We went to Bali on our Honeymoon and stayed in Sanur at Villa Upama for four nights. It wasn't enough time and we never wanted to leave! The place is amazing! My husband surprised me and I had no idea where we were staying until I got there and I couldn't have been happier. Yanti met us at the door and gave us a tour and my breath was taken away! The pool is gorgeous, the bedrooms are gorgeous, the bathrooms are amazing! I want to live there :) The theatre room has hundreds of movies- we stayed up and watched a movie in there one of the nights.
Location is great- it is about a 4 minute walk to the beach. If you go up the street for a few minutes (less than 5) you are in the town and close to massage places/shopping/restaurants. It's very close to everything but still very quiet within the actual walls of the villa.
All of the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. They truly made Bali even more wonderful. Wayan (the chef) is fabulous- everything we ate was delicious. We ended up eating the majority of our meals at the villa rather than in town just b/c noone could beat his food. He makes most everything- lots of variety. Yanti helped us out so much- she is the nicest person and made us feel so comfortable. There are about 9 staff members on hand over all and each one of them was wonderful. I couldn't say enough about how nice they all were.
If you stay in Sanur, you really can't beat staying at Upama! The place was so big that I want to go back with family or friends next time! Kids would love the pool! -

Paradiesisch schön aber mit Nachteilen

Wir sind eine internationale Familie mit 3 Kindern (Jugendliche zwischen 12 und 17 Jahren) und haben sehr hohe Erwartungen bei unseren aufenthalten in Feriendomizilen. Wir haben die Villa Upama im august 2012 für 11 Tage gemietet und waren begeistert, bis auf eine (große) Sache.
Vorteile:
Der Villa war wahnsinnig schön mit riesengroßen, geschmackvollen Zimmern und einem Garten und Pool wie im Paradies. Wunderschöne Sitzecken überall, tropische Kletterpflanzen die von der Hauswand runter hängen, kleine Wasserspielchen am Haus und im Pool—es gab so viele Details die diese Villa begehrenswert machten. In Sanur ist es, wie wahrscheinlich überall in Süd-Bali: unzählig viele Mopeds und Menschen an Straßen, die von Verkaufsständen gesäumt sind. Und die Villa Upama war wie eine Oase der Ruhe mitten drin. Das Haus liegt in der 2.Reihe; von der Straße hörte man fast gar nichts. Direkt vor dem Haus an der Straße war eine große Baustelle wo sich offenbar eine weitere Villa im Bau befindet. In der Zeit in der wir vor Ort waren, fanden aber keine Bauarbeiten statt. Kurzum: die Villa Upama ist für Entspannungs- und Erholungsuchende praktisch wie gemacht. Eine immer besetzte kleine Polizeistation an der Straße direkt gegenüber der Villa gibt einem ein gutes Gefühl der Sicherheit und mit dem Wachmann, der nachts im Haus war, haben wir uns jederzeit sicher gefühlt.
Die ausstattung des Hauses war ebenfalls auf höchstem Niveau. Der Servicepersonal war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommen und versuchte trotz mancher Verständigungsprobleme (die meisten sprachen etwas englisch) Wünsche zu erfüllen oder vorherzusehen. Die Managerin kam oft ins Haus oder war auf anruf sehr rasch verfügbar. Sie hat für uns die autos mit Fahrer organisiert oder Golfabschlagzeiten gebucht (der Nirwana Golfplatz war übrigens spektakulär). Die Klimaanlage im Haus war in allen Zimmern individuell regelbar und besonders abends und nachts ein Genuss. Es gab einen iMac zur freien Nutzung und das ganze Haus war mit Wlan ausgestattet. Ebenso gehörte ein Kinoraum mit unzähligen aktuellen Film-Dvds zur ausstattung. Für Fans von Spielkonsolen gab es sowohl eine Nintendo Wii als auch eine Microsoft Xbox mit vielen Spielprogrammen. Für die Freunde der klassischen Unterhaltung gab es eine Bibliothek mit vielen tollen Büchern, zum Beispiel über architektur und Design. Ebenso gut ausgestattet waren Bar und Weinkeller, die wir allerdings wenig genutzt haben. Der Kühlschrank war immer gut mit Getränke gefüllt (inkl. sind die Getränke beim Frühstück und Tee, sonst wird alles am Ende der aufenthalt abgerechnet) und weil der Koch den ganzen Tag und abend da war, konnten wir -wie beim Roomservice- immer spontan etwas zu essen bestellen wenn es jemandem danach war. Wir haben auch sehr oft im Haus zu abend gegessen—das Essen war absolut köstlich, vor allem das indonesisches/balinesisches Essen. Milchprodukte sind im Vergleich zu deutschen Produkten gewöhnungsbedürftig; das hat aber nichts mit der Villa oder dem Service zu tun. Das kann man aber für ein paar Wochen leicht verkraften.
Nachteile:
