walk from the village square and a million miles from your cares.

A stroll through the picturesque village reveals a few famous restaurants nestled beneath pretty Venetian church bell towers.

This once upon a time village school house is loaded with character. Delightful old world antiques and artsy hand crafted light fixtures mingle with traditional vaulted ceilings and arched passageways in this uniquely reno...vated home. The airy white interiors are always cool and comfortable. This is stylish simplicity at its best.

The vibrant terrecota walls of the private cobbled courtyard are dazzling; the perfect complement for the sparkling blue pool. Soak in the sun at the pool or wait for the dramatic mood lighting of nightfall.

Villa Io once served as the village school for the local children of Megalochori.

The old school house has been sensitively renovated, preserving the original organic shape and proportions of the smooth walls, vaulted ceilings and arched openings of the existing building. These elements remind you of how the building was constructed, in the old Santorinian tradition of carving buildings into the soft pumice-stone earth of the village hills. The layout of the house takes its cues from traditional Santorini houses, echoing the shapes and colors of the island’s unique architecture.

Another notable feature of the Villa is its natural ambient interior temperature. The natural insulation of the earthen walls of the space regulated the temperature of the school house, keeping the interior warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Today, this natural insulation continues to be an advantage, maintaining a constantly cool interior environment in the villa, even on the hottest summer days.

Megalochori Lifestyle
Megalochori is a cozy village that still has genuine old world charm and an authentic village way of life. Narrow roads and footpaths, sprinkled with brilliant flowers, meander past whitewashed traditional houses and under lacey Venetian bell towers to meet at the lovely cobblestone village square. Here you can enjoy a quiet lunch at the local taverna, Raki, shaded by the vine covered pergola and listening to church bells toll. As the evening progresses, locals and visitors gather at the square for cocktails and Italian specialties at Il Gioiello, or live Greek music played by local musicians at Raki.
Formerly home to wealthy wine making families in the 17th century, Megalochori is filled with architectural treasures: renovated grandiose mansions and wine cellars, along with smaller traditional historical houses and the many churches that have served this small community over time.
Lush vineyards can be still seen in every direction beyond the village, home to three of Santorini’s most historic and prominent working wineries today. They are happy to accept visitors for tastings and tours.
Megalochori is an easy central point for exploring Santorini. It is close to the island’s most famous beaches, notably Red beach, Perivolos beach and Perissa beach. The old Venetian castle settlements at Emporio or Pyrgos are just minutes from the village. The beaches and world renowned archaeological site at Akrotiri are also just a short distance away.

  Simply a perfect villa for relaxing in private and beautiful atm

  My husband and I stayed at Villa Io and Mansion 1878 for our wedding with 9 friends. The Villa Io is an absolute stunning place, the colours of the old house and the antique design of the interior is simply perfect.
  
  I got dressed up on our wedding day at the Villa Io, while my husband got ready at the Mansion. It was great to prepare for our ceremony in such a wonderful environment!
  
  Four people were staying at the Villa Io and its size was perfect for this number. The villa was very clean and well maintained - inside and outside. The pool area was great and relaxing. The kitchen was well equipped, and each day, the staff came in order to clean the pool and the dishes (there is no dishwasher).
  
  The village Megalochori is very nice and idyllic! There are almost no tourists which is difficult to find on Santorini. The main square of the village is near (only a 2 minute walk by foot) and there is a great restaurant (Taverne Raki) with delicious Greek food! We had our wedding dinner there. For breakfast, there is a bakery nearby.
  
  The communication with Sharron, the manager of the villas, was great! We received answers to all our questions and we even skyped a couple of times. Also Raphaela was also a great help! And thanks to the whole Raki team for everything!
  
  The Villa Io thus was the perfect place to stay! Highly recommendable!

  We just loved Villa Io!

  This was the most fantastic chill out Villa. We all arrived needing to relax and ViIla Io ticked all our boxes, it's quiet, private, beautiful with everything you need on one of the most amazing islands I have ever seen.
  Sharon and her team took great care of us and the place was kept immaculate. The pool is the perfect size for splashing about in with a gin and tonic in one hand.
  We cannot overstate how much we loved Santorini, gorgeous, breathtaking, friendly.
  It was my first trip to Greece but it will not be my last.

  A beautiful place that takes luxury to a whole new level. Friendly family like service in fairytale suroundings and islandish smiles. Artistic design with taste and style. the best thing about it is the people that run the place... they are friendly, smiley and as helpfull as it comes... we will definitely be back as soon as possible.
