Description from the owner

Lovingly restored, La Ferme de La Tour is an ensemble of beautiful old farm buildings dating back to the 16th century. Overlooking 2 1/2 acres of parkland are four impeccably presented cottages / barn conversions, the owners accommodation and a large swimming pool.

High on a hill, at the top of a valley, we are surrounded by magnificent countryside, a network of pretty footpaths and a neighbouring historical château. The breathtaking valley views, gardens and huge skies will overwhelm you with a feeling of peace and tranquillity disturbed only by the abundance of wildlife and the occasional distant tractor.

    Additional Location Information

Situated within the hamlet of La Tour we are two minutes from the pretty village of Sainte Nathalene with a bar, hotel, restaurants and small shop. Just 7 miles from the historical town of Sarlat-la-Caneda with more listed buildings than any other town in Europe and a twice weekly market, it is perfectly placed for access to all of the most beautiful sites in Dordogne and Lot.

There are numerous chateaux to visit, caves to explore and pretty market towns to meander through. There is also a wide range of outdoor activities for all ages close by.

The Perigord region is famous for it's quality food and wine (of which Sarlat with an array of street entertainment is arguably the capital) available at very affordable rates. For the even more serious wine lover then Bergerac and it's fine wine region is only an hour away.
For those that want to sample the local wine then transport can be arranged locally.

An all round value for money residence.

Left on 05/29/2013 for a stay in May 2013

An all round excellent property. Good directions given prior to departure make it easy to find, although we have been before. We think the home is very comfortable with a vast amount of information provided regarding this area of the Dordogne, so peaceful and quiet, but with the added bonus of a swimming pool. The weather was a bit "iffy", but this particular property has an outdoor area under cover, which is ideal for bbqs and eating outside, even in the rain!! The owners are always on hand for any help, but at the same time are not intrusive in any way. An excellent holiday property.

      Fabulous Place. Highly, highly recommended.

Absolutely stunning. I can't recommend this place enough. I was content to simply sit on the couch, look out the french doors and just gaze on the beauty that was outside the doors. Well situated to see the Dordogne area. Very private. Quiet. Very comfortable. Well appointed. I slept better at the Gite than I have in years! Excellent hosts that are super easy to work with and very responsive. I would definitely stay here again.

La Petite Grange is a wonderful place to stay in a little piece

Left on 10/12/2012 for a stay in September 2012

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at La Petite Grange. Our accommodation was great - very comfortable and the unit was very well set up. The location was great, although you do need a car as La Petite Grange is situated in a beautiful valley a fair distance from shops etc. This is part of its charm and the peace and serenity at the end of the day's exploring enjoying a glass of French wine while sitting under the walnut tree enjoying the view is something we will never forget. We hope to return in the near future!!

We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay in La Petite Grange in May 2012. We were there for 9 nights in total, with our young son (18 months). The property was really nicely converted and had all the facilities we required. Chris and Kate ensured we had everything needed for our son too - high chair, baby bath, cot, etc.

The location was beautiful - fantastic views, really peaceful and yet close enough to local villages and towns to not feel too remote. We found plenty to do in the local vicinity.

Chris and Kate struck just the right balance of being available for any queries but not being intrusive - perfect hosts!

Overall we had a really fantastic stay and would definitely recommend the property.

We had a wonderful stay at La Petite Grange

Left on 04/19/2012 for a stay in April 2012

We had a wonderful week at La Petite Grange and in the Dordogne Valley. Chris and Kate Waters have done everything possible to make their guests feel welcome and comfortable. We have stayed in many vacation apartments over the years, but I cannot remember one that was better equipped than La Petite Grange. The two bedroom apartment is situated in an ancient farmhouse that has been thoroughly renovated and brought to modern standards (without, however, losing any of the charm of a centuries-old farmhouse). La Petite Grange has a pleasant terrace which has a beautiful view and includes a charcoal grill. There is also a large swimming pool which would be very nice in warmer weather. The apartment is equipped with satellite television with more English-language channels than anyone would ever need. Location-wise, La Petite Grange is very well situated for day trips to Sarlat, Domme, La Roque Gageac, Beynac, Castlenaud, Marqueyssac Gardens, and many more attractions of the Dordogne Valley. Sarlat, only about 8 kms away, is a beautiful medieval town but also has several conveniently-located supermarkets on the outskirts. Chris and Kate have done an excellent job of compiling helpful information about restaurants and shopping. I should also add that Chris was a pleasure to deal with when we made our reservation, responding promptly and clearly to all of our questions.

Lovely, well equipped character cottage which was spotlessly clean and well maintained. Cottage has a good sized shaded terrace area with seating and barbeque, and views over the valley. There is also a shared, salt water swimming pool with sun loungers which was great to relax around, again with amazing views over the valley.

The property is set in a peaceful country valley, yet it was no more than 40 minutes drive to any of the numerous attractions in the area and an easy 10 minute drive to Sarlat. Of particular mention are the Sarlat markets (Wed & Sat), Lacave, and the beautiful gardens of Marqueyassac whose terrace restaurant have incredible views over the region.

Would not hesitate to stay here gain or recommend this property to others.

      Idyllic

Left on 12/08/2011 for a stay in November 2011

The gite at La Ferme de la Tour met all our expectations having read numerous reviews for this and other locations. The setting is very peaceful and sits high above the valley with spectacular views yet all the attractions of the Dordogne were in easy reach (although you do have to travel by car for any provisions). Everything we required was already available in the gite and Chris and Kate were very helpful in providing info regarding both the property and the surrounding area. The properties are set in a "C" shape around a large central terrace which is carefully split to give the gites their own privacy, shade or shelter. We were very lucky with the weather in November allowing us to take numerous walks directly from the gite and further afield, although returning was strenous if coming back from Sainte Nathalene in the valley,(ask Chris for the best routes). Eating out was slightly more expensive than we had hoped but again asking for recommendations meant we were able to find good food at local restaurants thus avoiding the inevitable tourist traps.

      Not quite what we expected...

Left on 12/02/2011 for a stay in November 2011

Whilst we did enjoy our stay in the area, when we first arrived we felt misled by the overuse of the term 'cottage' in the adverstising. Both the wording and the pictures indicated to us that we were staying in a separate cottage/building on the the farm property. This was not the case. The end of the main farmhouse has actually been converted into 3 apartment style accomodations. They were all in a small area with adjoining terraces.
Luckily, as it was the off season, the apartment directly in front of us was vacant and the one beside us had a longer term solo tenant who we didn't see often.so it wasn't really a problem, however we did feel the advertising was misleading. I mentioned this to the owner so I hope this is rectified.
Having said that, we enjoyed the rural location, and it was about a 15 minute drive into Sarlat, and easily accessible to all the main sites of the region.

We stayed for two weeks in September 2010. The location in the country side was fantastic. The views, walking trails and the country atmosphere were outstanding.
Chris and Kate were extremely helpful and welcoming...nothing was too much trouble for them.