Wir haben sie nach ein paar Tage erst nur im Garten gesehen—die Ratten. Die Kinder fanden sie am anfang ziemlich niedlich und lustig. Dann kamen sie allerdings mehr und mehr zu Erscheinung. Wir sind nachts zwei Mal wachgeworden durch lautes Kratzen und Nagen—die Viecher waren in die Lüftungsschächten im Haus und sind überall durchgerannt. Wir haben das Sicherheitspersonal um 2 Uhr morgens gerufen (überall im Haus gab es Knöpfe um den Butler zu rufen) und der Wachmann kam und hat nach den Ratten mit einer Taschenlampe geschaut, aber sie waren natürlich wieder weg. Die waren im Gartenhaus in der Decke und natürlich auch im Bad, weil es zum Teil offen zum Himmel war. Das Bad hatte einen kleinen Teich drin und sah exotisch und wunderschön aus, aber nachdem unsere Tochter morgens eine Ratte sitzend an der Badewanne fand, hatten die Kinder angst das Bad zu betreten. Die Seifenstücke waren im Bad angeknabbert und eine Seife hat irgendwann dann komplett gefehlt. Die Kinder konnten sich nach Einbruch der Dunkelheit sowieso in dem Bad nicht mehr duschen, weil die Moskitos in Mengen kamen. Aber das hat man in den Tropen nun mal, dass besonders abends die Luft voll mit Schnaken ist. Die Hinterlassenschaften von den Ratten haben wir am Pool auch gefunden. Am letzten Tag hatten wir so um die zehn Ratten tagsüber gesehen und das war auch nach aussage von Einheimischen nicht normal. Wir führen das Überhandnehmen dieser Nager auf die angrenzende Baustelle und auf die nach Hindu-Glauben dreimal täglich verteilten Opfergaben (die beinhalten natürlich Essen) zurück. Freunde von uns, die ein Jahr vorher eine andere Villa in Sanur gemietet hatten, haben uns versichert, dass sie kein Problem mit Ratten am oder im Haus hatten. Wir haben uns in den letzten drei Tagen unseres aufenthalts bei dem Eigentümer und der Managerin über die Beeinträchtigung unseres Urlaubs beschwert und es wurden dann Fallen aufgestellt. Wir hatten allerdings das Gefühl, dass diese Problematik sowohl dem Personal als auch den Eignern der Villa durchaus bekannt war. Bei einem so unglaublich schönen anwesen (Haus und Garten) und bei dem Preis ist es sehr schade dass unsere Zeit in Bali am Ende doch ziemlich nachhaltig beeinträchtigt wurde.
Die andere Sachen waren eher Kleinigkeiten—das Haus hat einen Bus-system was alle Elektronik im Haus zentral kontrollieren soll. Solche komplizierte Systeme sind anfällig für Störungen, und so war das auch in der Villa. Es gab ab den 3.Tag keine Musik mehr weil das Stereosystem nicht mehr funktioniert hat (oder war es wieder die Ratten?) und keiner konnte das System wirklich erklären. Wir sind eine durchaus Technik-affine Familie und so haben wir uns die wesentlichen Dinge im Umgang mit der Technik selbst erarbeitet. Wenn sich da jemand weniger mit Computern und Elektronik auskennt, der kann schon mal kapitulieren. Der Wlan hatte vor allem abends seine aussetzer (kann sein, dass das mit dem Betreiber zu tun hatte) und einige der DVD (Spiele und Filme) waren etwas runtergekommen. An einigen Tagen hätte das Putzen des Hauses etwas gründlicher sein können. Was erwähnt werden sollte ist, dass die Villa Upama in der abflugschneise des Flughafens von Denpasar liegt. Hängt sicher von der Windrichtung ab aber wir hatten am Tag so um die 15 Flieger, die so in 1,5 bis 2 km Höhe über das Haus abflogen. Hat uns nicht viel ausgemacht aber wenn jemand allergisch gegen Fluglärm ist kann das schon nerven.
Fazit:
Wenn das Rattenproblem unter Kontrolle gebracht wird und der Baustelle vorne weiterhin keine Probleme mit sich bringt, ist der Villa unbedingt zu empfehlen. Wir haben einige Ferienvillen gemietet und kennen viele, tolle Hotels auf praktisch allen Kontinenten, aber die Schönheit der Villa Upama ist kaum zu überbieten. Wenn das Rattenproblem im Griff ist, würden wir ohne zu zögern sofort wieder hinfahren. -

Villa Upama is first class accomadation with first class staff. The decor and ambience fuses the modern with the traditional to create a perfect Balinese holiday villa. Every aspect from lighting, bathing, relaxing and enetertaining has been thought through extensivly and the result is flawless brilliance. It is incredibly rare to find a villa that caters to the needs of both grown-ups and children without compromising on style and elegance but Rhodes has conjured his magic and Upama does all this and more. A highly recommended stay for anyone wanting a superb, relaxing, pamapering holiday in Bali. Wonderful.

I have recently returned from a trip to Bali. I stayed at The Villa Upuma. It was an absolutely wonderful holiday. the villa was particularly luxurious and well serviced. The staff were charming, helpful and always willing to provide anything one could wish for. The peace of the villa and it's freshwater pool felt just like paradise. There is every luxury and comfort at the villa. It is indeed an oasis for anyone who wants to explore the beauty of Bali. I thoroughly recommend it.

We have just returned from Villa Upama in Sanur, Bali. The flight from London was long and naturally tiring, however this was strongly mitigated by the fact that the Villa representative met us at the airport and the usual delays and formalities of immigration and customs were speeded through. The Villa is about 20 minutes drive from the airport, so there was no long and frustrating journey by car to the location. We were astounded at the Villa. The whole contingent of the staff (10 in number; including a manager, chef, gardeners, maids, both chamber and laundry, and security) all turned out to greet us and our luggage was spirited away to our suites
. We then got our first glimpse of the Villa. All we could say was "wow"! The building, which is ultra modern, but built in total sympathy with Balinese architecture, is astounding. It is extreemly spacious, arranged on two floors, but with enormous curved glass floor to ceiling doors and windows which all look out onto the stunning gardens, filled with colourful trees and plants and the fully balanced, chlorine and chemical free, fresh water swimming pool, which sparkles in the sunlight. In the garden there are sculptures, which have splashing fountains, so that the sound of running water is always gently and soothingly in the background. The accomodation is completely airconditoned, spotlessly clean, with polished wood and stone floors.
The gound floor provides a dining room (which could seat up to 12 people on a beautiful circular table), lounge to seat some ten poeple on upholstered sofas, informal day lounge with upholstered armchairs and sofas, (all opening onto the gardens and pool), study, bar, entertainment/television suite, and "cigar divan". There is a day kitchen, but the staff quarters and the real work areas of cooking, stores and laundry are hidden away. There is also a two car garage and lots of bikes.
Upstairs in the main villa are two full doulbe suites, each with it's own dressing rooms, showers and baths. The bathrooms are glass walled, which initially we found disconcerting, until we realised that it was impossible to be overlooked, so that bathing was like being outside! One of the suites has, in addtion to twin beds, two pullout beds, so that the main villa would sleep six adults in total comfort.
Hidden away, on the other side of the pool and gardens, is a self contained bedroom suite, which was fantastic. Again it has its own seating area, dressing rooms and bath and shower room. However the bathroom is actually in the open air, totally private but surrounded by plants and trees.
Efficient wi-fi opreates throught the villa and every bedroon suite has its own televsion which is linked to the main computer server, so that films, music and world wide programs are viewable at any time of day or night.
Enough about the accomodation. The staff. The chef can cook any dish that a guest can ask for. The staff come on at 6.30 in the morning and leave at 10 at night, after which your own security guard comes on. The service would put a super luxury hotel to shame. Rooms are cleaned, bedding changed and laundry disappears to be returned that evening--all in house. A large barbecue, in the gardens, is available for either the guests to do their own thing on, or the chef is always there is do it for you, if you tell him what you want.
We found that the staff would order in any supplies we wanted or cook any dish that we decided that we wished for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner. Finally there is a massage suite. A masseur (costing only £15-£20 for an hour and a half massage) will come in at a few hours notice.
The villa is a three minute walk straight down to Sanur beach, which is golden sand and lined with cafes and shops. Main shopping is a short drive away, however the local shops can generally provide day to day requirements. -

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a week. The villa is fabulous. Beautifully designed. The rooms are and the bathrooms unbelievable. The swimming pool is a must. It’s completely naturally filtered, no chemicals. I don’t know how they do it but wow!! What a swimming experience. I don’t think I can swim in a chlorine pool again. Worth the stay just for this experience. I hardly left the pool.
You can eat in the villa which we did most of the time. We left the dirty plates and glasses and they were gone in an instant. Never saw the staff really except for when we wanted. They have a neat staff call system that means that they are there when you want them and disappear when you don’t. The staff were very friendly and efficient sometimes too efficient ... seriously superb service hard to fault them it’s almost weird how they know where you are doing something and what you might need!!
There is a bar that we made full use of never mind the wine cellar which has a collection most 5 star hotels would be proud of.
Bali is wonderful. The villa is a few hundred metres from the wonderful Sanur beach. We had an awesome time. Easy walk to the restaurants, watching the sunset. Truly special. Thanks to all involved. A truly beautiful holiday experience. -

I spent 2 weeks at the Villa Upama with my family. The villa itself was amazing, the website photos do not do it justice,the rooms, pool (which doesn't use chemicals)and garden areas are huge. I especially liked the roof gardens which caught all the warm breezes.
We were looked after by Dewa who was gentle, kind and very capable,an excellent cook, his breakfasts were delicious and we were very sad to leave him.
The Villa was private and extremely quiet,once we closed the villa doors we were in our own tranquil oasis.It was a 5 minute walk to the beach so we enjoyed our morning walks often stopping for drinks along the beach and on occasions biked the length of the beach promenade with the sea breeze cooling us.
There were some fantastic restaurants both on the beach and in the town which was also a 5 minute walk away.
Our time at Villa Upama was idyllic made especially memorable by Dewa and the people who looked after us.
